industry worldwide. In this study, we attempted to generate and characterize a panel of stable BHK cell lines that constitutively express the nucleocapsid (N) protein of type 1 or type 2 PRRSV. The established BHK cell lines were found to react well with N-specific antibodies as well as the hyperimmune serum of pigs raised against each genotype of PRRSV. Taken together, the data implicate a potential usefulness for the newly generated stable cell lines as a diagnostic reagent for PRRSV serology. -

significant (p < 0.05) in RV and MKTTn, as compared with buffered peptone water (BPW) or phosphate-buffered saline. The inhibitory effect of the selective enrichment media was successfully removed by using a modified DNA extraction, PrepMan Ultra Reagent with an additional washing step or the DNeasy Tissue Kit. In three experiments, when applied to detection of Salmonella Enteritidis in steamed pork, the real-time PCR coupled with single 24 h enrichment with BPW performed better than double 48... -
Effect of storage conditions on prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time and fibrinogen concentration on canine plasma samples
Giuseppe Piccione, Stefania Casella, Claudia Giannetto, Elisabetta Giudice 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 2호 5 121-124 (4 pages)
The present study was to assess the effect of storage conditions on prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) and fibrinogen concentration in blood samples of healthy dogs. Thirty-five dogs of various breeds were included in the study. Citrated blood samples were obtained and plasma was divided into four aliquots to assess selected clotting parameters by means of a coagulometer. The first aliquot was analysed within 1 h after collection, while the remaining 3 were... -
Induction of apoptotic lesions in liver and lymphoid tissues and modulation of cytokine mRNA expression by acute exposure to deoxynivalenol in piglets

대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 2호 3 107-113 (7 pages)
Six 1-month-old piglets were intravenously injected with deoxynivalenol (DON) at the concentration of 1 mg/kg body weight, with three pigs each necropsied at 6 and 24 h post-injection (PI) for investigation of hepatotoxicity and immunotoxicity with special attention to apoptotic changes and cytokine mRNA expression. Histopathological examination of the DON-injected pigs revealed systemic apoptosis of lymphocytes in lymphoid tissues and hepatocytes. Apoptosis of lymphocytes and hepatocytes was... -
Ethanol extract of Angelica gigas inhibits croton oil-induced inflammation by suppressing the cyclooxygenase-prostaglandin pathway
Sunhee Shin, Seong Soo Joo, Dongsun Park, Jeong Hee Jeon, Tae Kyun Kim, Jeong Seon Kim, Sung Kyeong Park, Bang Yeon Hwang, *, Yun 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 1호 7 43-50 (8 pages)
The anti-inflammatory effects of an ethanol extract of Angelica gigas (EAG) were investigated in vitro and in vivo using croton oil-induced inflammation models. Croton oil (20 μg/mL) up-regulated mRNA expression of cyclooxygenase (COX)-I and COX-II in the macrophage cell line, RAW 264.7, resulting in the release of high concentrations of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). EAG (1∼10 μg/mL) markedly suppressed croton oil-induced COX-II mRNA expression and PGE2 production. Application of croton oil (5% in... -
Characterization of canine oral papillomavirus by histopathological and genetic analysis in Korea
Ji-Young Yhee, Byung-Joon Kwon, Jong-Hyuk Kim, Chi-Ho Yu, Keum-Soon Im, Sung-Seok Lee, Young-Soo Lyoo, Byung-Joon Chang, Jung-Hy 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 1호 4 21-25 (5 pages)
In August 2008, forty dogs out of 400 developed oral warts in a breeding farm in Korea. Canine oral papilloma infection is a common disease in dogs. However, there has been no report of an outbreak of canine oral papillomavirus (COPV) in a group of dogs or in dog breeding farms in Korea, and the genetic analysis of COPV in Korea has yet to be performed. This study diagnosed canine oral papilloma from the oral samples of these dogs based on histopathological examination and immunohistochemistry.... -
Transcriptional and translational expression of calbindin-D9k in the duodenum, kidney and uterus of a female canine model
Ji-Young Sim, Eui-Man Jung, Yeong-Min Yoo, Kyung-Chul Choi*, Eui-Bae Jeung 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 1호 3 15-19 (5 pages)
Calbindin-D9k (CaBP-9k) is a cytosolic calcium-binding protein expressed in tissues in the intestine, uterus, placenta, kidney, pituitary gland and bone. Its exact function is unknown, but it is considered to regulate intracytoplasmic concentration and transport of free ions (Ca2+). CaBP-9k protein is involved in intestinal calcium absorption in the intestine and in the regulation of myometrial activity by intracellular calcium in the uterus. Renal CaBP-9k protein is expressed at the site of... -
TP53 Polymorphisms allow for genetic sub-grouping of the canine transmissible venereal tumor
Abel Sánchez-Servín, Simón Martínez*, Emilio Córdova-Alarcon, Raúl Fajardo 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 3 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 4호 13 353-355 (3 pages)
The canine transmissible venereal tumor (CTVT) is found mainly in dogs' sexual organs. Currently, it is widely accepted that all samples of CTVT show similar histopathological characteristics and share common genetic alterations. Despite the common genetic origin of CTVT, mutations in the P53 gene have been reported. In this study, we proposed that tumor samples can be genetically grouped using this gene. The presence of different subgroups of CTVT was determined in Mexican dogs using the TP53... -

A porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) was obtained from clinic samples. Genes 5 and 6 encoding for the viral glycoprotein 5 and a membrane protein of the PRRSV designated as HH08 were amplified by reverse transcription-PCR. These sequences were compared with reference sequences derived from different geographical locations. The results indicated that the virus belongs to the North American type rather than European. Comparative analyses of the genetic diversity between...
