Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 22 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2020, Vol.14 No.3 1 1-22 (22 pages)
While assessment is key in every field of learning, how it is accomplished determines the outcome. The early childhood grades present a challenge as children are young and of different abilities. There isn’t a standard way early childhood programs are required to measure assessment and many programs use varied assessment approaches. Thus, information on if teachers do actually collect data and how they use that data is lacking in assessment research of early childhood programs. This study... -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 22 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2014, Vol.8 No.1 4 57-78 (22 pages)
In Australia, over one third of all children in Early Childhood programs speak a first language other than English. Despite considerable work into teachers’ beliefs on cultural diversity, attention to aspects of second language acquisition in the Early Years has been limited within the Early Childhood field. This paper reports on a small study investigating how four early childhood educators understand theory of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) and bilingualism, and how they cater for... -

Kathleen A. Paciga, Jennifer Garrette Lisy, William H. Teale Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 20 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2013, Vol.7 No.2 6 85-104 (20 pages)
reactions to technology reported on here apply widely across disciplines and curricular areas in early childhood. We focus first on current research related to the role of technology in preschool children’s early language and literacy instruction and then discuss what we believe is critically important to address by any preschool or other level of educational institution in order to redress serious shortcomings in the role of technology in the classroom education of today’s young children. -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 21 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2013, Vol.7 No.2 5 63-83 (21 pages)
This article provides case data that illustrate the potential of the emergent writing/drawing context for supporting oral language, content knowledge, and reasoning in preschoolers. The adult-child talk surrounding the samples provided are discussed in relation to the child’s prior experiences and knowledge, and circumstances in the classroom that affect a teacher’s time allocation. A current trend in using preschool writing centers in U.S. classrooms to focus quite narrowly on supporting... -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 32 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2011, Vol.5 No.1 5 91-122 (32 pages)
the approach to education has been a meritocratic system and this has strongly reflected and shaped Singapore culture and way of life. The dramatic educational change means a shift from years of rigorous academic rote learning to a play curriculum. This will not be unproblematic. A qualitative case study research methodology was used to study the lived experiences of the stakeholders in a kindergarten. The implications of the policy change and the challenges faced by teachers will be explored. -
