Neuronal Activity of the Vestibular Nuclei Following Acute Hypotension in Rats
ByungRimPark, MinSunKim, KumHyunBaik, MoonYoungLee, MyungAeChoi, JaeHyoLee 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.4 5 199-206 (8 pages)
The role of peripheral vestibular receptors in acute hypotension was investigated in anesthetized rats. Acute hypotension was induced by either intravenous infusion of sodium nitroprusside (SNP) or by experimental hemorrhage, and electrical activity and expression of cFos-like immunoreactive (cFL) protein were measured in the medial vestibular nuclei (MVN). Blood pressure decreased proportionately to the does of intravenous SNP and to the volume of the hemorrhage. Blood pressure decreased 10,... -

signals of vertical rotation (roll), while a small number (13/46) of recorded cells were activated by horizontal canal signal (yaw). Regardless of yaw-sensitive or roll-sensitive, vestibular IO neurons were excited, when the animal was rotated to the side contralateral to the recording side. The gain and excitation phase were very similar to otolithic or vertical-canal responses. Histologic identification of recording sites showed that most of vestibular IO neurons were located in β subnucleus.... -
Phytoestrogen-Induced Phosphorylation of MAP Kinase in Osteoblasts is Mediated by Membrane Estrogen Receptor

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.3 7 165-170 (6 pages)
We have previously demonstrated that phytoestrogens isolated from safflower seeds significantly attenuated bone loss in ovariectomized rats, and directly stimulated proliferation and differentiation of cultured osteoblastic cells. In an attempt to elucidate underlying cellular mechanisms, in the present study we investigated effects of 17β-estradiol (E2) and phytoestrogens such as matairesinol and acacetin, a type of lignan and flavonoid, respectively, on activation of mitogen activated... -
Increase of Intracellular Ca2+ Concentration Induced by Lysophosphatidylcholine in Murine Aortic Endothelial Cells

Effects of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL), l-α-stearoyl-lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC), on intracellular Ca2 concentration were examined in mouse endothelial cells by measuring intracellular Ca2 concentration ([Ca2]i) with fura 2-AM and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). LPC increased [Ca2]i under the condition of 1.5 mM [Ca2]o but did not show any effect under the nominally Ca2-free condition. Even after the store... -
Noradrenergic Modulation of Spontaneous Inhibitory Postsynaptic Currents in the Hypothalamic Paraventricular Nucleus
LongHwaLee, WoneeChong, KihoLee, JinBongPark, PanDongRyu 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.2 2 71-80 (10 pages)
Previous studies have suggested that brain stem noradrenergic inputs differentially modulate neurons in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN). Here, we compared the effects of norepinephrine (NE) on spontaneous GABAergic inhibitory postsynaptic currents (sIPSCs) in identified PVN neurons using slice patch technique. In 17 of 18 type I neurons, NE (30∼100μM) reversibly decreased sIPSC frequency to 41⁑7% of the baseline value (4.4⁑0.8 Hz, p<0.001). This effect was blocked by yohimbine... -
Role of Gap Junctions in the Endothelium-Dependent Hyperpolarization of Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells
YoshimichiYamamoto, MeganF.Klemm, HikaruHashitani, RichardJ.Lang, TsuyoshiSoji, HikaruSuzuki 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2001, Vol.5 No.1 1 1-8 (8 pages)
Hyperpolarization of arterial smooth muscle by acetylcholine is considered to be produced by the release of an unidentified chemical substance, an endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF). Several chemicals have been proposed as the candidate for EDHF. However, none of them fulfil completely the nature and property of EDHF. Ultrastructural observation with electron microscope reveals that in some arteries, gap junctions are formed between endothelial and smooth muscle cells. In small... -
Comparative Effects of PKB-α and PKC-ζ on the Phosphorylation of GLUT4-Containing Vesicles in Rat Adipocytes
Jong-SikHah 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages

but not PKB-α. From the above results, it is clear that PKC-ζ interacts with GLUT4-containing vesicles and it phosphorylates GLUT4 protein directly but PKB-α does not interact with GLUT4, suggesting that insulin-elicited signals that pass through PI3-kinase subsequently diverge into two independent pathways, an Akt pathway and a PKC-ζ pathway, and that later pathway contributes, at least in part, insulin stimulation of GLUT4 translocation in adipocytes via a direct GLUT4 phosphorylation. -
Relatoinship between Sarcoplasmic Reticular Calcium Release and Na+-Ca2+ Exchange in the Rat Myocardial Contraction

Suppressive role of Na-Ca2 exchange in myocardial tension generation was examined in the negative frequency-force relationship (FFR) of electric field stimulated left atria (LA) from postnatal developing rat heart and in the whole-cell clamped adult rat ventricular myocytes with high concentration of intracellular Ca2 buffer (14 mM EGTA). LA twitch amplitudes, which were suppressed by cyclopiazonic acid in a postnatal age-dependent manner, elicited frequency-dependent and... -
Developmental Changes of Gustatory Neurons in Nucleus of Solitary Tract in Rats

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.3 1 169-175 (7 pages)
To learn the developmental changes in intrinsic electrophysiological properties of the second order taste neurons, whole cell recordings from the developing nucleus of the solitary tract neurons were done in brainstem slices of postnatal rats. Rats aged from postnatal 0 to 21 days (P0-P21) were used, being divided into 3 age groups: postnatal first week (P0-P7 days), second week (P8-P14 days), and third week (P15-P21 days). Slices containing gustatory NTS were cut horizontally in the thickness... -
The Role of Lipid Peroxidation and Glutathione on the Glycochenodeoxycholic Acid-Induced Cell Death in Primary Cultured Rat Hepatocytes

Intracellular accumulation of bile acids in the hepatocytes during cholestasis is thought to be pathogenic in cholestatic liver diseases. The objective of this study was to determine the role of lipid peroxidation and glutathione on the bile acid-induced hepatic cell death mechanism in primary cultured rat hepatocytes. To induce hepatic cell death, we incubated primary cultured rat hepatocytes with glycochenodeoxycholic acid (GCDC; 0∼400μM) for 3 hours. In electron microscopic examination and...
