Effect of changes in head postures during use of laptops on muscle activity of the neck and trunk
Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Science 6 Pages
6 33-38 (6 pages)
spinae muscle activity (p<0.05) with significant increases in lumbar spinae muscle activity (p<0.05). Also, muscle activity with the neutral head posture significantly increased more in the sternocleidomastoid muscle and lumbar spinae than that of the natural posture (p<0.05). Conclusions: Our study results suggest that in order to prevent musculoskeletal pain, the neutral head posture with use of laptops is effective in reducing load to the shoulders and vitalizing the postural muscles. -
Effects of vibration resistance exercise on strength, range of motion, function, pain and quality of life in persons with tennis elbow
Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Science 7 Pages
1 163-169 (7 pages)
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of vibration resistance exercise (VRE) in patients with tennis elbow on strength, range of motion (ROM), function, pain and quality of life (QOL). Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: Twenty-seven participants were randomly assigned to either the VRE group (n=9), weight resistance exercise (WRE) group (n=9) or control group (n=9). Each group underwent hot compress for 15 minutes and electrotherapy for 15 minutes. The... -
Reliability and validity of a personal computer based muscle viewer for measuring upper trapezius and transverses abdominis muscle thickness
Ju-Ri Jeong, Ju Hee Han, Ji-Eun Cho, Wan-hee Lee 물리치료재활과학회 Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Science 7 Pages
8 155-161 (7 pages)
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the reliability and validity of a personal computer-based muscle viewer (PC-BMW) compared with that of a portable ultrasound (P-US) for measuring upper trapezius (UT) and transversus abdominis (TrA) muscle thickness at rest and during contraction. Design: Observational inter-rater reliability study. Methods: Fifty-five healthy participants (25 men, 30 women) participated in this study. PC-BMW and P-US were randomly measured at the UT and TrA muscles.... -
The effect of applying a head-weight device on cervical angle and pain of neck muscles
Jin-Hong Kim, Jong-Gun Kim, Kwang-Sun Do, Jong-eun Yim Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Science 5 Pages
8 101-105 (5 pages)
Objective: The purpose of this study was to measure the change in pain threshold of levator scapular muscle, carniovertebral angle, and head position angle when applying a head-weight device on healthy adult. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: This study was conducted with 21 healthy adult male and female who voluntarily agreed to participate in this study after being informed of the purpose and method of this study. After measuring the cervical angle and pain threshold of levator scapular... -
The effects of increased unilateral and bilateral calcaneal eversion on pelvic and trunk alignment in standing position
Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Science 5 Pages
5 84-88 (5 pages)
Objective: Generally, it is known that there is a correlation between excessive calcaneus eversion and a patient with low back pain and it also affects pelvic alignment. However, there are not enough studies that show calcaneal eversion having an effect on the alignment of the trunk. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: A 3-dimensional motion analysis system was used to assess the lower limbs, pelvic alignment, and trunk alignment with increased unilateral and bilateral calcaneal eversion in... -
Effects of sit-to-stand imagery group training on balance performance in individuals with chronic hemiparetic stroke
Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Science 7 Pages
2 63-69 (7 pages)
Objective: To evaluate the effects of sit-to-stand (STS) imagery group training (IGT) on STS movement and balance performance for chronic hemiparetic stroke. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: A total of 30 people with chronic hemiparetic stroke (15 for STS-IGT group and 15 for control) were recruited in this study. The STS-IGT group participated in a videotape-based STS-IGT for 30 minutes a day, five days a week for six weeks, while the control group watched a documentary on... -
Electromyographic analysis according to shoe weight during ambulation
Eun-sang Lee, Byung-hoon Lee, Ju-chul Cho, Yong-woo Lee, Seung-won Lee 물리치료재활과학회 Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Science 6 Pages
9 115-120 (6 pages)
Objective: To examine the effects of different shoe weights on lower leg muscle fatigue when walking by electromyographic(EMG) analysis due to the most effective weight for loading not being established. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Thirty healthy university students (15 male, 15 female) were enrolled and randomly assigned into three conditions, which included wearing athletic shoes with an addition of 300 g, 500 g, and 1,000 g weights respectively. Prior to walking, all subjects were... -
