Molecular characterization of a 13-amino acid deletion in VP1 (1D) protein and novel amino acid substitutions in 3D polymerase protein of foot and mouth disease virus subtype A/Iran87
Majid Esmaelizad*, Saber Jelokhani-Niaraki, Khadije Hashemnejad, Morteza Kamalzadeh, Mohsen Lotfi 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2011, 제 12권 제 4호 9 363-371 (9 pages)
The nucleotide sequence of the VP1 (1D) and partial 3D polymerase (3D) coding regions of the foot and mouth disease virus (FMDV) vaccine strain A/Iran87, a highly passaged isolate (∼150 passages), was determined and aligned with previously published FMDV serotype A sequences. Overall analysis of the amino acid substitutions revealed that the partial 3D coding region contained four amino acid alterations. Amino acid sequence comparison of the VP1 coding region of the field isolates revealed... -
Real time observation of mouse fetal skeleton using a high resolution X-ray synchrotron
Dong Woo Chang, Bora Kim, Jae Hoon Shin, Young Min Yun, Jung Ho Je, Yeu kuang Hwu, Jung Hee Yoon, Je Kyung Seong 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2011, 제 12권 제 2호 1 107-114 (8 pages)
The X-ray synchrotron is quite different from conventional radiation sources. This technique may expand the capabilities of conventional radiology and be applied in novel manners for special cases. To evaluate the usefulness of X-ray synchrotron radiation systems for real time observations, mouse fetal skeleton development was monitored with a high resolution X-ray synchrotron. A non-monochromatized X-ray synchrotron (white beam, 5C1 beamline) was employed to observe the skeleton of mice under... -

the N gene among all Korean isolates ranged from 98.1 to 99.8%, while those of the G gene ranged from 97.9 to 99.3%. Based on the nucleotide analysis of the N and G genes, the Korean RABV isolates were confirmed as genotype I of Lyssavirus and classified into four distinct subgroups with high similarity. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the Korean isolates were most closely related to the non-Korean NeiMeng1025B and 857r strains, which were isolated from rabid raccoon dogs in Eastern China and... -

of the isolates harbored tetA gene and one isolate harbored tetE gene. Additionally, quinolone-resistance determining regions (QRDRs) consisting of the gyrA and parC genes were amplified and sequenced. Among the quinolone-resistant A. salmonicida strains, 15 harbored point mutations in the gyrA codon 83 which were responsible for the corresponding amino acid substitutions of Ser→Arg or Ser→Asn. We detected no point mutations in other QRDRs, such as gyrA codons 87 and 92, and parC codons 80 and... -
Expression patterns of influenza virus receptors in the respiratory tracts of four species of poultry
Ji Eun Yu, Hakyoung Yoon, Hyun Jeong Lee, Jong Hwan Lee, Byung Joon Chang, Chang Seon Song, Sang-Soep Nahm* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2011, 제 12권 제 1호 2 7-13 (7 pages)
The primary determinant of influenza virus infectivity is the type of linkage between sialic acid and oligosaccharides on the host cells. Hemagglutinin of avian influenza viruses preferentially binds to sialic acids linked to galactose by an α-2,3 linkage whereas hemagglutinin of human influenza viruses binds to sialic acids with an α-2,6 linkage. The distribution patterns of influenza receptors in the avian respiratory tracts are of particular interest because these are important for initial... -
Conditional knockout of brca1/2 and p53 in mouse ovarian surface epithelium: Do they play a role in ovarian carcinogenesis?
Ki-Yon Kim, Dong Wook Park, Eui-Bae Jeung, Kyung-Chul Choi* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 4호 3 291-297 (7 pages)
Alterations of genes are known to be critical for the induction of tumorigenesis, but the mechanism of ovarian carcinogenesis is little understood and remains to be elucidated. In this study, we investigated the roles of brca1, brca2 and p53 genes in the development of ovarian cancer using conditional knockout mice generated by a Cre-loxP recombinant system. Following the application of recombinant adenovirus expressing Cre in vitro, the proliferation of ovarian surface epithelium (OSE) was... -
Sequence and phylogenetic analysis of the non-structural 3A and 3B protein-coding regions of foot-and-mouth disease virus subtype A Iran 05

FMDV isolates. The phylogenetic tree based on the 672 bp 3AB gene sequences of type A FMDV from thirteen different locations clustered them into five distinct lineages. The A Iran 05 isolate clustered in lineage A along with four type A variants and was closely matched with viruses isolated in Turkey and Pakistan during 2005∼2006. The number of protein sequence differences exhibited by each of the isolates revealed that A Iran 05 isolate contains three amino acid substitutions at positions... -
Antimutagenic and anticarcinogenic effect of methanol extracts of Petasites japonicus Maxim leaves
Hwan-Goo Kang, Sang-Hee Jeong*, †, Joon-Hyoung Cho 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 1호 8 51-58 (8 pages)
The methanol extract from the leaves of Petasites japonicus Maxim (PJ) was studied for its (anti-)mutagenic effect with the SOS chromotest and reverse mutation assay. The (anti-)carcinogenic effects were evaluated by the cytotoxicity on human cancer line cells and by the function and the expression of gap junctions in rat liver epithelial cell. PJ extracts significantly decreased spontaneous β-galactosidase activity and β-galactosidase activity induced by a mutagen, ICR, in Salmonella (S.)... -
TP53 Polymorphisms allow for genetic sub-grouping of the canine transmissible venereal tumor

of CTVT show similar histopathological characteristics and share common genetic alterations. Despite the common genetic origin of CTVT, mutations in the P53 gene have been reported. In this study, we proposed that tumor samples can be genetically grouped using this gene. The presence of different subgroups of CTVT was determined in Mexican dogs using the TP53 gene sequence in CTVT samples. Four new polymorphisms were found and therefore, the CTVT samples were classified in five subgroups. -
Comparison of the age-related porcine endogenous retrovirus (PERV) expression using duplex RT-PCR
Hyoung Joon Moon, Hye Kwon Kim, Seong Jun Park, Chul Seung Lee, Dae Sub Song, Bo Kyu Kang, Bong Kyun Park* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages

endogenous retroviruses (PERVs) are members of family Retroviridae, genus Gamma retrovirus, and transmitted by both horizontally and vertically like other endogenous retroviruses (ERVs). PERV was initially described in the 1970s having inserted its gene in the host genome of different pig breeds, and three classes, PERV-A, PERV-B, and PERV-C are known. The therapeutic use of living cells, tissues, and organs from animals called xenotransplantation might relieve the limited supply of allografts ...
