우리나라에서는 매년 약 2,500-4,000명의 뇌종양 환자가 발생하며 인체에 발생하는 전체 종양 중에서 세번째로 많은 비율인 약 10%를 차지한다[1]. 원발성 뇌종양은 두개강내에 뇌조직을 구성하는 세포에서 발생한 것으로 다른 신체의 장기로 전이 되지 않는다. 그러나 원발성 뇌종양의 50%이상이 WHO가 4단계로 분류한 악성도 Ⅲ와 Ⅳ로 악성이며 정상 뇌조직과 경계가 불분명하고 주변 뇌 조직으로 암세포 전이가 빨라 질환의 위중도가 높다[2]. -
