A Role of Mitogen Activated Protein Kinases and Inflammatory Responses in Gender Differences in Kidney Ischemia Injury
KwonMooParkHoJaeHan 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.3 5 155-160 (6 pages)
signal-regulated kinases (ERKs) was lower in males than in females. Post- ischemia medullary infiltration of RAW 264.7 cell, a monocyte-macrophage cell, and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) were greater in males than in females. In conclusion, males were much more susceptible to ischemia than females. The enhanced propensity to ischemic injury in males was correlated with greater activation of JNKs, greater expression of ICAM-1, and greater trapping of leukocytes in the medulla. -
Changes of the Level of G Protein α-subunit mRNA by Withdrawal from Morphine and Butorphanol
SeikwanOh 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.4 4 291-299 (9 pages)
Specifically, the level of Gαs mRNA was decreased in the cortex and cerebellar granule layer during the morphine and butorphanol withdrawal. The level of Gαi mRNA was decreased in the dentate gyrus and cerebellar granule layer during the morphine withdrawal. However, the level of Gαi mRNA was significantly elevated during the butorphanol withdrawal. These results suggest that region-specific changes of G protein α-subunit mRNA were involved in the withdrawal from morphine and butorphanol. -
Changes in the Endothelin-1-induced Contraction of Aorta in Streptozotocin-induced Diabetic Rats

by single injection of streptozotocin (55 mg/kg, i.p.). The immunoreactive ET-1 levels in endothelial layer of thoracic aorta were much higher in DM rats than control rats. Nitrite in tissue homogenate was decreased and plasma nitrite was increased in DM rats. Malondialdehyde (MDA) was significantly increased in DM rats and cGMP was not significantly different between control and DM rats. ET-1 produced concentration- dependent contractile responses that are significantly attenuated in DM rats... -
Systemic Injection of Lidocaine Induce Expression of c-fos mRNA and Protein in Adult Rat Brain

stress to brain were increase the expression of transcription factor c-fos in various populations of neurons. In this study, we examined whether the intraperitoneal injections of lidocaine at doses inducing convulsion within 10 min increased the level of c-fos mRNA and protein in forebrain areas. In situ hybridization using [35S]UTP-labeled antisense c-fos, cRNA increased c-fos mRNA levels though hippocampal formation, piriform cortex, septum, caudate-putamen, neostriatum, and amygdala within 2... -
A Role of Endogenous Somatostatin in Exocrine Secretion Induced by Intrapancreatic Cholinergic Activation
HyungSeoPark, InSunPark, HyeokYilKwon, YunLyulLee, HyoungJinPark 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.2 6 185-192 (8 pages)
role of endogenous somatostatin in pancreatic exocrine secretion induced by intrapancreatic cholinergic activation was studied in the isolated rat pancreas perfused with modified Krebs-Henseleit solution. Intrapancreatic neurons were activated by electrical field stimulation (EFS: 15 V, 2 msec and 8 Hz). Pancreatic exocrine secretion, including volume flow and amylase output, and release of somatostatin from the pancreas were respectively determined. Somatostatin cells in the islet were stained... -

Two Types of Voltage-dependent Outward Potassium Currents in Smooth Muscle Cells of Rabbit Basilar Atery

and inactivation of IK(V) was at the more hyperpolarized range than that of Ito contrary to the reports in other vascular SMCs. Tetraethylammonium chloride (TEA; 10 mM) markedly inhibited IK(V) but little affected Ito. 4-Aminopyridine (4-AP) had similar inhibitory potency on both currents. While a low concentration of Cd2+ (0.5 mM) shifted the current- voltage relationship of Ito to the positive direction without change of maximum conductance, Cd2+ did not cause any appreciable change for IK(V). -

osmotic gradient. Of the four types of K+ channels recorded, the two most frequently observed were a voltage and Ca2+-activated K+ channel and a K+ channel with a prominent conductance substate. The first K+ channel was identified as the large Ca2+-activated K+ (BK) channel because the open-state probability was increased with depolarization (e-fold change per 10.6±3.5 mV, n=8) and internal Ca2+ (half-activation at 16.7±3.8 mV, n=8, pCa 4) and its conductance was large (247±4.9 pS, n=24 in... -
Cholinergic Control of Pancreatic Secretion: The Effects of Atropine on Plasma Cholecystokinin and Secretin Release

intraduodenal perfusion of sodium oleate (1, 3 and 9 mmol/hr). The volume, protein output and bicarbonate output of the secretion were increased by sodium cleats and this oleate-induced secretion was decreased significantly by atropine administration. However the increased plasma CCK and secretin levels by sodium oleate were not changed by atropine. These results indicate that atropine suppressed sodium oleate-induced pancreatic secretion through inhibiting cholinergic mechanism directly rather... -

on the induction of faba bean resistance to O. crenata under the field and controlled experimental conditions. Both hormones were tested on two contrasting faba bean genotypes: Giza 843 (partially resistant to O. crenata) and Lobab (susceptible) at three different application methods (seed soaking, foliar spray, and the combination of both seed soaking and foliar spray). Soaking seeds in SA or IAA provided the highest protection levels reaching ~75% compared to the untreated control plants. Both...
