Clinical use of a ceramide-based moisturizer for treating dogs with atopic dermatitis
Ji-young Jung, Eui-hwa Nam, Seol-hee Park, Seung-hee Han, Cheol-yong Hwang* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2013, 제 14권 제 2호 12 199-205 (7 pages)
In humans, skin barrier dysfunction is thought to be responsible for enhanced penetration of allergens. Similar to conditions seen in humans, canine atopic dermatitis (CAD) is characterized by derangement of corneocytes and disorganization of intercellular lipids in the stratum corenum (SC) with decreased ceramide levels. This study was designed to evaluate the effects of a moisturizer containing ceramide on dogs with CAD. Dogs (n = 20, 3∼8 years old) with mild to moderate clinical signs were... -
Expression and lytic efficacy assessment of the Staphylococcus aureus phage SA4 lysin gene
Anil Kumar Mishra*, Mayank Rawat, Konasagara Nagaleekar Viswas, Abhishek, Sujeet Kumar, Manjunatha Reddy 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2013, 제 14권 제 1호 6 37-43 (7 pages)
Treatment of bovine mastitis caused by Staphylococcus (S.) aureus is becoming very difficult due to the emergence of multidrug-resistant strains. Hence, the search for novel therapeutic alternatives has become of great importance. Consequently, bacteriophages and their endolysins have been identified as potential therapeutic alternatives to antibiotic therapy against S. aureus. In the present study, the gene encoding lysin (LysSA4) in S. aureus phage SA4 was cloned and the nucleotide sequence... -
A modified method for inducing periodontitis in dogs using a silk-wire twisted ligature
Se Eun Kim, Eui Ri Lee, Yesran Lee, Manbok Jeong, Young Woo Park, Jae Sang Ahn, Jeong Taek Ahn, Kangmoon Seo* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2012, 제 13권 제 2호 11 193-197 (5 pages)
This study was designed to assess the effectiveness of a modified silk ligature twisted with wire for inducing advanced periodontitis. Periodontitis was induced in five premolars and one molar of 20 healthy dogs over a 60-day period. The dogs were divided into four groups according to the ligature- inducing materials used: soft moistened food only, wire ligature (WL), silk ligature (SL) and twisted ligature with silk and wire (SWL). Periodontal indices were recorded, and dental radiographs were... -
Prevalence and antibiotic resistance of mastitis pathogens isolated from dairy herds transitioning to organic management
Young Kyung Park, Lawrence K. Fox*, Dale D. Hancock, Wade McMahan, Yong Ho Park* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 3 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2012, 제 13권 제 1호 15 103-105 (3 pages)
upon conversion from conventional to organic management over a 3-year period was studied. Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) were the most prevalent mastitis pathogens isolated. CNS were significantly less resistant to b-lactam antibiotics when isolated from milk after the herd transitioned to organic management. Cessation of the use of antimicrobial therapies in dairies in combination with organic management could lead to a reduction in the antimicrobial resistance of mastitis pathogens. -
Optimization of culture media of pathogenic Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae by a response surface methodology
Mi-Hyun Hwang, Dereje Damte, Min-Hee Cho, Young-Hoan Kim, Seung-Chun Park* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2010, 제 11권 제 4호 8 327-332 (6 pages)
significant effect, including fresh yeast extract, and horse and porcine sera, were selected for further optimization using a central composite design (CCD) of RSM. The experimental results were fitted into a second order polynomial model equation. Estimated optimal condition of the factors for maximum production of mycoplasmal protein (i.e., triple-fold increase from 0.8 mg/L produced by basal mycoplasma media to 2.5 mg/L) was 10.9% fresh yeast extract, 15% horse serum, and 31.5% porcine serum... -
Modification of pharmacokinetics of norfloxacin following oral administration of curcumin in rabbits
B. H. Pavithra, N. Prakash*, K. Jayakumar 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 4호 3 293-297 (5 pages)
Investigation was carried out in adult New Zealand white rabbits to study the influence of curcumin pre-treatment on pharmacokinetic disposition of norfloxacin following single oral administration. Sixteen rabbits were divided into two groups of eight each consisting of either sex. Animals in group-I were administered norfloxacin (100 mg/kg body weight p.o), while animals in group-II received similar dose of norfloxacin after pre-treatment with curcumin (60 mg/kg body weight per day, 3 days,... -
Disposition kinetics and urinary excretion of ciprofloxacin in goats following single intravenous administration
R. Raina, S. Prawez*, D.J. Dimitrova, N.K. Pankaj, P.K. Verma 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2008, 제 9권 제 3호 3 241-246 (6 pages)
We evaluated the pharmacokinetics of ciprofloxacin in serum (n = 6) and urine (n = 4) in goats following a single intravenous administration of 4 mg/kg body weight. The serum concentration-time curves of ciprofloxacin were best fitted by a two-compartment open model. The drug was detected in goat serum up to 12 h. The elimination rate constant (b) and elimination half-life (t1/2b) were 0.446 ± 0.04 h and 1.630 ± 0.17 h, respectively. The apparent volume of distribution at steady state... -
The rate of Salmonella spp. infection in zoo animals at Seoul Grand Park, Korea
Y. H. Jang, S. J. Lee, J. G. Lim, H. S. Lee, T. J. Kim, J. H. Park, B. H. Chung, N. H. Choe* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2008, 제 9권 제 2호 8 177-182 (6 pages)
Salmonellosis is an important zoonotic disease that affects both people and animals. The incidence of reptile-associated salmonellosis has increased in Western countries due to the increasing popularity of reptiles as pets. In Korea, where reptiles are not popular as pets, many zoos offer programs in which people have contact with animals, including reptiles. So, we determined the rate of Salmonella spp. infection in animals by taking anal swabs from 294 animals at Seoul Grand Park. Salmonella... -
Tactics of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis for intracellular survival in mononuclear phagocytes
Seng-Ryong Woo, Charles J. Czuprynski* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2008, 제 9권 제 1호 1 1-8 (8 pages)
Johne's disease is a condition that refers to chronic granulomatous enteritis in ruminants. It is believed that survival and replication of Mycobacterium (M.) paratuberculosis in mononuclear phagocytes plays an important role in the pathogenesis of Johne's disease. However, it is not clear how M. paratuberculosis survives for long time periods in mononuclear phagocytes, nor is it clear which factors trigger multiplication of these bacilli and result in the development of Johne's disease.... -
Disposition kinetics and dosage regimen of levofloxacin on concomitant administration with paracetamol in crossbred calves
Vinod K. Dumka* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2007, 제 8권 제 4호 7 357-360 (4 pages)
The disposition kinetics of levofloxacin was investigated in six male crossbred calves following single intravenous administration, at a dose of 4 mg/kg body weight, into the jugular vein subsequent to a single intramuscular injection of paracetamol (50 mg/kg). At 1 min after the injection of levofloxacin, the concentration of levofloxacin in plasma was 17.2±0.36 ■g/ml, which rapidly declined to 6.39±0.16 ■g/ml at 10 min. The drug level above the MIC90 in plasma, was detected for up...
