The effects of posterior retraction on the displacement of the maxilla
The Korean Journal of Orthodontics 13 Pages
The Korean Journal of Orthodontics 1996, 제 26권 제 6호 5 691-703 (13 pages)
A point and prosthion were moved posteriorly and inferiorly and pterygornaxillary fissure was moved posteriorly and superiorly. Clockwise rotation of maxilla occurred when retraction force was applied. 3. The degree of clockwise rotation of maxilla was greatest when the force was applied 23° upward to the occlusal plane and was least when the force was applied 23° downward to the occlusal plane. 4. Large tensile stress appeared in maxillary first molar and alveolar bone and the infraorbital... -
A longitudinal positional changes of hyoid bone in Koreans with normal occlusion
The Korean Journal of Orthodontics 13 Pages

radiographs obtained on twenty six males and twenty two females over the period from 8.7 years to 16.7 years of age in average. The results of this study might be summarized as follows: • The mean value and standard deviation of each measurement were obtained in each age and gender. • The hyoid bone tended to positioned forwardly in female at the age of 12.7, 14.7, and 16.7 years of age as compared with male. • The hyoid bone positioned more downwardly in male than in female. -
Reduction of long-term potentiation at Schaffer collateral-CA1 synapses in the rat hippocampus at the acute stage of vestibular compensation
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages

at 1 month after UL. Compared with sham-operated animals, there was a significant reduction of LTP induction in the hippocampus at 1 day and 1 week after UL. However, LTP induction levels in the CA1 area of the hippocampus also returned to those of sham-operated animals 1 month following UL. These data suggest that unilateral injury of the peripheral vestibular end organs results in a transient deficit in synaptic plasticity in the CA1 hippocampal area at acute stages of vestibular compensation. -
Ursolic Acid-Induced Elevation of Serum Irisin Augments Muscle Strength During Resistance Training in Men
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages

of 5 sets of 26 exercises, with 10∼15 repetitions at 60∼80% of 1 repetition maximum and a 60∼90-s rest interval between sets, performed 6 times/week. UA or placebo was orally ingested as 1 capsule 3 times/day for 8 weeks. The following factors were measured pre-and post-intervention: body composition, insulin, insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), irisin, and skeletal muscle strength. Body fat percentage was significantly decreased (p<0.001) in the RT+UA group, despite body weight, body mass... -
Effects of Fetal Mesencephalic Cell Grafts on the Intrastriatal 6-hydroxydoapmine Lesioned Rats

in the grafted striatum, and significantly ameliorated symptomatic motor behavior of the animals, as determined by apomorphine-induced rotation. Furthermore, in substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc), the numbers of TH cells and fibers were markedly restored. Dopamine content of ipsilateral SNc was close to that of contralateral SNc (91.9⁑9.8%) in the transplanted animals, while the ratio was approximately 32% in sham-grafted animals. These results indicate that grafted cells restored... -
Responses of Inferior Olive Neurons to Stimulation of Semicircular Canals. II. Vertical Semicircular Canalss
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages

to investigate the vertical vestibular information transmitted through the vestibulo-olivo-cerebellar climbing fiber pathway. The extracellular recording was made in 74 neurons of the IO of cats, while animals were sinusoidally rotated. Most of vestibularly activated IO neurons responded to the vertical rotation (roll) test and were found in or near the β subnuclei (IOβ). The vestibular IO neurons were activated, when the animal was rotated to the side contralateral to the recording site. In... -
Neuronal Activity of the Vestibular Nuclei Following Acute Hypotension in Rats

of cFL protein increased significantly proportionately to the reduction of blood pressure. The unilateral labyrinthectomized animals with acute hypotension produced expression of cFL neurons in contralateral vestibular nuclei to the lesion side, but not in ipsilateral vestibular nuclei. However, cFL protein was not expressed in bilateral vestibular nuclei after acute hypotension in bilateral labyrinthectomized animals. These results suggest that the peripheral vestibular receptors might play a... -
Responses of Inferior Olive Neurons to Stimulation of Semicircular Canals
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages

for the fiber connection between vestibular nuclei and inferior olivary (IO) complex, the transmission of vestibular information through the vestibulo- olivo-cerebellar climbing fiber pathway has not been physiologically established. The aims of the present study were to investigate whether there are IO neurons specifically responding to horizontal rotation and also in which subregions of IO complex these vestibularly-activated neurons are located. The extracellular recording was made in 68 IO... -
Temporal Changes in Neuronal Activity of the Bilateral Medial Vestibular Nuclei Following Unilateral Labyrinthectomy in Rats

pentobarbital sodium anesthesia (30 mg/kg, i.p.). Gain (spikes/s/deg/s) and phase (in degrees) were determined from the neuronal activity induced by sinusoidal head rotation with 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 Hz. The mean resting activity before ULX was 16.7⁑8.6 spikes/s in type I neurons (n=67, M⁑SD) and 14.5⁑8.4 spikes/s in type II neurons (n=43). The activities of ipsilateral type I and contralateral type II neurons to the lesion side decreased markedly till 24 hr post-op, and a...
