Characterization and localization of the unique Marek's disease virus type 2 ORF873 gene product
Hyung-Kwan Jang 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 3호 4 207-213 (7 pages)
Studies on Marek’s disease virus (MDV)-unique genes are important for understanding the biological nature of the virus. Based on complete DNA sequence analyses of the MDV genomes, the MDV genomes contain presumably at least five MDV-unique genes, which are commonly conserved among the three MDV serotypes. A recombinant baculovirus that contains the MDV serotype 2 (MDV2)-unique gene, ORF873, under the polyhedrin promoter was constructed and designated rAcORF873. Polyclonal and monoclonal... -

are some of the most challenging aspects of proteomics. Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) combined with immunoblot analysis were employed to study the N. caninum proteome. Protein sample preparation was carried out by first conducting sonication, followed by adding lysis buffer containing 7M urea plus 2M thiourea to the purified tachyzoites in order to complete disruption. A total of 335 differentially expressed protein spots were detected using pH 4-7 IPG strip (7 cm) that were run in... -
Comparative studies on pheno- and genotypic properties of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from bovine subclinical mastitis in central Java in Indonesia and Hesse in Germany
Siti Isrina Oktavia Salasia, Zaini Khusnan, Christoph Lammler, Michael Zschock 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 2호 3 103-109 (7 pages)
In the present study, 35 Staphylococcal strain isolated from milk samples of 16 cows from eight farms of three different geographic locations in Central Java, Indonesia, and from milk samples of 19 cows from 19 farms of different geographic locations in Hesse, Germany, were compared pheno- and genotypically. On the basis of cultural and biochemical properties as well as by amplification of the 23S rRNA specific to Staphylococcus aureus, all isolates could be identified as S. aureus. In addition,... -
Identification of a putative cellular receptor 150 kDa polypeptide for porcine epidemic diarrhea virus in porcine enterocytes
Jin Sik Oh, Dae Sub Song, Bong Kyun Park 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2003, 제 4권 제 3호 12 269-275 (7 pages)
Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) causes an acute enteritis in pigs of all ages, often fatality for neonates. PEDV occupies an intermediate position between two well characterized members of the coronavirus group I, human coronavirus (HCoV-229E) and transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV) which uses aminopeptidase N (APN), a 150 kDa protein, as their receptors. However, the receptor of the PEDV has not been identified yet. A virus overlay protein binding assay (VOPBA) was used to... -
Altered maturation of dendritic cells by taxol, an anticancer drug
Hong-Gu Joo 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2003, 제 4권 제 3호 5 229-234 (6 pages)
Taxol is a clinically useful anticancer drug against a variety of cancers. Although it has been known that taxol induces the apoptosis of cancer cells through cytochrome C release and the activation of caspases, the effect of taxol on dendritic cells (DCs) has not been studied. In this study, taxol enhanced the expression of MHC class II on DCs, compared to medium-treated immature DCs. Surprisingly, the viability of DCs was not decreased by taxol, whereas that of cancer cells was. It was... -
Topology of Scavenger Receptor Class B Type I (SR-BI) on Brush Border Membrane
Chang-Hoon Han and Mun-Han Lee 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2002, 제 3권 제 4호 3 265-272 (8 pages)
Both hydropathy plot and in vitro translation results predict the topology of SR-BI; the receptor is an integral membrane protein of 509 amino acids, consisting of a short cytoplasmic N-terminus of 9 amino acids followed by a first transmembrane domain of 22 amino acids, the extracellular domain of 408 amino acids, the second transmembrane domain of 22 amino acids, and the cytoplasmic C-terminus of 47 amino acids. The immunoblot of rBBMV in the presence or absence of pAb589 peptide antigen (the... -
Prior Ischemic Treatment Renders Kidney Resistant to Subsequent Ischemia
Kwon-Moo Park and Ho-Jae Han 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2002, 제 3권 제 2호 9 115-122 (8 pages)
Prior ischemia leads to resistance against subsequent ischemic insults. The mechanisms that underlie this adaptive response remain unidentified. Thus, we studied whether the reduced susceptibility of mice previously subjected to the ischemia to ischemia/ reperfusion injury is related with altered inflammatory responses. Thirty minutes of bilateral kidney ischemia results in significantly increased plasma creatinine and blood urea nitrogen levels in BALB/c male mice. There is severe disruption of... -
Effective methods for the production of immunoglobulin Y using immunogens of Bordetella bronchiseptica , Pasteurella multocida and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae
Jong Man Kim, Han Sang Yoo, In Soo Choi, Won Hur, Na Ri Shin 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 11 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2002, 제 3권 제 1호 8 47-57 (11 pages)
Swine respiratory diseases induce severe economic losses in the swine industry worldwide. Several methods have been developed and applied to control these diseases. However, there are still problems of disease control in the swine industry. Recently, egg yolk antibodies have been found to offer several advantages for disease control in animals and humans. In a previous study (24), antibodies to several causative pathogens of swine respiratory diseases were developed. However, several problems... -
Expression of Angiostatin Using DNA - Based Semliki Forest Virus Replicon
Hyun Soo Kim, Kwang Soon Shin, Jong Soo Lee, Young Ki Choi, Chul Joong Kim, Yong Soo Choi 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2002, 제 3권 제 1호 7 41-45 (5 pages)
Angiogenesis is recognized as a critical factor in the growth of tumor cells and plays a key role in the tumor metastasis. Recent studies for antiangiogenic substances are getting popular. The angiostatin, one of the antiangiogenic substances, leads to the increased apoptosis of the tumor cells by inhibiting the neovascularization of the tumor. The angiostatin was identified as the internal fragments of the plasminogen which has no antiangiogenic activity. By hydrolysis of the plasminogen, the... -
Detection of canine distemper virus (CDV) through one step RT-PCR combined with nested PCR
Yong-Hwan Kim, Kyu-Woan Cho, Hwa-Young Youn, Han Sang Yoo, Hong-Ryul Han 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2001, 제 2권 제 1호 10 59-63 (5 pages)
A one step reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR) combined nested PCR was set up to increase efficiency in the diagnosis of canine distemper virus (CDV) infection after developement of nested PCR. Two PCR primer sets were designed based on the sequence of nucleocapsid gene of CDV Onderstepoort strain. One-step RT-PCR with the outer primer pair was revealed to detect 10(2) PFU/ml. The sensitivity was increased hundredfold using the one-step RT-PCR combined with the nested PCR. Specificity of the PCR...
