The Hong Kong Early Child Development Scale (HKECDS) is a tool for assessing holistic early child development in preschoolers aged from three to six years. The original version of the scale, HKECDS, was updated in 2019 (HKECDS-2) to reflect the contemporary context and local curricular expectations. Children (n = 144) from three kindergartens in Hong Kong completed the HKECDS-2 in individual sessions. Rasch model analysis and expert discussions resulted in a short version of the scale (HKECDS-3)... -

in China and its implications. The study used a process of document analysis and individual interviews with teachers and parents to collect data. The incorporation of “Western” education approaches is not a new phenomenon in China. This paper uses empirical findings to highlight new concerns regarding this ongoing practice. It analyses the tensions emerging when a foreign curriculum and pedagogy are imported into a local setting without consideration of social and cultural contextual factors.... -

Nicola Goodman, Sue Cherrington 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 22 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2017, Vol.11 No.3 2 17-38 (22 pages)
Narrative approaches to documentation and assessment in early childhood education (ECE) encourage children to be active contributors to their own learning journey. The growing emphasis on technology in society is changing assessment practices, with the introduction of e-portfolios into ECE, extending traditional documentation methods. Despite their growing popularity in New Zealand ECE settings, little research into their impact on children and their learning has been undertaken to date. This... -

the target of ensuring quality in ECCE. However, recent studies give evidence of tremendous progress towards quality reforms. Of course, there are low achievements in some aspects and in some regions, but also improvement in others which shows that ensuring quality is an attainable target. This paper intends to describe initiatives of the Government of India, assess the ground realities, identify major challenges in quality reform in ECCE and suggest possible enablers to reach out the same. -

A theoretical discussion of data collected reveals that a collectively created imaginary situation provides the conditions for a child’s exploration of scientific phenomenon not directly observable (e.g. Earth rotation and revolution). A form of collectively supported scientific consciousness was realized through discussions, imagining and re-imagining of everyday objects as scientific... -
