Chang-Min Lee, Jae-Ik Han, Min-Hee Kang, Seung-Gon Kim, Hee-Myung Park 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2018, 제 19권 제 1호 16 129-135 (7 pages)
in five exons. Protein structure and function of the five nonsynonymous genetic variations were predicted. Three of the five polymorphisms were predicted to be probable causes of damage to protein function and confirmed by protein structure model verification. This study identified six polymorphisms of the SERT gene in Maltese dogs with DMVD, suggesting an association between the SERT gene and canine DMVD. This is the first study of SERT mutation in Maltese dogs with DMVD and is considered a... -
Retrospective evaluation of circulating thyroid hormones in critically ill dogs with systemic inflammatory response syndrome
Massimo Giunti, Roberta Troia, Mara Battilani, Luciana Giardino, Francesco Dondi, Giulia Andreani, Federico Fracassi 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2017, 제 18권 제 4호 10 471-477 (7 pages)
Critical illness can be associated with transient alterations in circulating thyroid hormone concentrations, indicating the presence of non-thyroidal illness (NTI). NTI is well described in humans, but there are few reports on its occurrence and prognostic significance in dogs. This retrospective study assessed the occurrence of NTI in a population of dogs with systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and investigated its association with disease severity (APPLEfast scores). A total of 41... -
Effect of phosphorus deficiency on erythrocytic morphology and function in cows
Ziwei Zhang, Mingyu Bi, Jie Yang, Haidong Yao, Zhonghua Liu, Shiwen Xu 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2017, 제 18권 제 3호 10 333-340 (8 pages)
The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of phosphorus (P) deficiency on the morphological and functional characteristics of erythrocytes in cows. Forty Holstein-Friesian dairy cows in mid-lactation were randomly divided into two groups of 20 each and were fed either a low-P diet (0.03% P/kg dry matter [DM]) or a control diet (0.36% P/kg DM). Red blood cell (RBC) indices results showed RBC and mean corpuscular hemoglobin decreased while mean corpuscular volume increased significantly... -
Expression of von Willebrand factor, pulmonary intravascular macrophages, and Toll-like receptors in lungs of septic foals
Jacqueline M. E. Harrison, Leah M. Quanstrom, Alex R. Robinson, Bruce Wobeser, Stacy L. Anderson, Baljit Singh 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2017, 제 18권 제 1호 3 17-23 (7 pages)
Sepsis causes significant mortality in neonatal foals; however, there is little data describing the cellular and molecular pathways of lung inflammation in septic foals. This study was conducted to characterize lung inflammation in septic foals. Lung tissue sections from control (n = 6) and septic (n = 17) foals were compared using histology and immunohistology. Blinded pathologic scoring of hematoxylin and eosin stained samples revealed increased features of lung inflammation such as thickened... -
Claudin-1, -2, -4, and -5: comparison of expression levels and distribution in equine tissues

junctions (TJs) to form physical barriers and regulate paracellular transportation. To understand equine diseases, it is helpful to measure the tissue-specific expression of TJs in horses. Major equine diseases such as colic and West Nile cause damage to TJs. In this study, the expression level and distribution of claudin-1, -2, -4, and -5 in eight tissues were assessed by Western blotting and immunohistochemistry methods. Claudin-1 was primarily identified in the lung, duodenum, and uterus,... -
Effects of aluminum on the reduction of neural stem cells, proliferating cells, and differentiating neuroblasts in the dentate gyrus of D-galactose-treated mice via increasing oxidative stress
Sung Min Nam, Jong Whi Kim, Dae Young Yoo, Woosuk Kim, Hyo Young Jung, Jung Hoon Choi, In Koo Hwang, Je Kyung Seong, Yeo Sung Yo 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2016, 제 17권 제 2호 1 127-136 (10 pages)
Aluminum (Al) accumulation increases with aging, and long-term exposure to Al is regarded as a risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease. In this study, we investigated the effects of Al and/or D-galactose on neural stem cells, proliferating cells, differentiating neuroblasts, and mature neurons in the hippocampal dentate gyrus. AlCl3 (40 mg/kg/day) was intraperitoneally administered to C57BL/6J mice for 4 weeks. In addition, vehicle (physiological saline) or D-galactose (100 mg/kg) was... -
Gap junction blockage promotes cadmium-induced apoptosis in BRL 3A derived from Buffalo rat liver cells
Di Hu, Hui Zou, Tao Han, Junze Xie, Nannan Dai, Liling Zhuo, Jianhong Gu, Jianchun Bian, Yan Yuan, Xuezhong Liu, Zongping Liu 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2016, 제 17권 제 1호 8 63-70 (8 pages)
Gap junctions mediate direct communication between cells; however, toxicological cascade triggered by nonessential metals can abrogate cellular signaling mediated by gap junctions. Although cadmium (Cd) is known to induce apoptosis in organs and tissues, the mechanisms that underlie gap junction activity in Cd-induced apoptosis in BRL 3A rat liver cells has yet to be established. In this study, we showed that Cd treatment decreased the cell index (a measure of cellular electrical impedance) in... -
Comparative proteomic analysis of proteins expression changes in the mammary tissue of cows infected with Escherichia coli mastitis
Xiao-wei Zhao, Yong-xin Yang, Dong-wei Huang, Guang-long Cheng, Hui-ling Zhao 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 11 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2015, 제 16권 제 3호 2 253-263 (11 pages)
a network analysis of the proteins with altered expression in mammary tissues demonstrated that these factors are predominantly involved with binding and structural molecule activities. Vimentin and ㅁㅁα-enolase were central “functional hubs” in the network. Based on results from the present study, disease-induced alterations of protein expression in mammary glands and potential markers for the effective treatment of E. coli mastitis were identified. These data have also helped... -

In the present study, the use of dogs with experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) as a disease model for necrotizing encephalitis (NE) was assessed. Twelve healthy dogs were included in this study. Canine forebrain tissues (8 g), including white and grey matter, were homogenized with 4 mL of phosphate-buffered saline for 5 min in an ice bath. The suspension was emulsified with the same volume of Freund’s complete adjuvant containing 1 mg/mL of killed Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Ra.... -
Treadmill exercise prevents diabetes-induced increases in lipid peroxidation and decreases in Cu,Zn-superoxide dismutase levels in the hippocampus of Zucker diabetic fatty rats
Jong Whi Kim, Junghyun Chae , Sung Min Nam, Yo Na Kim, Dae Young Yoo, Jung Hoon Choi, Hyo Young Jung, Wook Song, In Koo Hwang, J 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2015, 제 16권 제 1호 2 11-16 (6 pages)
the ZDF rats were moderately decreased. Notably, treadmill exercise prevented the increase of blood glucose levels in ZDF rats. In addition, treadmill exercise significantly ameliorated changes in MDA and SOD1 levels in the hippocampus although SOD activity was not altered. These findings suggest that diabetes increases lipid peroxidation and decreases SOD1 levels, and treadmill exercise can mitigate diabetes-induced oxidative damage in the hippocampus.
