Obesity has increased continuously in western countries during the last several decades and recently become a problem in developing countries. Currently, anti-obesity drugs originating from natural products are being investigated for their potential to overcome adverse effects associated with chemical drugs. Artemisinic acid, which was isolated from the well-known anti-malaria herb Artemisia annua (AA) L., was recently shown to possess anti-adipogenic effects in vitro. However, the... -

Fucoidan is a sulfated polysaccharide purified from brown algae including Fucus vesiculosus and has a variety of biological effects including mobilization of hematopoietic progenitor cells. Recently, we demonstrated that fucoidan stimulates the antigen-presenting functions of dendritic cells. In this study, we investigated the radioprotective effects of fucoidan on bone marrow cells (BMCs), which are the main cellular reservoir for the hematopoietic and immune system. To evaluate the effects of... -

We evaluated the pharmacokinetics of ciprofloxacin in serum (n = 6) and urine (n = 4) in goats following a single intravenous administration of 4 mg/kg body weight. The serum concentration-time curves of ciprofloxacin were best fitted by a two-compartment open model. The drug was detected in goat serum up to 12 h. The elimination rate constant (b) and elimination half-life (t1/2b) were 0.446 ± 0.04 h and 1.630 ± 0.17 h, respectively. The apparent volume of distribution at steady state... -

대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2005, 제 6권 제 2호 9 147-150 (4 pages)
The present study was planned to investigate the pharmacokinetics of ceftriaxone in experimentally induced febrile buffalo calves (n = 5). The fever was induced by intravenous injection of E.coli lipopolysaccaride (1 μg/kg). To study the pharmacokinetics, ceftriaxone was administered at the dose rate of 10 mg/kg body wt. in all animals. At 1 min, the peak concentration of ceftriaxone was 79.4 ± 2.37 μg/ml and the drug was detected up to 6 h. The elimination rate constant was 0.35 ± 0.02 /h... -

The hemodynamic effects of rapid intravenous (IV) administration of 10% dextran 40 in saline solution (D40) and 7.2% hypertonic saline solution (HSS) in calves were compared. Calves received isotonic saline solution (ISS), HSS or D40 (3 calves/group) and were monitored of blood pressure, and cardiac output (CO) for 180 min. HSS and D40 infusions induced a significant increase in relative plasma volume reaching 134.9 ± 2.8 and 125.0 ± 1.9%, respectively at the end of fluid infusion. In the HSS... -

This experiment was conducted to assess the efficacy of typhoid vaccine newly produced by purifying Vi antigen of Salmonella typhi. With Karber method, LD50 of challenging organism (S. typhi ty2) was determined as 6.31 CFU/mouse, and then the organism was used for the study. With Probits method, ED50 of the vaccine was determined as 0.016 microg / 0.5 ml / mouse. The ELISA titer (0.50970.0606) was 4 times in the group treated with high dose (0.25 microg/0.5ml) as in control (0.11130.0110). Six... -

and C(max) of test product to those of reference product was 65.4% and 60.0%, respectively. The ranges of AUC and C(max) of test drug compared to those of reference drug under 90% confidence limits were 27 104% and 28 91.5%, respectively. The results of statistical analysis indicate that the two pivotal pharmacokinetic parameters, AUC and C(max) of test product are not within the 20% of those of the reference, suggesting that the test OTC is not bioequivalent to the reference OTC. -

The immunologic reactivity of a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-protein complex isolated from a potassium thiocyanate extract of a Pasteurella multocida (capsular type A and somatic type 3) strain was evaluated in mice. The LPS-protein complex provided 100% protection in mice against a challenge with the homologous strain. However, when the complex was fractionated into LPS and protein moieties by phenol-water treatment, both components lacked immunogenicity. The complex and extracted components were...
