Effect of immunization routes and protective efficacy of Brucella antigens delivered via Salmonella vector vaccine
Jonathan Lalsiamthara, Gayeon Won, John Hwa Lee 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2018, 제 19권 제 3호 11 416-425 (10 pages)
An anti-Brucella vaccine candidate comprised of purified Brucella lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and a cocktail of four Salmonella Typhimurium (ST)-Brucella vectors was reported previously. Each vector constitutively expressed highly conserved Brucella antigens (rB), viz., lumazine synthase (BLS), proline racemase subunit A, outer membrane protein-19 (Omp19), and Cu-Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD). The present study determined a relative level of protection conferred by each single strain. Upon virulent... -
A two-component signal transduction system contributes to the virulence of Riemerella anatipestifer
Qing Wang, Mianmian Chen, Wei Zhang 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 11 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2018, 제 19권 제 2호 12 260-270 (11 pages)
Similar to other studies of bacterial pathogens, current studies of the pathogenesis of Riemerella anatipestifer (RA) are focused mainly on in vitro culture conditions. To elucidate further the pathogenesis of RA in vivo, bacterial RNA was extracted from overnight tryptic soy broth cultures (in vitro) and from the blood of infected ducks (in vivo) for comparative RNA sequencing analysis. In total, 682 upregulated genes were identified in vivo. Among the upregulated genes, a signal transduction... -
Rapid visual detection of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis by recombinase polymerase amplification combined with a lateral flow dipstick
Guimin Zhao, Hongmei Wang, Peili Hou, Chengqiang He, Hongbin He 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2018, 제 19권 제 2호 10 242-250 (9 pages)
Paratuberculosis (Johne’s disease) is a chronic debilitating disease of domestic and wild ruminants. However, widespread point-of-care testing is infrequent due to the lack of a robust method. The isothermal recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) technique has applied for rapid diagnosis. Herein, RPA combined with a lateral flow dipstick (LFD) assay was developed to estimate DNA from Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis. First, analytical specificity and sensitivity of the RPA-nfo... -
In silico analysis of putative drug and vaccine targets of the metabolic pathways of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae using a subtractive/comparative genomics approach
Biruk T. Birhanu, Seung-Jin Lee, Na-Hye Park, Ju-Beom Song, Seung-Chun Park 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 12 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2018, 제 19권 제 2호 5 188-199 (12 pages)
Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae is a Gram-negative bacterium that resides in the respiratory tract of pigs and causes porcine respiratory disease complex, which leads to significant losses in the pig industry worldwide. The incidence of drug resistance in this bacterium is increasing; thus, identifying new protein/gene targets for drug and vaccine development is critical. In this study, we used an in silico approach, utilizing several databases including the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and... -
Evaluation of a fixed-dose combination of benazepril and pimobendan in dogs with congestive heart failure: a randomized non-inferiority clinical trial
Jonathan N. King, Atsushi Hirakawa, Junko Sonobe, Hiroshi Otaki, Nobuhiro Sakakibara, Wolfgang Seewald, Sophie Forster 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 12 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2018, 제 19권 제 1호 15 117-128 (12 pages)
A fixed-dose combination tablet of benazepril and pimobendan (Fortekor Plus; Elanco Animal Health) was tested in dogs with congestive heart failure (CHF) caused by myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) in a three-arm, masked, randomized, non-inferiority clinical trial in Japan. The test group (n = 34) received Fortekor Plus twice daily. Two control groups received registered formulations of benazepril (Fortekor; Elanco Animal Health) and pimobendan (Vetmedin; Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica)... -
Piglet colibacillosis diagnosis based on multiplex polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemistry of paraffin-embedded tissues
C?ntia De Lorenzo, Caroline P. de Andrade, Ver?nica S. L. Machado, Matheus V. Bianchi, Veronica M. Rolim, Raquel A. S. Cruz, Dav 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2018, 제 19권 제 1호 5 27-33 (7 pages)
Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) causes diarrhea in pigs, referred to as colibacillosis. The aim of this study was to optimize multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) analyses of paraffin-embedded material to detect pathogenic E. coli strains causing colibacillosis in pigs. Multiplex PCR was optimized for fimbriae (F18, F4, F6, F5, and F41) and toxins (types A and B heat-stable toxins [STaP and STb], heat-labile toxin [LT], and type 2 Shiga toxin [STx2e]),... -
Are pulmonary hemostasis and fibrinolysis out of balance in equine chronic pneumopathies?
Ann Kristin Barton, Caroline Wirth, Angelika Bondzio, Ralf Einspanier, Heidrun Gehlen 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2017, 제 18권 제 3호 12 349-357 (9 pages)
a lower value in controls (median 0.0024 g/L) than in horses with chronic pneumopathies (median 0.0052 g/L), in particular, those with RAO (median 0.0062 g/L). Fibrinogen concentration was positively correlated with percentage of neutrophils in BALF (rs = 0.377, p = 0.004). SAA concentrations were low; 65.5% of samples were below the detection limit. D-dimer concentrations were also low and quantifiable concentrations were only obtained after ultrafiltration and only in RAO (median 0.1 mg/L). In... -
Phenotypic and genotypic antimicrobial resistance and virulence genes of Salmonella enterica isolated from pet dogs and cats
Songsak Srisanga, Sunpetch Angkititrakul, Patcharee Sringam, Phuong T. Le Ho, An T. T. Vo, Rungtip Chuanchuen 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2017, 제 18권 제 3호 3 273-281 (9 pages)
Salmonella enterica isolates (n = 122), including 32 serotypes from 113 dogs and 9 cats, were obtained from household dogs (n = 250) and cats (n = 50) during 2012?2015. The isolates were characterized by serotyping, antimicrobial resistance phenotyping and genotyping, and virulence gene screening. Serovars Weltevreden (15.6%) and Typhimurium (13.9%) were the most common. The majority (43%) of the isolates were multidrug resistant. The dog isolates (12.3%) harbored class 1 integrons, of which the...
