Evaluation of infectivity and transmission of different Asian foot-and-mouth disease viruses in swine
Juan M. Pacheco, P. W. Mason 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 2호 7 133-142 (10 pages)
Most isolates of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) display a broad host range. Since the late 1990s, the genetic lineage of PanAsia topotype FMDV serotype O has caused epidemics in the Far East, Africa, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, and numerous other countries throughout Europe and Asia. In contrast, there are several FMDV isolates that exhibit a more restricted host range. A Cathay topotype isolate of FMDV serotype O from the 1997 epizootic in Taiwan (O/TAW/97) demonstrated... -
Involvement of the Fas and Fas ligand in testicular germ cell apoptosis by zearalenone in rat

gradually until 12 h and then gradually decreasing. Western blot analysis revealed an increase in Fas and Fas ligand (Fas-L) protein levels in the ZEA- treated rats. However, the estrogen receptor (ER)a expression was not changed during the study. Collectively, our data suggest that acute exposure of ZEA induces apoptosis in germ cells of male rats and that this toxicity of ZEA is partially mediated through modulation of Fas and Fas-L systems, though ERa may not play a significant role. -
Ethanol extract of Angelica gigas inhibits croton oil-induced inflammation by suppressing the cyclooxygenase-prostaglandin pathway
Sunhee Shin, Seong Soo Joo, Dongsun Park, Jeong Hee Jeon, Tae Kyun Kim, Jeong Seon Kim, Sung Kyeong Park, Bang Yeon Hwang, *, Yun 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 1호 7 43-50 (8 pages)
The anti-inflammatory effects of an ethanol extract of Angelica gigas (EAG) were investigated in vitro and in vivo using croton oil-induced inflammation models. Croton oil (20 μg/mL) up-regulated mRNA expression of cyclooxygenase (COX)-I and COX-II in the macrophage cell line, RAW 264.7, resulting in the release of high concentrations of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). EAG (1∼10 μg/mL) markedly suppressed croton oil-induced COX-II mRNA expression and PGE2 production. Application of croton oil (5% in... -

mg/kg body weight p.o), while animals in group-II received similar dose of norfloxacin after pre-treatment with curcumin (60 mg/kg body weight per day, 3 days, p.o). Blood samples were drawn from the marginal ear vein into heparin-coated vials at 0 (zero time), 5, 10, 15, 30 min and 1, 2, 4, 6, 12 and 24 h post-treatment. Plasma norfloxacin concentrations were determined by high performance liquid chromatography. The plasma concentration-time profile of norfloxacin was adequately described by a... -
Functional recovery and neural differentiation after transplantation of allogenic adipose-derived stem cells in a canine model of acute spinal cord injury
Hak-Hyun Ryu, Ji-Hey Lim, Ye-Eun Byeon, Jeong-Ran Park, Min-Soo Seo, Young-Won Lee, Wan Hee Kim, Kyung-Sun Kang*, Oh-Kyeong Kweo 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 12 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 4호 1 273-284 (12 pages)
In this study, we evaluated if the implantation of allogenic adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) improved neurological function in a canine spinal cord injury model. Eleven adult dogs were assigned to three groups according to treatment after spinal cord injury by epidural balloon compression: C group (no ASCs treatment as control), V group (vehicle treatment with PBS), and ASC group (ASCs treatment). ASCs or vehicle were injected directly into the injured site 1 week after spinal cord injury.... -
Induction of oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation in rats chronically exposed to cypermethrin through dermal application

after 30 days of exposure. However, the superoxide dismutase activity declined significantly after 60 days of exposure. The activity of glutathione peroxidase and blood glutathione levels declined significantly (p < 0.05) after 30 days of cypermethrin dermal application. However, the activity of glutathione S-transferase increased significantly (p < 0.05) in all groups after 60 days of dermal exposure. Significant increase in lipid peroxidation was observed from 30 days onwards and reached a... -

Korakot Nganvongpanit*, Peraphan Pothacharoen, Niyada Suwankong, Siriwan Ong-Chai, Prachya Kongtawelert 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 3호 10 239-247 (9 pages)
Twenty-five dogs were included in a randomized, double- blind trial to assess the efficacy of doxycycline (DOX) orally administered twice a day at 4 mg/kg/day (n = 12) for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the hip. Chondroitin sulfate (CS; 525 mg/day) was used as a positive control (n = 13). Dogs were re-examined monthly for 6 months after initiation of treatment. The assessment protocol included clinical score, radiographic findings and serum osteoarthritis biomarkers. Dogs treated with DOX... -
Efficacy of strain RB51 vaccine in protecting infection and vertical transmission against Brucella abortus in Sprague-Dawley rats
Md. Ariful Islam, Mst. Minara Khatun, Byeong-Kirl Baek*, Sung-Il Lee 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 3호 6 211-218 (8 pages)
Immunizing animals in the wild against Brucella (B.) abortus is essential to control bovine brucellosis because cattle can get the disease through close contact with infected wildlife. The aim of this experiment was to evaluate the effectiveness of the B. abortus strain RB51 vaccine in protecting infection as well as vertical transmission in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats against B. abortus biotype 1. Virgin female SD rats (n = 48) two months of age were divided into two groups: one group (n = 24)... -
Effects of L-NAME, a non-specific nitric oxide synthase inhibitor, on AlCl3-induced toxicity in the rat forebrain cortex

in the forebrain cortex, suggesting that AlCl3 exposure promoted oxidative stress in this brain structure. The biochemical changes observed in neuronal tissues showed that aluminium acted as a pro-oxidant. However, the non- specific nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor, L-NAME, exerted anti-oxidant actions in AlCl3-treated animals. These results revealed that NO-mediated neurotoxicity due to intrahippocampal AlCl3 injection spread temporally and spatially to the forebrain cortex, and suggested... -

Seung-Hyeok Seok, Min-Won Baek, Hui-Young Lee, Dong-Jae Kim, Yi-Rang Na, Kyoung-Jin Noh, Sung-Hoon Park, Hyun-Kyoung Lee, Byoung 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2008, 제 9권 제 4호 3 351-358 (8 pages)
Although rodents have previously been used in ecotoxicological studies, they are expensive, time-consuming, and are limited by strict legal restrictions. The present study used a zebrafish (Danio rerio) model and generated data that was useful for extrapolating toxicant effects in this system to that of humans. Here we treated embryos of the naive-type as well as a transiently transfected zebrafish liver cell line carrying a plasmid (phAhRE- EGFP), for comparing toxicity levels with the...
