대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.6 17 517-526 (10 pages)
The present study was attempted to investigate whether polyphenolic compounds isolated from wine, which is brewed from Rubus coreanum Miquel (PCRC), may affect the release of catecholamines (CA) from the isolated perfused adrenal medulla of the spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs), and to establish its mechanism of action. PCRC (20∼180Ռg/ml) perfused into an adrenal vein for 90 min relatively dose-dependently inhibited the CA secretory responses to ACh (5.32 mM), high K+ (56 mM), DMPP... -

Overexpression of AMPKՁ1 showed that blood glucose concentration was decreased but that glucose tolerance was not completely recovered on 7th day after treatment. Plasma triglyceride concentration was decreased slightly, and hepatic triglyceride content was markedly reduced by decreasing expression of hepatic lipogenic genes. Overexpression of AMPKՁ1 markedly improved hepatic steatosis and it may have effective role for improving hepatic lipid metabolism in hyperlipidemic state. -

The role of apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease1/redox factor-1 (Ref-1) on the lead (Pb)-induced cellular response was investigated in the cultured endothelial cells. Pb caused progressive cellular death in endothelial cells, which occurred in a concentration- and time-dependent manner. However, Ref-1 overexpression with AdRef-1 significantly inhibited Pb-induced cell death in the endothelial cells. Also the overexpression of Ref-1 significantly suppressed Pb-induced superoxide and hydrogen... -
Heme Oxygenase-1 Induced by Aprotinin Inhibits Vascular Smooth Muscle Cell Proliferation Through Cell Cycle Arrest in Hypertensive Rats
HyoungChulChoi, KwangYounLee, DongHyupLee, YoungJinKang 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.4 7 309-313 (5 pages)
Spontaneous hypertensive rats (SHR) are an established model of genetic hypertension. Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) from SHR proliferate faster than those of control rats (Wistar-Kyoto rats; WKY). We tested the hypothesis that induction of heme oxygenase (HO)-1 induced by aprotinin inhibits VSMC proliferation through cell cycle arrest in hypertensive rats. Aprotinin treatment inhibited VSMC proliferation in SHR more than in normotensive rats. These inhibitory effects were associated with... -

It was evaluated the inhibitory action of quercetin-3-O-Ղ-D-glucuronopyranoside (QGC) on reflux esophagitis and gastritis in rats. QGC was isolated from the herba of Rumex Aquaticus. Reflux esophagitis or gastritis was induced surgically or by administering indomethacin, respectively. Oral QGC decreased ulcer index, injury area, gastric volume, and acid output and increased gastric pH as compared with quercetin. Furthermore, QGC significantly decreased gastric lesion sizes induced by... -

Rotenone, a mitochondrial complex I inhibitor, can induce the pathological features of Parkinson's disease (PD). In the present study, naringin, a grapefruit flavonoid, inhibited rotenone-induced cell death in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells. We assessed cell death and apoptosis by measuring mitogen- activated protein kinase (MAPKs) and caspase (CASPs) activities and by performing 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, 4,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI)... -

Zinc released from excited glutamatergic neurons accelerates amyloidՂ(AՂ)aggregation, underscoring the therapeutic potential of zinc chelation for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Zinc can also alter AՂconcentration by affecting its degradation. In order to elucidate the possible role of zinc influx in secretase-processed AՂproduction, SH-SY5Y cells stably expressing amyloid precursor protein (APP) were treated with pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC), a zinc... -

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.2 7 115-122 (8 pages)
Functional defects in mitochondria are involved in the induction of cell death in cancer cells. We assessed the toxic effect of camptothecin against the human cervical and uterine tumor cell line SiHa with respect to the mitochondria-mediated cell death process, and examined the combined effect of camptothecin and anticancer drugs. Camptothecin caused apoptosis in SiHa cells by inducing mitochondrial membrane permeability changes that lead to the loss of mitochondrial membrane potential,... -

The aim of this study was to determine whether single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of matrix metallopeptidase 2 (MMP2) are associated with obesity. MMP2 is an enzyme with proteolytic activity against matrix and nonmatrix proteins, particularly basement membrane constituents. To identify the relationship between polymorphisms of MMP2 and overweight/obese, we genotyped 5 SNPs (rs17242319, rs1053605, rs243849, rs2287074, and rs10775332) of the coding region of MMP2 using the Golden Gate assay on...
