involved in peripheral sudomotor sensitivity. The quantitative sudomotor axon reflex test (QSART) measures sympathetic C fiber function after iontophoresed ACh evokes a measurable reliable sweat response. The QSART, at 2 mA for 5 min with 10% ACh, was applied to determine the directly activated (DIR) and axon reflex-mediated (AXR) sweating responses during ACh iontophoresis. The AXR sweat onset-time by the axon reflex was 1.50±0.32 min and 1.84±0.46 min before acclimatization in July and after... -
Influence of Ketamine on Catecholamine Secretion in the Perfused Rat Adrenal Medulla

(a cytoplasmic Ca2+-ATPase inhibitor, 10ՌM) were significantly reduced, respectively. Interestingly, thiopental sodium (100ՌM) also caused the inhibitory effects on the CA secretory responses evoked by ACh, high K+, DMPP, McN-A-343, veratridine, Bay-K-8644, and cyclopiazonic acid. Collectively, these experimental results demonstrate that ketamine inhibits the CA secretion evoked by stimulation of cholinergic (both nicotinic and muscarinic) receptors and the membrane depolarization... -

in the FRK gene region were selected and analyzed. The body mass index (BMI) was calculated, and biochemical data (systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, hemoglobin A1C, triglyceride, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein, and low density lipoprotein) of blood sample from each subject were also measured. One hundred fifty five healthy control and 204 overweight/obesity subjects were recruited. Genotype frequencies of six SNPs [rs6568920 (+8391G>A), rs3756772 (+56780A>G),... -
Roles of Dopaminergic D1 and D2 Receptors in Catecholamine Release from the Rat Adrenal Medulla
YoungJooBaek, YooSeongSeo, DongYoonLim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 12 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2008, Vol.12 No.1 3 13-24 (12 pages)
The aim of the present study was designed to establish comparatively the inhibitory effects of D1-like and D2-like dopaminergic receptor agonists, SKF81297 and R(-)-TNPA on the release of catecholamines (CA) evoked by cholinergic stimulation and membrane depolarization from the isolated perfused model of the rat adrenal medulla. SKF81297 (30ՌM) and R-(-)-TNPA (30ՌM) perfused into an adrenal vein for 60 min, produced great inhibition in the CA secretory responses evoked by ACh... -
Inhibitory Effects of an Aqueous Extract of Gynura procumbens on Human Mesangial Cell Proliferation

Gynura procumbens (Lour.) Merr. has been used in some parts of Southeast Asia as a folk medicine to treat kidney diseases, diabetes mellitus, and hyperlipidemia. The present work was undertaken to prove the mechanisms of G. procumbens in the management of glomerular diseases. We investigated the effect of an aqueous extract of G. procumbens on cell proliferation, DNA synthesis, and the expressions of TGF-β1, PDGF-BB, CDK1, CDK2, and CDK4 in fetal bovine serum-activated human mesangial cells... -
Oxidatvive Stress in Rat Model of Preeclampsia and Clinical Correlates
Yuk-JaeChang, Won-KiLee, Hyung-GunKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2007, Vol.11 No.3 8 129-133 (5 pages)
There are growing evidences suggesting a pivotal role of oxidative stress in the pathophysiology of preeclampsia. We investigated oxidative stress in the rat model of preeclampsia, and in clinical cases. Pregnant female rats were injected intraperitoneally with deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA) and given 0.9% saline as drinking water during their pregnancy. We assessed plasma F2-isoprostane (8-iso-PGF2α) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in a rat model, and the same markers in the plasma of maternal... -
Effects of R. Glutinosa and E. Senticosus on Postmenopausal Osteoporosis

In this study, we investigated the therapeutic effects of a novel formulation of low-dose calcium and vitamin D3, blended with Rehmannia glutinosa Libosch and Eleutherococcus senticosus Max (RE), in postmenopausal women. The controls were given either a placebo or high dose calcium and vitamin D3 (CaD). Bone mineral density (BMD) in the L2-3 lumber spines and femur regions was assessed, and serum osteocalcin, bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (BALP), and cross-linked N-telopeptide... -

of perfusion pressure, aortic flow, coronary flow, and cardiac output under ischemic conditions. In addition, hemodynamics (except heart rate) of the PT-treated group was significantly recovered 60 min after reperfusion compared to the control group (systolic aortic pressure: 83.3% vs. 64.9%, aortic flow volume: 69.5% vs. 48.7%, coronary flow volume: 77.7% vs. 58.4%, and cardiac output: 71.6% vs. 51.2%, p<0.01). As for the underlying mechanism, PT significantly prevented intracellular calcium... -

The present study was designed to establish comparatively the inhibitory effects of cilnidipine (CNP), nifedipine (NIF), and ω-conotoxin GVIA (CTX) on the release of CA evoked by cholinergic stimulation and membrane depolarization from the isolated perfused model of the rat adrenal medulla. CNP (3 μM), NIF (3μM), and CTX (3μM) perfused into an adrenal vein for 60 min produced greatly inhibition in CA secretory responses evoked by ACh (5.32⁓103 M), DMPP (104 M for 2 min),... -

protective effect on the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD). There was no significant difference in the contents of reduced glutathione (GSH) and catalase activity between ischemia-reperfusion (IR) and ROSI treated IR hearts. Although ROSI had no effect on hemodynamic factor, it had effect on antioxidant activity. Our results indicate that ROSI provides partial beneficial effects by inhibiting lipid peroxidation and/or recovering normal level of SOD activity in the ischemic reperfused heart.
