Isolation and phylogenetic analysis of hemagglutinin gene of H9N2 influenza viruses from chickens in South China from 2012 to 2013
Han-Qin Shen, Zhuan-Qiang Yan, Fan-Gui Zeng, Chang-Tao Liao, Qing-Feng Zhou, Jian-Ping Qin, Qing-Mei Xie, Ying-Zuo Bi, Feng Chen 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2015, 제 16권 제 3호 9 317-324 (8 pages)
As part of our ongoing influenza surveillance program in South China, 19 field strains of H9N2 subtype avian influenza viruses (AIVs) were isolated from dead or diseased chicken flocks in Guangdong province, South China, between 2012 and 2013. Hemagglutinin (HA) genes of these strains were sequenced and analyzed and phylogenic analysis showed that 12 of the 19 isolates belonged to the lineage h9.4.2.5, while the other seven belonged to h9.4.2.6. Specifically, we found that all of the viruses... -
Extent of Mycobacterium bovis infection in dairy cattle herds subject to partial culling as determined by an interferon-gamma assay
Sungmo Je, Un-chang Yeo, Taeksun Song, Ki-cheol Kim, Sung-Yun Park, Man-Jung Kim, Sang-Nae Cho* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages

and an additional six were positive based on a polymerase chain reaction-based test for M. bovis. Therefore, the IFN-γ assay has the potential to serve as a specific and sensitive test for M. bovis infection in dairy cattle. Further, the results indicated that a substantial portion of SIDT-negative animals in herds with previous BTB outbreaks were actually infected with M. bovis. Accordingly, the present selective-culling strategy may require modifications to include this more sensitive assay. -
Equine hyperimmune serum protects mice against Clostridium difficile spore challenge
Weiwei Yan, Kang-Soon Shin, Shih-Jon Wang, Hua Xiang, Thomas Divers, Sean McDonough, James Bowman, Anne Rowlands, Bruce Akey, Hu 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2014, 제 15권 제 2호 11 249-258 (10 pages)
mice treated with the antiserum lost less weight without any sign of illness and regained weight back to a normal range more rapidly compared to the control group when challenged orally with 10 C. difficile spores 1 day after serum injection. These results indicate that intravenous delivery of hyperimmune serum can protect animals from C. difficile challenge in a dose-dependent manner. Hence, immunotherapy may be a promising prophylactic strategy for preventing C. difficile infection in horses. -
Emergency euthanasia of cattle challenged with Escherichia coli O157:H7 - A case study for evaluating the response to an infectious disease outbreak
Brandon H. Gilroyed, Tim Reuter, John P. Kastelic, Tim A. McAllister* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2013, 제 14권 제 1호 16 103-106 (4 pages)
In the event of an infectious disease outbreak in cattle, carcasses must be disposed of in a rapid and contained manner. This brief communication details injection of a barbiturate to euthanize cattle inoculated with Escherichia coli O157:H7 followed by carcass composting in a manner that prevents the spread of infectious agents. -
Inhibitory effects of interleukin-10 plasmid DNA on the development of atopic dermatitis-like skin lesions in NC/Nga mice
Bock-Gie Jung, Sun-Ju Cho, Jae-Hyung Ko, Bong-Joo Lee* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 3호 6 213-220 (8 pages)
Interleukin (IL)-10 exerts potent anti-inflammatory effects by suppression of both T-help (Th) 1 and Th2 cells. Previous studies have reported that IL-10 can ameliorate various inflammatory disorders. The present study was performed to examine whether IL-10 plasmid DNA could suppress development of atopic dermatitis (AD)-like skin lesions in NC/Nga mice, as an initial step towards the development of an appliance for use in dogs with AD. Intradermal injection of IL-10 plasmid DNA markedly... -
An inactivated vaccine to control the current H9N2 low pathogenic avian influenza in Korea
Jun Gu Choi, Youn Jeong Lee, *, Yong Joo Kim, Eun Kyoung Lee, Ok Mi Jeong, Haan Woo Sung, Jae Hong Kim, Jun Hun Kwon1 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2008, 제 9권 제 1호 9 67-74 (8 pages)
The H9N2 subtype low pathogenic avian influenza is one of the most prevalent avian diseases worldwide, and was first documented in 1996 in Korea. This disease caused serious economic loss in Korea's poultry industry. In order to develop an oil-based inactivated vaccine, a virus that had been isolated in 2001 (A/chicken/Korea/01310/ 2001) was selected based on its pathogenic, antigenic, and genetic properties. However, in animal experiments, the efficacy of the vaccine was found to be very low... -
BSE situation and establishment of Food Safety Commission in Japan
Takashi Onodera, Chi-Kyeong Kim 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 11 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2006, 제 7권 제 1호 1 1-11 (11 pages)
tissues/wastes and remains of diseased, affected fallen stocks and cohort animals have to be eliminated to prevent BSE invading the human food chain systems. The failure to detect any cohort should never be allowed to occur, and with regular and persistent updating of available stringent records, we are at least adopting the correct and useful approach as a reawakening strategy to securing food safety. In this perspective, traceability based on a National Identification System is required. -
Induction of castration by immunization of male dogs with recombinant gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)-canine distemper virus (CDV) T helper cell epitope p35
Mi-Jeong Jung, Young-Chan Moon, Ik-Hyun Cho, Jung-Yong Yeh, Sun-Eui Kim, Wha-Seok Chang, Seung-Young Park, Chang-Seon Song, Hwi- 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2005, 제 6권 제 1호 3 21-24 (4 pages)
Immunocastration is a considerable alternative to a surgical castration method especially in male animal species for alleviating unwanted male behaviors and characteristics. Induction of high titer of antibody specific for gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) correlates with the regression of testes. Fusion proteins composed of canine GnRH and T helper (Th) cell epitope p35 originated from canine distemper virus (CDV) F protein and goat rotavirus VP6 protein were produced in E. coli. When these... -

and proteins involved in eliciting protective host responses are crucial for the development of new control strategy. This review will highlight recent developments in coccidiosis research with special emphasis on the utilization of cutting edge techniques in molecular/cell biology, immunology, and functional genomics in coccidia vaccine development. The information will enhance our understanding of host-parasite biology, mucosal immunology, and host and parasite genomics in the development of a... -
SR144528 as Inverse Agonist of CB2 Cannabinoid Receptor
Man-Hee Rhee and Sang-Keun Kim 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2002, 제 3권 제 3호 6 179-184 (6 pages)
It is now well established that several G protein- coupled receptors can signal without agonist stimulation (constitutive receptors). Inverse agonists have been shown to inhibit the activity of such constitutive G protein-coupled receptor signaling. Agonist activation of the G(i/o)-coupled peripheral cannabinoid receptor CB2 normally inhibits adenylyl cyclase type V and stimulates adenylyl cyclase type II. Using transfected COS cells, we show here that application of SR144528, an inverse agonist...
