Induction of oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation in rats chronically exposed to cypermethrin through dermal application
Rajinder Raina, Pawan K. Verma, N. K. Pankaj, Shahid Prawez* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 3 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 3호 12 257-259 (3 pages)
Present study was undertaken to study the effect of cypermethrin on oxidative stress after chronic dermal application. The insecticide was applied dermally at 50 mg/kg body weight in different groups of Wistar rats of either sex weighing 150∼200 g. Significant (p < 0.05) increase in catalase activity was observed after 30 days of exposure. However, the superoxide dismutase activity declined significantly after 60 days of exposure. The activity of glutathione peroxidase and blood... -
A novel b-glucan produced by Paenibacillus polymyxa JB115 induces nitric oxide production in RAW264.7 macrophages
Zhi-Qiang Chang, Joong-Su Lee, Mi-Hyun Hwang, Joo-Heon Hong, Hee-Kyoung Jung, Sam-Pin Lee, Seung-Chun Park* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 2호 12 165-168 (4 pages)
The effect of extracellular b-(1→3), (1→6)-glucan, produced by Paenibacillus polymyxa JB115, on nitric oxide (NO) production in RAW264.7 macrophages was investigated. b-glucan induced the production of NO by RAW264.7 macrophages in a concentration- and time-dependent manner. Moreover, b-glucan stimulation increased the mRNA expression of iNOS, COX-2 and IL-6 in RAW264.7 macrophages in a concentration-dependent manner. -
The role of Bcl-xL and nuclear factor-kB in the effect of taxol on the viability of dendritic cells
Mi-Hyoung Kim, Hong-Gu Joo* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 2호 2 99-103 (5 pages)
Taxol has been used effectively in cancer therapies. Our previous study demonstrated that taxol induced altered maturation and improved viability of dendritic cells (DCs). However, the effects of taxol on DC viability have not been fully elucidated. In the present study, flow cytometric analyses revealed that taxol treatment significantly increased the number of viable DCs and the expression levels of a representative anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-xL. Furthermore, mobilization of the p65 subunit of... -
The inhibitory effect of quercitrin gallate on iNOS expression induced by lipopolysaccharide in Balb/c mice

expression that occurred in response to treatment with LPS were significantly attenuated in response to QGR pretreatment. Histologically, LPS induced the infiltration of polymorphonuclear neutrophils in portal veins and sinusoids and caused the formation of a large number of necrotic cells; however, pretreatment with QGR attenuated these LPS induced effects. Taken together, these results indicate that QGR inhibits iNOS expression in vivo as well as in vitro and has antiinflammatory potentials. -
Effect of dihydrotestosterone on mouse embryonic stem cells exposed to H2O2-induced oxidative stress

the phosphorylation of p38 MAPK, SAPK/JNK and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kB), but DHT blocked these effects. Moreover, H2O2 decreased DNA synthesis and the levels of cell cycle regulatory proteins [cyclin D1, cyclin E, cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) 2, and CDK 4]. These effects of H2O2 were inhibited by pretreatment with DHT. In conclusion, DHT may partially prevent H2O2-induced cell injury through inhibition of ROS and ROS-induced activation of p38 MAPK, SAPK/JNK and NF-kB in mouse ES cells. -
Immunohistochemical identification and quantitative analysis of cytoplasmic Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase in mouse organogenesis
Jung-Min Yon, In-Jeoung Baek, Se-Ra Lee, Mi-Ra Kim, Beom Jun Lee, Young Won Yun, Sang-Yoon Nam 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2008, 제 9권 제 3호 2 233-240 (8 pages)
Cytoplasmic Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD1) is an antioxidant enzyme that converts superoxide to hydrogen peroxide in cells. Its spatial distribution matches that of superoxide production, allowing it to protect cells from oxidative stress. SOD1 deficiencies result in embryonic lethality and a wide range of pathologies in mice, but little is known about normal SOD1 protein expression in developing embryos. In this study, the expression pattern of SOD1 was investigated in post-implantation... -
Tactics of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis for intracellular survival in mononuclear phagocytes
Seng-Ryong Woo, Charles J. Czuprynski* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2008, 제 9권 제 1호 1 1-8 (8 pages)
Johne's disease is a condition that refers to chronic granulomatous enteritis in ruminants. It is believed that survival and replication of Mycobacterium (M.) paratuberculosis in mononuclear phagocytes plays an important role in the pathogenesis of Johne's disease. However, it is not clear how M. paratuberculosis survives for long time periods in mononuclear phagocytes, nor is it clear which factors trigger multiplication of these bacilli and result in the development of Johne's disease.... -
Relative biological effectiveness of fast neutrons for apoptosis in mouse hair follicles
Hae-June Lee, Sung-Ho Kim* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2007, 제 8권 제 4호 4 335-340 (6 pages)
This study compared the effects of high linear energy transfer (LET) fast neutrons on the induction of apoptosis in the hair follicles of ICR mice with those of low LET Co ■-rays. The changes that occurred from 0 to 24 h after exposing the mice to either 2 Gy of ■-rays (2 Gy/min) or 0.8 Gy of neutrons (94 mGy/min, 35 MeV) were examined. The maximum frequency was found at 12 h (■- rays) or 8 h (neutrons) after irradiation. The mice that received 0-8 Gy of ■-rays or 0-1.6 Gy of neutrons were... -
Transplantation of canine umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells in experimentally induced spinal cord injured dogs

대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2007, 제 8권 제 3호 12 275-282 (8 pages)
This study was to determine the effects of allogenic umbilical cord blood (UCB)-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and recombinant methionyl human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (rmhGCSF) on a canine spinal cord injury model after balloon compression at the first lumbar vertebra. Twenty-five adult mongrel dogs were assigned to five groups according to treatment after a spinal cord injury: no treatment (CN); saline treatment (CP); rmhGCSF treatment (G); UCB-MSCs treatment (UCB-MSC);... -

cause developmental toxicity and carcinogenic effects. BPA may have physiological activity through estrogen receptor (ER) -α and -β, which are expressed in the central nervous system. We previously found that exposure of BPA to immature mice resulted in behavioral alternation, suggesting that overexposure of BPA could be neurotoxic. In this study, we further investigated the molecular neurotoxic mechanisms of BPA. BPA increased vulnerability (decrease of cell viability and differentiation, and...
