What Does an Engaged Preschool Classroom Look Like? Teachers’ Conceptions of Student Engagement- Voices from Malaysia
Armeetaa Kaur Mallanhanse, Amrita Kaur, Rosna Awang Hashim, Mohammad Noman 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 24 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2023, Vol.17 No.1 4 67-90 (24 pages)
School engagement is at the heart of academic success both for teachers and students at all levels of education. Conceptualizing and examining preschool students' engagement is a complex task, as the engagement of preschool students may vary based on the school and cultural context. Using an exploratory qualitative research design, the current study investigates the conception of preschool students’ engagement in the Malaysian context. Seven preschool teachers with significant teaching... -
Preschool Parents’ Ratings of Parent-teacher Relationships. A look at the Impact of Family Demographics
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 27 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2022, Vol.16 No.2 12 247-273 (27 pages)
Relationships between families and teachers are important quality indicators of an effective early childhood program and a child’s development indicators. Assessment of these relationships provides program administrators and policy makers insights into the effectiveness of their programs in impacting children’s and family outcomes. In this study, using the newly developed FPTRQ Measure, parents’ perceptions of parent-teacher relationships in preschool programs were assessed. The effects of... -
Influence of Play-based Learning in Early Childhood Education (ECE) in Bangladesh: Lessons from Japan
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 27 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2022, Vol.16 No.2 10 203-229 (27 pages)
Universally, Early Childhood Education (ECE) received considerable attention among the stakeholders, and multiple international studies have emphasized the critical nature of the high-quality ECE facilities that integrate learning and play. Several studies have demonstrated the positive influence of decent learning environments on prospects and the comprehensive development of children. This research focuses on play-based learning through gamification to characterize the excellent ECE... -
A Mixed-methods Study on Early Childhood Educators’ Aesthetic Literacy and Aesthetic Teaching Practices
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 23 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2022, Vol.16 No.2 2 25-47 (23 pages)
As aesthetic education has become an important component of school curricula in Taiwan, aesthetic education for children is valued in early schooling. This study explores early childhood educators’ aesthetic literacy and aesthetic teaching practices in north Taiwan. The researcher conducted a mixed-methods study, including a survey and interviews, with 490 early childhood educators participating in the survey, 10 of whom participated in the interviews. The findings indicate that: (1) the early... -
Multiple Representations in Preschool Numeracy: Teaching a Lesson on More-or-Less
Alfredo Bautista, Malikka Habib, Raymond Ong, Anthony Eng, Rebecca Bull 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 28 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2019, Vol.13 No.2 6 95-122 (28 pages)
Mathematics education researchers and curriculum designers have emphasized the importance of representations in fostering students’ mathematical learning. However, most classroom-based studies on representations have focused on primary and secondary levels, and there is limited literature on how preschool teachers integrate representations in regular classroom activities. This qualitative study illustrates specific ways in which preschool educators may utilize multiple representations to teach... -
The Story of Minh: The Lifeworld of a Marriage-Labor Immigrant Mother
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 26 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2016, Vol.10 No.3 1 1-26 (26 pages)
In this paper, I investigate how Minh, as an immigrant mother, accepts, resists, and transforms available Korean cultural discourses about mothering. With the goal of exploring and understanding the discourses about mothering that pertain to immigrant families in Korea, I examine how local, national, and international histories of race, gender, class, citizenship, nationality, and culture shape the discourses of mothering in Korea. Through this process, the paper addresses the intersection... -
Creating Collective Scientific Consciousness: A Cultural-Historical Study of Early Learning about Earth and Space in the Context of Family Imaginary Play
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 32 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2016, Vol.10 No.2 6 93-124 (32 pages)
Based on a cultural-historical perspective, where play is conceptualized as the creation of an imaginary situation, this study seeks to examine how scientific learning is fostered through collectively created imaginary situations during everyday family practices. This study forms part of a broader study, and in this paper the focus is on a three-year-old child and his family from Mainland China. A theoretical discussion of data collected reveals that a collectively created imaginary situation... -
The role of units in the concept of length for four- to six-year-old children
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 17 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2015, Vol.9 No.3 5 67-83 (17 pages)
The understanding of the unit is a key point in the development of the concept of length. The understanding of unit is necessary for measuring as well as for comparing indirectly by using unit iteration. This article describes a study that investigated the use of units by children when they were comparing lines indirectly. The correlations between different aspects of the use of units are examined: the understanding of units, the use of units for decomposing and for counting are investigated. -
The Development of a Teaching and Learning Model for Mobile-based Collaborative Learning
24 Pages
13 373-396 (24 pages)
The purpose of this study is to develop a teaching and learning model for collaborative learning in mobile learning (m-learning) environments. For this purpose, this study utilized a literature review and a three-round Delphi method that employed three expert panels to develop the teaching and learning model. The teaching and learning model developed in this study includes six primary phases: (1) providing orientation of mobile-based collaborative learning, (2) guiding strategies for improving... -
Lyocell-based activated carbon fibers improved the adsorption of harmful gas properties when produced via dual-simultaneous treatments
Byong Chol Bai, Ji Sun Im, Young-Seak Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.23 10 69-73 (5 pages)
In gas adsorption processes, activated carbon fibers (ACFs) are used for the adsorption of the harmful gases that are generated by coal or oil combustion, and they have been widely studied [1,2]. ACFs have been used for harmful gas removal because of their specific surface area, micropores, reproducibility, safety, and processing ability, which are beneficial properties for a wide range of applications [3,4].
