Small-breed dogs (n = 168; weight < 15 kg) diagnosed with myxomatous mitral valve degeneration based on a routine clinical examination, radiology, electrocardiography, and echocardiography at the Seoul National University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital were included in this study. Survival periods were determined, and there were significant differences in survival rates among the three International Small Animal Cardiac Health Council classes. The mean follow-up period was 14.3 ± 12.1... -
Effects of neural stem cells and 5-fluorocytosine in canine metastatic lung tumor
Yawon Hwang, Dongwook Kim, Dongwoo Chang, Byeongwoo Ahn, Yun-Bae Kim, Gonhyung Kim 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2017, 제 18권 제 2호 17 257-260 (4 pages)
This is the first case report to describe the tumor regressive effect of systemic human neural stem cell (NSC)/5-fluorocytosine (5-FC) therapy on canine metastatic lung tumor. The therapeutic effects appeared approximately two weeks after 5-FC administration. Thoracic radiographs revealed a reduced number of lung nodules and decreased nodule size. However, there were no significant antitumor effects on primary lesions in abdominal organs. In conclusion, human NSC/5-FC prodrug therapy can secure... -
Diagnostic imaging features of normal anal sacs in dogs and cats
Yechan Jung, Eunseok Jeong, Sangjun Park, Jimo Jeong, Ul Soo Choi, Min-Su Kim, Namsoo Kim, Kichang Lee 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2016, 제 17권 제 3호 9 331-335 (5 pages)
This study was conducted to provide normal reference features for canine and feline anal sacs using ultrasound, low-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and radiograph contrast as diagnostic imaging tools. A total of ten clinically normal beagle dogs and eight clinically normally cats were included. General radiography with contrast, ultrasonography and low-field MRI scans were performed. The visualization of anal sacs, which are located at distinct sites in dogs and cats, is possible with a... -
Discal cysts of the cervical spine in two dogs
Byung-Jae Kang, Yechan Jung, Sangjun Park, Kichang Lee 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 3 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2015, 제 16권 제 4호 19 543-545 (3 pages)
Discal cysts, which lie directly over intervertebral discs, are rare. Two old dogs with tetraparesis were referred to our facility. In both animals, magnetic resonance imaging revealed intraspinal extradural cystic mass lesions that were dorsal to degenerative intervertebral discs at the C3?C4 level. These lesions had low signal intensity on T1-weighted images, and high signal intensity on T2-weighted images. A ventral slot approach was used to perform surgical decompression, after which the... -
Quantitative CT assessment of bone mineral density in dogs with hyperadrenocorticism
Donghoon Lee, Youngjae Lee, Wooshin Choi, Jinhwa Chang, Ji-Houn Kang, Ki-Jeong Na, Dong-Woo Chang 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 12 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2015, 제 16권 제 4호 18 531-542 (12 pages)
Canine hyperadrenocorticism (HAC) is one of the most common causes of general osteopenia. In this study, quantitative computed tomography (QCT) was used to compare the bone mineral densities (BMD) between 39 normal dogs and 8 dogs with HAC (6 pituitary-dependent hyperadrenocorticism [PDH]; pituitary dependent hyperadrenocorticism, 2 adrenal hyperadrenocorticism [ADH]; adrenal dependent hyperadrenocorticism) diagnosed through hormonal assay. A computed tomogaraphy scan of the 12th thoracic to 7th... -
Total hip replacement in two dogs with unsuccessful femoral head ostectomy
Su-Young Heo, Jae-Won Seol, Hae-Beom Lee 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2015, 제 16권 제 1호 18 131-134 (4 pages)
An English setter (case 1) and a Tibetan mastiff (case 2) presented with intermittent weight-bearing lameness on the right hind limb when trotting. The dogs had a history of femoral head and neck ostectomy (FHNO). Orthopedic examination revealed pain and crepitus on the right hip joint. The dogs underwent total hip replacement (THR). At the 2-year (case 1) and 1-year (case 2) follow-up, both dogs had resumed normal activity without lameness. The muscle mass and range... -
Induction of antibody and interferon-γ production in mice immunized with virus-like particles of swine hepatitis E virus
Young-Jo Song, Woo-Jung Park, Seul-Kee Lee, Joong-Bok Lee, Seung-Yong Park, Chang-Seon Song, Sang-Won Lee, Kun-Ho Seo, Young-Sun 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2014, 제 15권 제 4호 15 575-578 (4 pages)
Virus-like particles (VLPs) composed of the truncated capsid protein of swine hepatitis E virus (HEV) were developed and immune responses of mice immunized with the VLPs were evaluated. IgG titers specific for the capsid protein of swine HEV were significantly higher for all groups of mice immunized with the VLPs than those of the negative control mice. Splenocytes from mice immunized with the VLPs also produced significantly greater quantities of interferon (IFN)-γ than interleukin (IL)-4 and... -
Sensitization rates of causative allergens for dogs with atopic dermatitis: detection of canine allergen-specific IgE
Min-Hee Kang, Ha-Jung Kim, Hye-Jin Jang, Hee-Myung Park 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2014, 제 15권 제 4호 14 545-550 (6 pages)
Allergen-specific IgE serology tests became commercially available in the 1980s. Since then these tests have been widely used to diagnose and treat allergic skin diseases. However, the relationship between a positive reaction and disease occurrence has been controversial. The purpose of this study was to evaluate allergens using a serologic allergy test in dogs with atopic dermatitis (AD). Dogs clinically diagnosed with AD (n=101) were tested using an allergen-specific IgE immunoassay. Among the... -

Tae-Hyoun Kim, Dong-Su Kim, Ju-Hee Han, Seo-Na Chang, Kyung-Sul Kim, Seung-Hyeok Seok, Dong-Jae Kim, Jong-Hwan Park, Jae-Hak Par 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2014, 제 15권 제 4호 13 583-586 (4 pages)
Corynebacterium (C.) bovis infection in nude mice causes hyperkeratosis and weight loss and has been reported worldwide but not in Korea. In 2011, nude mice from an animal facility in Korea were found to have white flakes on their dorsal skin. Histopathological testing revealed that the mice had hyperkeratosis and Gram-positive bacteria were found in the skin. We identified isolated bacteria from the skin lesions as C. bovis using PCR and 16S rRNA sequencing. To the best of our knowledge, this... -
