Applications of carbon-based materials in solid phase micro-extraction: a review
Jian Guo, Soo-Jin Park, Long-Yue Meng, Xinghua Jin 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.24 2 10-17 (8 pages)
With continuous development in the field of sample preparation technology, solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) has been widely used in analytical chemistry for high extraction efficiency and convenient operation. Different materials lead to different extraction results. Among existing materials, carbon-based materials are still attracting attention from scientists due to their excellent physical and chemical properties as well as their modifiable surfaces, which could enhance the adsorption... -
Adsorption of Nile Blue A from aqueous solution by different nanostructured carbon adsorbents
Shahryar Abbasi, Hadi Noorizadeh 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.23 5 30-37 (8 pages)
Dyes are widely used in various industries including textile, cosmetic, paper, plastics, rubber, and coating, and their discharge into waterways causes serious environmental and health problems. Four different carbon nanostructures, graphene oxide, oxidized multi-walled carbon nanotubes, activated carbon and multi-walled carbon nanotubes, were used as adsorbents for the removal of Nile Blue A (NBA) dye from aqueous solution. The four carbon nanostructures were characterized by scanning electron... -
Adsorption characteristics of heavy metals ions by physical activation on coal tar pitch-based activated carbon fibers
Bo-kyung Choi, Jae-Kyoung Ko, Soo-Jin Park, Min-Kang Seo 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.22 10 96-100 (5 pages)
particular, toxic substances such as heavy metal ions are present in the wastewater produced by various industries. This wastewater flows into rivers, pollutes water supplies, and can contaminate the drinking water supplied to people [1-3]. Powder or activated carbons are being widely used today to mitigate polluted water from industrial sources and contaminated supplies. To make up for the limitations of such materials, there has been strong interest in the use of activated carbon fibers (ACFs)... -
Thermoelectric Seebeck and Peltier effects of single walled carbon nanotube quantum dot nanodevice
H. A. El-Demsisy, M. D. Asham, D. S. Louis, A. H. Phillips 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.21 2 8-15 (8 pages)
drain. In this three-terminal device, the conducting substance is the gate electrode. Another metallic gate is used to govern the electrostatics and the switching of the carbon nanotube channel. The substances at the carbon nanotube quantum dot/ metal contact are controlled by the back gate. Results show that both the Seebeck and Peltier coefficients have random oscillation as a function of gate voltage in the Coulomb blockade regime for all types of SWCNT quantum dots. Also, the values of both... -
Nanoporous carbon synthesized from grass for removal and recovery of hexavalent chromium
Shahin A. Pathan, Nancy S. Pandita 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 9 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.20 2 10-18 (9 pages)
to Langmuir isotherm model with maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of 35.335 mg/g. The results indicated that removal obeys a pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and that equilibrium was reached in 10 min. A desorption study was done using NaOH. The results of the present study imply that acid functionalized nanoporous carbon synthesized from grass is an efficient, renewable, cost-effective adsorbent material for removal of hexavalent chromium due to its faster removal rate and reusability. -
Pitch-based carbon fibers from coal tar or petroleum residue under the same processing condition
Jiyoung Kim, Ui-Su Im, Byungrok Lee, Dong-Hyun Peck, Seong-Ho Yoon, Doo-Hwan Jung 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 7 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.19 9 72-78 (7 pages)
Spinnable pitches and carbon fibers were successfully prepared from petroleum or coal pyrolysis residues. After pyrolysis fuel oil (PFO), slurry oil, and coal tar were simply filtered to eliminate the solid impurities, the characteristics of the raw materials were evaluated by elemental analysis, 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer (MALDI-TOF-MS), and so on. Spinnable pitches were prepared for melt-spinning... -
Adsorption of lisinopril and chlorpheniramine from aqueous solution on dehydrated and activated carbons
El-Said I. El-Shafey, Haider A. J. Al-Lawati, Wafa S. H. Al-Saidi 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 11 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.19 2 12-22 (11 pages)
Date palm leaflets were used as a precursor to prepare dehydrated carbon (DC) via phosphoric acid treatment at 150°C. DC, acidified with H3PO4, was converted to activated carbon (AC) at 500°C under a nitrogen atmosphere. DC shows very low surface area (6.1 m2/g) while AC possesses very high surface area (829 m2/g). The removal of lisinopril (LIS) and chlorpheniramine (CP) from an aqueous solution was tested at different pH, contact time, concentration, and temperature on both carbons. The... -

한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.18 5 30-36 (7 pages)
Well-dispersed Ag₃VO₄ nanoparticles @polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers were synthesized by an easily controlled, template-free method as a photo-catalyst for the degradation of methylene blue. Their structural, optical, and photocatalytic properties have been studied by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy equipped with rapid energy dispersive analysis of X-ray, photoluminescence, and ultraviolet?visible spectroscopy. The... -
A review: role of interfacial adhesion between carbon blacks and elastomeric materials
Min-Joo Kang, Young-Jung Heo, Fan-Long Jin, Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 10 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.18 1 1-10 (10 pages)
Carbon blacks (CBs) have been widely used as reinforcing materials in advanced rubber composites. The mechanical properties of CB-reinforced rubber composites are mostly controlled by the extent of interfacial adhesion between the CBs and the rubber. Surface treatments are generally performed on CBs to introduce chemical functional groups on its surface. In this study, we review the effects of various surface treatment methods for CBs. In addition, the preparation and properties of CB-reinforced...
