Expression of Ca2+-activated K+ Channels and Their Role in Proliferation of Rat Cardiac Fibroblasts
SeyongChoi, WooseokLee, JihyunYun, JeongseokSeo, InjaLim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages

Cardiac fibroblasts constitute one of the largest cell populations in the heart, and contribute to structural, biochemical, mechanical and electrical properties of the myocardium. Nonetheless, their cardiac functions, especially electrophysiological properties, have often been disregarded in studies. Ca2+-activated K+ (KCa) channels can control Ca2+ influx as well as a number of Ca2+-dependent physiological processes. We, therefore, attempted to identify and characterize KCa channels in rat... -

However, there are no reports on the effect of apigenin on glutamate-induced calcium signaling in neurons. We investigated whether apigenin affects glutamate-induced increase of free intracellular Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) in cultured rat hippocampal neurons, using fura-2-based digital calcium imaging and microfluorimetry. The hippocampal neurons were used between 10 and 13 days in culture from embryonic day 18 rats. Pretreatment of the cells with apigenin (1ՌM to 100ՌM) for 5 min... -

cells of Cajal (ICC) that function as pacemaker cells in GI tract. So, we studied the modulation of pacemaker activities by TXA2 in ICC with whole cell patch-clamp technique. Externally applied TXA2 (5ՌM) produced membrane depolarization in current-clamp mode and increased tonic inward pacemaker currents in voltage-clamp mode. The tonic inward currents by TXA2 were inhibited by intracellular application of GDP-Ղ-S. The pretreatment of ICC with Ca2+ free solution and thapsigargin, a... -
Roles of Dopaminergic D1 and D2 Receptors in Catecholamine Release from the Rat Adrenal Medulla

chromaffin cells, respectively, whereas the facilitatory effects of R(+)-SCH23390 and S(-)-raclopride are mediated by the blockade of D1-like and D2-like dopaminergic receptors, respectively: this action is possibly associated with extra- and intracellular calcium mobilization. Based on these results, it is thought that the presence of dopaminergic D1 receptors may play an important role in regulation of the rat adrenomedullary CA secretion, in addition to well-known dopaminergic D2 receptors. -
Post-ischemic Time-dependent Activity Changes of Hippocampal CA1 cells of the Mongolian Gerbils
Moo-HoWon, Hyung-CheulShin 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 4 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2007, Vol.11 No.6 3 249-252 (4 pages)
Changes of single unit activity of CA1 hippocampus region were investigated in anesthetized Mongolian gerbils for six days following transient ischemia. Ischemia was produced immediately before the implantation of micro-wire recording electrodes. In control animals receiving pseudo-ischemic surgery, neither spontaneous neuronal activities (5.70±0.4 Hz) nor the number of recorded neurons per animal changed significantly for six days. Correlative firings among simultaneously recorded neurons... -
Involvement of Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress Response in the Neuronal Differentiation

Expressions of endoplasmic reticulum stress response (ERSR) genes were examined during the neuronal differentiation of rat fetal cortical precursor cells (rCPC) and rat pheochromocytoma PC12 cells. When rCPC were differentiated into neuronal cells for 7 days, early stem cell marker, nestin, expression was decreased from day 4, and neuronal markers such as neurofilament-L, -M and Tuj1 were increased after day 4. In this condition, expressions of BIP, ATF6, and phosphorylated PERK as well as their... -

declined to 6±1% of the initial peak amplitude 60 sec after CCh application and to 1±0.5% after 120 sec. But, in the presence of 0.01%, 0.1% and 1% DMSO, TRPC5 current spontaneously declined to 55±2%, 68±1% and 100±0.2% of the initial peak amplitude 60 sec after CCh application and to 38±2%, 61±1% and 100±1% after 120 sec, respectively. The results suggest that DMSO can internally attenuate the desensitization of TRPC5 current through unknown mechanisms that remain to be elucidated. -
Multiple 5-Hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) Receptors Are Involved in the Melittin-induced Nociceptive Responses in Rat I. Role of Peripheral 5-HT Receptor
HongKeeShin, SeoEunLee 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2007, Vol.11 No.5 9 221-226 (6 pages)
Melittin-induced tonic pain model is characterized by local inflammation, edema, spontaneous flinchings, and sustained mechanical hypersensitivity. These nociceptive responses are mediated through selective activation of capsaicin-sensitive primary afferent fibers by melittin. The present study was undertaken to elucidate the role of peripheral 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) receptors in the melittin-induced nociceptive responses. Changes in mechanical threshold, flinching behaviors and paw... -
Influence of SKF81297 on Catecholamine Release from the Perfused Rat Adrenal Medulla

from the rat adrenal medulla evoked by cholinergic stimulation (both nicotininc and muscarinic receptors) and membrane depolarization. This inhibitory of SKF81297 seems to be mediated by stimulation of dopaminergic D1 receptors located on the rat adrenomedullary chromaffin cells, which are relevant to extra- and intracellular calcium mobilization. Therefore, it is thought that the presence of the dopaminergic D1 receptors may be involved in regulation of CA release in the rat adrenal medulla. -
Ca2+-dependent Long-term Inactivation of Cardiac Na+/Ca2+ Exchanger
Jee-EunLee, TongMookKang 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2007, Vol.11 No.5 4 183-188 (6 pages)
Using BHK cells with stable expression of cardiac Na+/Ca2+ exchanger (BHK-NCX1), reverse mode (i.e. Ca2+ influx mode) of NCX1 current was recorded by whole-cell patch clamp. Repeated stimulation of reverse NCX1 produced a cytosolic Ca2+-dependent long-term inactivation of the exchanger activity. The degrees of inactivation correlated with NCX1 densities of the cells and were attenuated by reduced Ca2+ influx via the reverse exchanger. The inactivation of NCX1 was attenuated by (i) inhibition of...
