Oxidative stress and hepatic injury induced in mice fed a Sarcocystis hirsuta cyst extract
Maryam Sasani, Reza Nabavi, Mohammadreza Hajinezhad, Parisa Hasanein 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2018, 제 19권 제 4호 4 500-504 (5 pages)
We studied the toxic effects of a Sarcocystis hirsuta cyst extract fed to mice. Degenerative changes were found in mice gavage-fed fresh, frozen, and heat-treated S. hirsuta cyst extract. There were increases in the levels of serum aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase as well as hepatic and brain malondialdehyde (MDA) levels along with concomitant decreases in catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities of mice receiving fresh and frozen S. hirsuta extracts.... -
Tick-borne rickettsial pathogens in questing ticks, removed from humans and animals in Mexico
Carolina G. Sosa-Gutierrez, Margarita Vargas-Sandoval, Javier Torres, Guadalupe Gordillo-P?rez 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2016, 제 17권 제 3호 12 353-360 (8 pages)
Tick-borne rickettsial diseases (TBRD) are commonly encountered in medical and veterinary clinical settings. The control of these diseases is difficult, requiring disruption of a complex transmission chain involving a vertebrate host and ticks. The geographical distribution of the diseases is related to distribution of the vector, which is an indicator of risk for the population. A total of 1107 were collected by tick drag from forests, ecotourism parks and hosts at 101 sites in 22 of the 32... -
Prevalence of Anaplasma, Bartonella and Borrelia Species in Haemaphysalis longicornis collected from goats in North Korea
Jun-Gu Kang, Sungjin Ko, W. Barney Smith, Heung-Chul Kim, In-Yong Lee, Joon-Seok Chae 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2016, 제 17권 제 2호 10 207-216 (10 pages)
North Korea is located on the northern part of the Korean Peninsula in East Asia. While tick-borne pathogens of medical and veterinary importance have been reported from China and South Korea, they have not been reported from North Korea. To screen for zoonotic tick-borne pathogens in North Korea, ticks were collected from domestic goats. A total of 292 (27 nymph, 26 male, 239 female) Haemaphysalis (H.) longicornis were collected and assayed individually for selected tick-borne pathogens. A... -
Echocardiographic assessment of coronary artery flow in normal canines and model dogs with myocardial infarction

of the left coronary artery (LCA). Blood velocity of the LCA and right coronary artery (RCA) were evaluated following transthoracic pulsed-wave Doppler echocardiography. The LCA was observed as an infundibular shape, located adjacent to the sinus of Valsalva. The RCA appeared as a tubular structure located 12 o’clock relative to the aorta. In normal dogs, the LCA and RCA mean peak diastolic velocities were 20.84 ± 3.24 and 19.47 ± 2.67 cm/sec, respectively. The LCA and RCA mean diastolic... -
Toxic effects of methylmercury, arsanilic acid and danofloxacin on the differentiation of mouse embryonic stem cells into neural cells
Seok-Jin Kang, Sang-Hee Jeong, Eun-Joo Kim, Young-Il Park, Sung-Won Park, Hyo-Sook Shin, Seong-Wan Son, Hwan-Goo Kang* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 11 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2014, 제 15권 제 1호 7 61-71 (11 pages)
This study was performed to assess the neurotoxic effects of methylmercury, arsanilic acid and danofloxacin by quantification of neural-specific proteins in vitro. Quantitation of the protein markers during 14 days of differentiation indicated that the mouse ESCs were completely differentiated into neural cells by Day 8. The cells were treated with non-cytotoxic concentrations of three chemicals during differentiation. Low levels of exposure to methylmercury decreased the expression of GABAA-R... -
Differential expression of thymic DNA repair genes in low-dose-rate irradiated AKR/J mice
Jin Jong Bong, Yu Mi Kang, Suk Chul Shin, Seung Jin Choi, Kyung Mi Lee, Hee Sun Kim 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2013, 제 14권 제 3호 6 271-279 (9 pages)
We previously determined that AKR/J mice housed in a low-dose-rate (LDR) (Cs, 0.7 mGy/h, 2.1 Gy) γ-irradiation facility developed less spontaneous thymic lymphoma and survived longer than those receiving sham or high-dose-rate (HDR) (Cs, 0.8 Gy/min, 4.5 Gy) radiation. Interestingly, histopathological analysis showed a mild lymphomagenesis in the thymus of LDR-irradiated mice. Therefore, in this study, we investigated whether LDR irradiation could trigger the expression of thymic genes involved... -
Cloning and characterization of a selenium-independent glutathione peroxidase (HC29) from adult Haemonchus contortus
Wei Sun, Xiaokai Song, Ruofeng Yan, Lixin Xu, Xiangrui Li* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2012, 제 13권 제 1호 8 49-58 (10 pages)
The complete coding sequence of Haemonchus (H.) contortus HC29 cDNA was generated by rapid amplification of cDNA ends in combination with PCR using primers targeting the 5´- and 3´-ends of the partial mRNA sequence. The cloned HC29 cDNA was shown to be 1,113 bp in size with an open reading frame of 507 bp, encoding a protein of 168 amino acid with a calculated molecular mass of 18.9 kDa. Amino acid sequence analysis revealed that the cloned HC29 cDNA contained the conserved catalytic triad and... -
Pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokine expression and histopathological characteristics in canine brain with traumatic brain injury
Chi-Ho Yu, Ji-Young Yhee, Jong-Hyuk Kim, Keum-Soon Im, Na-Hyun Kim, Dong-In Jung, Hee-Chun Lee, Seung-Ki Chon, Jung-Hyang Sur* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 3 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2011, 제 12권 제 3호 16 299-301 (3 pages)
We analyzed the expression level and cellular localization of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines and histopathologically characterized canine traumatic brain injury (TBI). Canine TBI brains revealed subarachnoid and cerebral cortical hemorrhage, neutrophilic infiltration, neuronal necrosis, astrocytosis, and vasogenic edema. Immunohistochemical evaluations suggested that both pro-inflammatory cytokines [interleukin (IL)-1b, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-a] and anti-inflammatory cytokines...
