Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 22 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2020, Vol.14 No.3 1 1-22 (22 pages)
early childhood teachers approached assessment and how they used that assessment. Seven early childhood teachers were interviewed that used the TS GOLD assessment. Common and varied themes are identified in teacher data collection processes, data organization/interpretation and lesson planning and instructional use practices. Importance of assessment planning, knowledge of assessment tools, and use of assessment systems are discussed as areas of possible training and professional development. -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 24 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2020, Vol.14 No.2 7 135-158 (24 pages)
The development of children’s emotional competence (EC) throughout the preschool period is critical for supporting their future social competence, transition to school and long-term academic success. This paper reports on survey responses of 78 Australian preschool educators to the scale Preschool Educators’ Readiness for Promoting Children’s Emotional Competence modified from Bouillet, Ivanec & Miljević-Riđički (2014) and a short open response section. This scale sought the views... -
Eye on the Future: Diverse Family Language Policy in Three Singaporean Malay Homes with Preschool Children
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 23 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2020, Vol.14 No.1 6 125-147 (23 pages)
Singapore’s bilingual education policy mandates children study English and a mother-tongue in school. To understand the language shift from Malay to English in Malay homes from the perspective of family language policy, this paper reports on the diverse language ideologies and practices of three Singaporean Malay mothers of preschool children. The in-depth interviews were conducted in 2013- 2014 and transcribed verbatim by a bilingual English-Malay transcriptionist. Although the mothers were of... -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 25 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2020, Vol.14 No.1 5 99-123 (25 pages)
acknowledged challenges of not being able to communicate with children and their families as they did not speak any English. Participants in this study appeared to have limited knowledge of the nature of bilingualism and had varying beliefs around how to best support bilingual children. The results showed an inherent lack of differentiation with respect to educators' approach to pedagogy when teaching bilingual children. Implications for professional development and practice are discussed. -
The Role of Professional Development in Improving Quality and Supporting Child Outcomes in Early Education and Care
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 20 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2019, Vol.13 No.2 4 49-68 (20 pages)
It is well established in the literature that high quality ECEC is important for children’s outcomes, and that variations in quality can be explained, to a large extent, by variations in educator pedagogy and practice. We argue for a better understanding of how ECEC educators and services can achieve (and be supported to optimise) children’s development and learning outcomes. This paper argues for more rigorous PD designs, considered evidence-based content and delivery that are embedded within... -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 20 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2019, Vol.13 No.2 1 1-20 (20 pages)
the divided system of kindergarten and child care center in Korea can be placed in three categories – inefficient administration governance, duplicated budget allocation and its inefficiency, and quality difference of early education and care for the same age group. Integration was started first by the Minister of the Ministry of Gender Equality (MOGE), Chi Eun-hee of the Kim Dae-jung government in 2003. The Roh Moo-hyun government moved child care administration from the Ministry of Heal... -

regular classrooms. However, almost half of the counties and cities in Taiwan failed to deliver itinerant services to half of the special education students in their jurisdictions, which signals a shortage of special education support for regular early childhood teachers. The lack of clear guidelines in the current policies for preschool inclusion placement has also led to the neglect of special education inclusion students right to appropriate education. Responding suggestions are discussed. -

while enactive mastery experiences predicted their self-efficacy in managing classrooms and involving parents in their children’s education. It was recommended among others that pre internship, internship and post internship seminars should be well structured for students to have enough practice sessions and observations; there should be regular supervision from lecturers and post teaching conferences to provide appropriate feedback to build student teachers’ confidence and self-efficacy.
