Alteration of Genetic Make-up in Karnal Bunt Pathogen (Tilletia indica) of Wheat in Presence of Host Determinants
The Plant Pathology Journal 11 Pages
1 97-107 (11 pages)
Alteration of genetic make-up of the isolates and monosporidial strains of Tilletia indica causing Karnal bunt (KB) disease in wheat was analyzed using DNA markers and SDS-PAGE. The generation of new variation with different growth characteristics is not a generalized feature and is not only dependant on the original genetic make up of the base isolate/monosporidial strains but also on interaction with host. Host determinant(s) plays a significant role in the generation of variability and the... -
Roles of Forkhead-box Transcription Factors in Controlling Development, Pathogenicity, and Stress Response in Magnaporthe oryzae
The Plant Pathology Journal 15 Pages
4 136-150 (15 pages)
Although multiple transcription factors (TFs) have been characterized via mutagenesis to understand their roles in controlling pathogenicity and infection-related development in Magnaporthe oryzae, the causal agent of rice blast, if and how forkhead-box (FOX) TFs contribute to these processes remain to be characterized. Four putative FOX TF genes were identified in the genome of M. oryzae, and phylogenetic analysis suggested that two of them (MoFKH1 and MoHCM1) correspond to Ascomycota-specific... -
Note : Open Access ; Occurrence of dsRNA Mycovirus (LeV-FMRI0339) in the Edible Mushroom Lentinula edodes and Meiotic Stability of LeV-FMRI0339 among Monokaryotic Progeny
The Plant Pathology Journal 5 Pages
14 460-464 (5 pages)
dsRNA was found in malformed cultures of Lentinula edodes strain FMRI0339, one of the three most popular sawdust cultivated commercial strains of shiitake, and was also found in healthy-looking fruiting bodies and actively growing mycelia. Cloning of the partial genome of the dsRNA revealed the presence of the RdRp sequence of a novel L. edodes mycovirus (LeV), and sequence comparison of the cloned amplicon showed identical sequences sequence to known RNA-dependent RNA polymerase genes of LeV... -
Open Access : Hydrogen Peroxide- and Nitric Oxide-mediated Disease Control of Bacterial Wilt in Tomato Plants
The Plant Pathology Journal 11 Pages
4 386-396 (11 pages)
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation in tomato plants by Ralstonia solanacearum infection and the role of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and nitric oxide in tomato bacterial wilt control were demonstrated. During disease development of tomato bacterial wilt, accumulation of superoxide anion (O2 -) and H2O2 was observed and lipid peroxidation also occurred in the tomato leaf tissues. High doses of H2O2 and sodium nitroprusside (SNP) nitric oxide donor showed phytotoxicity to detached tomato leaves... -
Research Articles : Evaluation of Potential Reference Genes for Quantitative RT-PCR Analysis in Fusarium graminearum under Different Culture Conditions
The Plant Pathology Journal 9 Pages
1 301-309 (9 pages)
The filamentous fungus Fusarium graminearum is an important cereal pathogen. Although quantitative realtime PCR (qRT-PCR) is commonly used to analyze the expression of important fungal genes, no detailed validation of reference genes for the normalization of qRT-PCR data has been performed in this fungus. Here, we evaluated 15 candidate genes as references, including those previously described as housekeeping genes and those selected from the whole transcriptome sequencing data. By a combination... -
The Phenotype of the Soybean Disease-Lesion Mimic (dlm) Mutant is Light-Dependentand Associated with Chloroplast Function
The Plant Pathology Journal 7 Pages
16 395-401 (7 pages)
The dlm (disease lesion mimic) mutant of soybean (Glycine max L. Merr) shows the similar lesion of a soybean disease caused by a fungus, Corynespora cassilcola. The lesion was examined at cellular and molecular level. Trypan blue staining result indicated that cell death was detectable in the entire region of leaves excluding veins when the lesions had already been developed. We found that the mesophyll cells of palisade layer in the dlm mutant appeared to be wider apart from each other. The... -
Dieback Reality of Apple Trees Resulting from Soil-Borne Fungal Pathogens in South Korea from 2016 to 2019
4 88-94 (7 pages)
Recently, the severe dieback of apple trees resulting from soil-borne diseases has occurred in South Korea. The casual agents of dieback were surveyed on 74 apple orchards that had been damaged nationwide in 2016–2019. The number of apple orchards affected alone by Phytophthora rot, violet root rot, and white root rot was 31, 34, and 3, respectively. Also, the total number of mixed infection orchards was 6. Out of 9,112 apple trees affected by dieback, the trees damaged by Phytophthora... -
Effects of MMP-8 Production by LPS and TPCK Stimulation in Fetal Blood Cells
6 Pages
2020, Vol.13 No.2 7 100-105 (6 pages)
The purpose of our research was to elucidate the effect of Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation on fetal blood cells for the Matrix metalloproteinase-8 (MMP-8) production and the effect of Nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kB) inhibitor, Tosylphenylalanine chloromethyl ketone (TPCK) on this system. Cord blood at birth was obtained during the elective cesarean section term and using LPS (1 μg/mL), stimulated immediately with or without NF-kB inhibitor, TPCK (10 and 20 mM). The levels of MMP-8 were... -
Anti-inflammatory effects of low-level laser in burn wound models in rats
Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Science 6 Pages
3 170-175 (6 pages)
Objective: The anti-inflammatory effects of low-level laser in burn wound model in rats were investigated. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: The rats were assigned to three experimental groups. Group I received second-degree burn wounds; Group II received dressing film and low-level laser (1.2 J/cm2) treatment after a burn wound; Group III received dressing film and low-level laser (2.3 J/cm2) treatment after a burn wound. After inducing a deep second-degree burn wound, the wound was...
