The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.3 5 155-160 (6 pages)
signal-regulated kinases (ERKs) was lower in males than in females. Post- ischemia medullary infiltration of RAW 264.7 cell, a monocyte-macrophage cell, and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) were greater in males than in females. In conclusion, males were much more susceptible to ischemia than females. The enhanced propensity to ischemic injury in males was correlated with greater activation of JNKs, greater expression of ICAM-1, and greater trapping of leukocytes in the medulla. -
Increases in Effective Cleft Glutamate Concentration During Expression of LTP
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.2 8 113-120 (8 pages)
Long-term potentiation (LTP) at hippocampal CA3-CA1 synapses is often associated with increases in quantal size, traditionally attributed to enhanced availability or efficacy of postsynaptic glutamate receptors. However, augmented quantal size might also reflect increases in neurotransmitter concentration within the synaptic cleft since AMPA-type glutamate receptors are not generally saturated during basal transmission. Here we report evidence that peak cleft glutamate concentration... -
Correlation between mEPSC Amplitude and Rise Time upon the Blockade of AMPA Receptor Desensitization at Hippocampal Synapses

of transmitter release upon vesicular fusion. However, such regulation often occurs in non-neuronal cells where the dynamics of fusion-pore opening is critical for the speed of transmitter release. In case of synapses, the slower the transmitter release, the smaller the size and rate-of-rise of postsynaptic responses would be expected if postsynaptic neurotransmitter receptors were not saturated. This prediction was tested at hippocampal synapses where postsynaptic AMPA-type glutamate receptors... -
Forward-Mode Na+-Ca2+ Exchange during Depolarization in the Rat Ventricular Myocytes with High EGTA
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2001, Vol.5 No.6 5 487-494 (8 pages)
During depolarization, extrusion of Ca2 from sarcoplasmic reticulum through forward-mode Na-Ca2 exchange was studied in the rat ventricular myocytes patch-clamped in whole-cell configuration. In order to confine the Ca2 responses in a micro-domain by limiting the Ca2 diffusion time, rat ventricular myocytes were dialyzed with high (14 mM) EGTA. K current was suppressed by substituting KCl with 105 mM CsCl and 20 mM TEA in the pipette filling solution and... -
The Effect of Indomethacin on the Production of Eicosanoids and Edema during Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in Skeletal Muscle
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.6 11 515-523 (9 pages)
During reperfusion of skeletal muscle after ischemia, lipid mediators, mainly eicosanoids, are released and may have a role in the pathogenesis of reperfusion injury. To validate the role of eicosanoids in the ischemia-reperfusion induced functional deficits in skeletal muscle, we compared muscle edema and the changes of eicosanoid concentration in the rat hind limb after ischemia-reperfusion injury by application of tourniquet. After 4 hours of ischemia, reperfusion was established for 4 hours... -

from control). Furthermore, I/R hearts perfused with both PMNs and platelets exhibited decreases of 50 to 60% in all measurements of cardiac function (p<0.01). These dual cell perfused I/R hearts also exhibited marked increases in cardiac myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity indicating a significant PMN infiltration, and enhanced P-selectin expression on the coronary microvascular endothelium. All cardiaodynamic effects as well as PMN accumulation and P-selectin expression were markedly attenuated by... -
Comparative Effects of PKB-α and PKC-ζ on the Phosphorylation of GLUT4-Containing Vesicles in Rat Adipocytes
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages

PKB-α. However, the GST-fusion proteins, GLUT4 C-terminal cytoplasmic domain (GLUT4C) and the entire major GLUT4 cytoplasmic domain corresponding to N-terminus, central loop and C-terminus in tandem (GLUT4NLC) were phosphorylated by both PKB-α and PKC-ζ. The immunoblots of PKC-ζ and PKB-α antibodies with GLUT4-containing vesicles preparation showed that PKC-ζ was co-localized with the vesicles but not PKB-α. From the above results, it is clear that PKC-ζ interacts with GLUT4-containing... -
Glucose/Oxygen Deprivation Induces Release of [3H]5-hydroxytryptamine Associated with Synapsin 1 Expression in Rat Hippocampal Slices
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.5 2 347-353 (7 pages)
It has been well documented that a massive release of not only glutamate but also other neurotransmitters may modulate the final responses of nerve cells to the ischemic neuronal injury. But there is no information regarding whether the release of monoamines is directly associated with synaptic vesicular proteins under ischemia. In the present study, it was investigated whether synapsin 1, syntaxin and SNAP-25 are involved in the release of 5-hydroxytryptamine ([3H]5-HT) in glucose/oxygen... -
Effect of Heat Shock Protein 72 on the Generation of Reperfusion Arrhythmias

The causal relationship between heat shock protein (HSP) and second window of cardioprotective effect is still undetermined. In the present study, we assessed whether HSP-producing substances, amphetamine and ketamine, afforded protection against reperfusion-induced ventricular fibrillation (VF) and these protective effect remained after the inhibition of HSP72 production by quercetin, a mitochondrial ATPase inhibitor. Adult mongreal male cats (n=60, 2.5∼4 kg) were used in this study.... -
Effect of Propofol, an Intravenous Anesthetic Agent, on KATP Channels of Pancreatic β-cells in Rats

ATP-sensitive potassium channels (KATP channels) play an important role in insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells. We have investigated the effect of propofol on KATP channels in cultured single pancreatic beta cells of rats. Channel activity was recorded from membrane patches using the patch-clamp technique. In the inside-out configuration bath-applied propofol inhibited the KATP channel activities in a dose-dependent manner. The half-maximal inhibition dose (ED50) was 48.6⁑8.4μM...
