Neuroprotective Effect of Visnagin on Kainic Acid-induced Neuronal Cell Death in the Mice Hippocampus
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages

now. Thus, we investigated whether visnagin has a neuroprotective effect against kainic acid (KA)-induced neuronal cell death. In the cresyl violet staining, pre-treatment or post-treatment visnagin (100 mg/kg, p.o. or i.p.) showed a neuroprotective effect on KA (0.1Ռg) toxicity. KA-induced gliosis and proinflammatory marker (IL-1Ղ, TNF-Ձ, IL-6, and COX-2) inductions were also suppressed by visnagin administration. These results suggest that visnagin has a neuroprotective effec... -
The Inhibitory Effect of Quercetin-3-O-β-D-Glucuronopyranoside on Gastritis and Reflux Esophagitis in Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.4 5 295-300 (6 pages)
It was evaluated the inhibitory action of quercetin-3-O-Ղ-D-glucuronopyranoside (QGC) on reflux esophagitis and gastritis in rats. QGC was isolated from the herba of Rumex Aquaticus. Reflux esophagitis or gastritis was induced surgically or by administering indomethacin, respectively. Oral QGC decreased ulcer index, injury area, gastric volume, and acid output and increased gastric pH as compared with quercetin. Furthermore, QGC significantly decreased gastric lesion sizes induced by... -
The Effect of Caffeic Acid on Wound Healing in Skin-incised Mice

significantly stimulated collagen-like polymer synthesis in NIH 3T3 fibroblast cells, while inhibited both silica-induced reactive oxygen species generation and melittin-induced arachidonic acid release and PGE2 production in Raw 264.7 cells, and histamine release in RBL 2H3 cells stimulated by melittin or arachidonic acid. Therefore, caffeic acid appears to have a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect in cell culture system, which may be related to wound healing in skin-incised mice. -
Effect of Extracts from Safflower Seeds on Osteoblastic Differentiation and Intracellular Free Calcium Concentration in MC3T3-E1 Cells
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.1 8 55-62 (8 pages)
Very little research has been carried out on safflower seed for the prevention and treatment of the bone deficiency diseases, including osteoporosis, which are supported by scientific evidences. In the present study, 3μl of 0.1% dried crude extract or 2μl of 0.1% dried aqueous fraction were shown to significantly accelerate the rate of differentiation of osteoblast. Also, the crude extract and aqueous fraction increased the [Ca2]i of the cultured osteoblast cells: 3μl of 0.1% dried... -
Effect of Amrinone, a Selective Inhibitor of Phosphodiesterase III, on PMNs-induced
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2004, Vol.8 No.1 7 43-50 (8 pages)
Ischemia followed by reperfusion in the presence of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) results in a marked cardiac contractile dysfunction. Amrinone, a specific inhibitor of phosphodiesterase 3, has an antioxidant activity against PMNs. Therefore, we hypothesized that amrinone could attenuate PMNs-induced cardiac dysfunction by suppression of reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced fby PMNs. In the present study, we examined the effects of amrinone on isolated ischemic (20 min) and reperfused... -
Inhibitory Effect of Esculetin on the Inducuble Nitric Oxide Synthase Expression in TNF-stimulated 3T3-L1 Adipocytes
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages

While nitric oxide (NO) produced by inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) is beneficial for host survival, it is also detrimental to the host. Thus, regulation of iNOS gene expression may be an effective therapeutic strategy for the prevention of unwanted reactions at various pathologic conditions. During the screening process for the possible iNOS regulators, we observed that esculetin is a potent inhibitor of cytokine-induced iNOS expression. The treatment of 3T3-L1 adipocytes with the tumor... -
COX-2 inhibitory effect of luteolin through the regulation of NR-κB and ERK in phorbol ester activated human lung epithelial cells

42 467-474 (8 pages)
The inhibitory effect of luteolin on cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 expression was investigated in 12-O-tetradecanoyl phorbol-13-acetate (TPA), a prototype tumor promoter, activated human lung epithelial A549 cells. Luteolin mitigated TPA-stimulated COX-2 expression in a dose-dependent manner without any cytotoxicity. Since nuclear factor (NF)-κB plays a critical role in inflammatory casdades, activated status of NF-κB was estimated through the phosphorylation of p65, one subunit of NF-κB by western... -

with BG produced improvement in the escape latency to find the platform. Further, the BG groups showed a reduced loss of cholinergic immunoreactivity and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate-diaphorase (NADPH-d)-positive neurons in the hippocampus compared to that of the ISC group. These results demonstrated that BG has a protective effect against ischemia-induced neuronal and cognitive impairment. Our results suggest that BG might be useful for the treatment of vascular dementia.
