Phytoplasma-associated Shoot Proliferation and Leaf Yellowing in Lettuce
The Plant Pathology Journal 4 Pages
2 151-154 (4 pages)
Phytoplasma was identified from leaf lettuce (Lactuca sativa) cultivated in commercial green-house in Korea. Diseased leaf lettuce revealed proliferation of shoots, and yellowing and shrinking of leaves (lettuce proliferation- K). Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with universal primer pair P1/P6, and aster yellows (AY) specific primer pair R16F1/R1 amplified 1.5 kb and 1.1 kb length of DNA fragments, respectively. Nucleotide sequences of 16S rRNA gene were determined (Gen- Bank accession no... -
Effect of Cotton Leaf Mosaic Disease on Morphology, Yield and Fibre Characteristics of Upland Cotton in Pakistan

plant height and yield. Cotton leaf mosaic disease was found to produce severe effects on plant morphology with 24.1% reduction in plant height, 25% in internode length and 37.5% in number of sympodia on main stem. However no changes were observed against number of monopodial branches per plant. Inoculated plants showed 82% decrease in yield/plant, 80% in number of boll set/plant, 12.1% in boll weight, 12.8% in lint weight, 10.8% in seed weight, and 6.8% in seed index. Cotton leaf mosaic disease... -
Leaf Blight of Ailanthus altissiman Caused by Phytophthora boehmeriae

± 6.3 μm. The mean length/breadth (l/b) ratio was 1.35. Papillae were 3.9-11.7 μm high and 3.9-9.8 μm wide. Sporangia formed slowly on V8 juice agar medium when cultured under fluorescent light at 12-hour alternation. The sporangia that formed on the agar medium were more spherical and measured 26.5-39.0 × 23.4-35.1 μm with an average of 33.6 ± 3.4 × 28.2 ± 3.2 μm and l/b ratio of 1.19. Disease symptom was reproduced by artificial inoculation of the healthy plants with the isolate. The... -
Graft Transmission and Cytopathology of Pear Black Necrotic Leaf Spot(PBNLS) Disease

study of the disease revealed the consistent presence of flexuous rod-shaped virus-like particles (VLP) in the symptomatic leaves of both Niitaka cultivar and indicator pear, PS-95. The particles, approximately 12 nm in diameter with undetermined length, occurred in the cytoplasm of mesophyll parenchyma cells. Cells with VLPs also contained fibril-containing vesicles, which are common in cells infected with plant viruses with ssRNA genome. The vesicles were formed at the tonoplast. Based on the... -
Molecular Detection and Analysis of Sweet potato feathery mottle virus from Root and Leaf Tissues of Cultivated Sweet Potato Plants
The Plant Pathology Journal 6 Pages
3 12-17 (6 pages)
fg. The virus was rapidly detected from total nucleic acids of leaves and roots from the virus-infected sweet potato plants as well as from the purified viral RNA by the RTPCR. Twenty-four sweet potato samples were selected and analyzed by RT-PCR and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP). RFLP analysis of the PCR products showed three restriction patterns, which resulted in some point mutations suggesting the existence of quasi-species for the virus in the infected sweet potato plants. -

from greenhouses in Buyeo, Chungcheongnam- do, South Korea. Full-length cDNAs of the new ToMV isolates were cloned into dual cauliflower mosaic virus 35S and T7 promoter-driven vectors, sequenced and their pathogenicities investigated. The nucleotide sequences of isolates GW1 (MH507165) and GW2 (MH507166) were 99% identical, resulting in only two amino acid differences in nonconserved region II and the helicase domain, Ile668Thr and Val834Ile. The two isolates were most closely related to a ToMV...
