Isolation and identification of Escherichia coli O157:H7 using different detection methods and molecular determination by multiplex PCR and RAPD
Ji-Yeon Kim, So-Hyun Kim, Nam-Hoon Kwon, Won-Ki Bae, Ji-Youn Lim, Hye-Cheong Koo, Jun-Man Kim, Kyoung-Min Noh, Woo-Kyung Jung, K 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 13 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2005, 제 6권 제 1호 2 7-19 (13 pages)
Escherichia coli O157:H7 is recognized as a significant food-borne pathogen, so rapid identification is important for food hygiene management and prompt epidemiological investigations. The limited prevalence data on Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) and E. coli O157:H7 in foods and animals in Korea made an assessment of the risks difficult, and the options for management and control unclear. The prevalence of the organisms was examined by newly developed kit-E. coli O157:H7 Rapid kit. For the... -
Expression of pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide and its type I receptor mRNAs in human placenta
Phil-Ok Koh, Chung-Kil Won, Hae-Sook Noh, Gyeong-Jae Cho, Wan-Sung Choi 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2005, 제 6권 제 1호 1 1-5 (5 pages)
Pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP) was first isolated from ovine hypothalamus and was known to stimulate the release of growth factor in various cells. Recently, we reported the cellular localization of PACAP and its type I (PAC1 ) receptor in rat placenta during pregnancy. Placenta is a critical organ that synthesizes several growth factors and angiogenic factors for the fetal development and its own growth. However, there is little information regarding the cellular... -
Distribution of trkA in cerebral cortex and diencephalon of the mongolian gerbil after birth
Il-Kwon Park, Xilin Hou, Kyung-Youl Lee, O-Sung Park, Kang-Yi Lee, Min-Young Kim, Tae-Sun Min, Geun-Jwa Lee, Won-Sik Kim, Moo-Kan 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 4호 4 303-307 (5 pages)
TrkA is essential components of the high-affinity NGF receptor necessary to mediate biological effects of the neurotrophins NGF. Here we report on the expression of trkA in the cerebral cortex and diencephalon of mongolian gerbils during postnatal development. The expression of trkA was identified by immunohistochemical method. In parietal cortex and piriform cortex, higher levels of trkA-IR (immunoreactivity) were detected at 3 days postnatal (P3) and at P9. Although trkA was not expressed till... -
Increased expression of osteopontin in the spinal cords of Lewis rats with experimental autoimmune neuritis
Changjong Moon, Taekyun Shin 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 4호 2 289-293 (5 pages)
To investigate the pattern of expression of osteopontin (OPN) in tissues of the central nervous system (CNS) responding to peripheral immunological stimulation, the expression of OPN was studied in the spinal cord of rats with experimental autoimmune neuritis (EAN). In this model system, the sciatic nerves and spinal nerve roots are the target organs of EAN and the spinal cord is a remote organ that may be indirectly affected. OPN was constitutively expressed in some astrocytes adjacent to the... -
Exposure to genistein does not adversely affect the reproductive system in adult male mice adapted to a soy-based commercial diet
Beom Jun Lee, Jong-Koo Kang, Eun-Yong Jung, Young Won Yun, In-Jeoung Baek, Jung-Min Yon, Yoon-Bok Lee, Heon-Soo Sohn, Jae-Yong L 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 3호 7 227-234 (8 pages)
Genistein, a soybean-originated isoflavone, is widely consumed by humans for putative beneficial health effects but its estrogenic activity may affect adversely the development of male reproductive system. Five-week-old ICR mice were purchased and fed with a soybean-based Purina Chow diet until 6 months of age. The animals were exposed by gavage to genistein (2.5 mg/kg/day) or 17β-estradiol (7.5μg/kg/day) for five weeks. Corn oil was used for the negative control. The animals were fed the... -
Canine biphasic synovial sarcoma: case report and immunohistochemical characterization
Panayiotis Loukopoulos, Hock Gan Heng, Habibah Arshad 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 2호 13 173-180 (8 pages)
The clinical, radiological and pathologic features of a biphasic synovial sarcoma in the left elbow joint of a two-year-old male Rottweiler are presented. The tumor showed positive immunoreactivity for vimentin, Epithelial Membrane Antigen (EMA), p53 and PCNA, while it was negative for the cytokeratin used, S-100, Rb and p21. Immunohistochemistry for EMA allowed the identification of epithelioid components of synovial sarcoma, and may, therefore, contribute in establishing a diagnosis of... -
Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and immunoblot analysis of Neospora caninum tachyzoites

of expressed protein profiles and antigenic determination are some of the most challenging aspects of proteomics. Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) combined with immunoblot analysis were employed to study the N. caninum proteome. Protein sample preparation was carried out by first conducting sonication, followed by adding lysis buffer containing 7M urea plus 2M thiourea to the purified tachyzoites in order to complete disruption. A total of 335 differentially expressed protein spots... -
Comparative studies on pheno- and genotypic properties of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from bovine subclinical mastitis in central Java in Indonesia and Hesse in Germany

G binding region and the X-region of protein A gene spa. By PCR amplification, the genes seb, seg, seh, and sei was observed for the S. aureus cultures isolated in Central Java, Indonesia and the genes sec, sed, seg, seh, sei, sej and tst for the S. aureus cultures isolated in Hesse, Germany. None of the S. aureus of both origins harboured the genes sea, see, eta and etb. All isolates were additionally positive for the genes nuc, fnbA, hla, and set1. The gene hlb was found for 6 cultures from... -

in the pylorus. Somatostatin-IR cells were detected throughout whole GI tract except for the cecum and rectum and they showed more numerous frequencies in the stomach regions. In addition, glucagon-IR cells were restricted to the fundus, duodenum and jejunum with rare frequencies, and HPP-IR cells were restricted to the rectum only with rare frequency. In conclusion, some strain-dependent unique distributional patterns of gastrointestinal endocrine cells were found in GI tract of ddY mice. -
Comparative study of PM2.5 - and PM10 - induced oxidative stress in rat lung epithelial cells

mRNA was increased by PM2.5 rather than PM10. PM2.5 induced higher Mth1 mRNA than PM10. In pBR322 DNA treated with PM2.5, production of single strand breakage of DNA was higher than that of PM10. In Western blot analysis, PM2.5 induced more Nrf-2 protein, associated with diverse transcriptional and anti-oxidative stress enzymes, compared to PM10. Our data suggest that PM2.5 rather than PM10 may be responsible for PM-induced toxicity. Additional efforts are needed to establish the environmental...
