Adsorption capability of activated carbon synthesized from coconut shell
Md Shariful Islam, Bee Chin Ang, Samira Gharehkhani, Amalina Binti, Muhammad Afifi 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 9 Pages

By applying the size-strain plot method to the X-ray diffraction data, the crystallite size and the crystal strain was determined to be 42.46 nm and 0.000489897, respectively, which indicate a perfect crystallite structure. The field emission scanning electron microscopy image showed the presence of well-developed pores on the surface of the activated carbon. The presence of important functional groups was shown by the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy spectrum. The adsorption of methyl... -
Adsorptive removal of atmospheric pollutants over Pyropia tenera chars

was synthesized and used for the adsorptive removal of formaldehyde and nitrogen oxide. Biochar was produced from the fast pyrolysis of the red marine macro alga, Pyropia tenera. The P. tenera char was then activated with steam, ammonia and KOH to alter its characteristics. The adsorption of formaldehyde, which is one of the main indoor air pollutants, onto the seaweed char was performed using 1-ppm formaldehyde and the char was activated using a range of methods. The char activated with both... -
Carbon rich fly ash and their nanostructures

한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.19 3 23-31 (9 pages)
Carbon rich fly ash was recently reported to have compositions that are ideal for use as a precursor and catalyst for carbon nanotube growth. This fly ash powder is mostly composed of pure carbon, predominantly present as sp2. In this work, the effect of sonication time on the morphology and structural properties of carbon rich fly ash particles is reported. The obtained results show that ultrasound treatment is an effective tool for producing ultrafine particles/fragments with higher porosity,... -
Adsorption of lisinopril and chlorpheniramine from aqueous solution on dehydrated and activated carbons

with adsorption data closely following the pseudo second order kinetic model. Adsorption increases with temperature (25°C?45°C) and activation energy (Ea) is in a range of 19?25 kJ mol/L. Equilibrium studies show higher adsorption on AC than DC. Thermodynamic parameters show that drug removal is endothermic and spontaneous with physical adsorption dominating the adsorption process. Column adsorption data show good fitting to the Thomas model. Despite its very low surface area, DC shows ~70% of... -
Cu²? ion reduction in wastewater over RDF-derived char
Hyung Won Lee, Rae-su Park, Sung Hoon Park, Sang-Chul Jung, Jong-Ki Jeon, Sang Chai Kim, Jin Do Chung, Won Geun Choi, Young-Kwon Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 7 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.18 8 49-55 (7 pages)
Refuse-derived fuel (RDF) produced using municipal solid waste was pyrolyzed to produce RDF char. For the first time, the RDF char was used to remove aqueous copper, a representative heavy metal water pollutant. Activation of the RDF char using steam and KOH treatments was performed to change the specific surface area, pore volume, and the metal cation quantity of the char. N2 sorption, Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometer (ICP-AES), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy... -
Photocatalytic degradation and antibacterial investigation of nano synthesized Ag₃VO₄ particles @PAN nanofibers

by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy equipped with rapid energy dispersive analysis of X-ray, photoluminescence, and ultraviolet?visible spectroscopy. The characterization procedures revealed that the obtained material is PAN nanofibers decorated by Ag₃VO₄ nanoparticles. Photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue investigated in an aqueous solution under irradiation showed 99% degradation of the dye within 75 min. Finally, the... -
A review: role of interfacial adhesion between carbon blacks and elastomeric materials
Min-Joo Kang, Young-Jung Heo, Fan-Long Jin, Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 10 Pages

used as reinforcing materials in advanced rubber composites. The mechanical properties of CB-reinforced rubber composites are mostly controlled by the extent of interfacial adhesion between the CBs and the rubber. Surface treatments are generally performed on CBs to introduce chemical functional groups on its surface. In this study, we review the effects of various surface treatment methods for CBs. In addition, the preparation and properties of CB-reinforced rubber composites are discussed. -
A review: methane capture by nanoporous carbon materials for automobiles
Pil-Seon Choi, Ji-Moon Jeong, Yong-Ki Choi, Myung-Seok Kim, Gi-Joo Shin, Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 11 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.17 No.1 3 18-28 (11 pages)
porous adsorbents are regarded as an important green and economic technology. It is very important to develop highly efficient adsorbents to realize techno-economic systems for CH4 adsorption and storage. In this review, we summarize the nanomaterials being used for CH4 adsorption, which are divided into non-carbonaceous (e.g., zeolites, metal-organic frameworks, and porous polymers) and carbonaceous materials (e.g., activated carbons, ordered porous carbons, and activated carbon fibers), with a...
