Effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals on expression of phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase mRNA in rat testes
In-Jeoung Baek, Jung-Min Yon, Se-Ra Lee, Yan Jin, Mi-Ra Kim, Byeongwoo Ahn, Jin Tae Hong, Young-Kug Choo, Beom Jun Lee, Young Wo 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
2 213-218 (6 pages)
Phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase (PHGPx), an antioxidative selenoprotein, is modulated by estrogen in the testis and oviduct. To examine whether potential endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) affect the microenvironment of the testes, the expression patterns of PHGPx mRNA and histological changes were analyzed in 5-week-old Sprague-Dawley male rats exposed to several EDCs such as an androgenic compound [testosterone (50, 200, and 1,000 ?g/kg)], anti-androgenic compounds... -
Characterization of Brachyspira hyodysenteriae isolates from Korea
Tae Jung Kim, Suk Chan Jung, Jae Il Lee 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
12 335-339 (5 pages)
This study was done to characterize diversity in 10 Brachyspira hyodysenteriae isolates in Korea. The isolates were compared with 14 well-characterized non-Korean strains of various Brachyspira species. All Korean isolates showed strong beta haemolysis and had blunt cell ends with 7~14 periplasmic flagella. They produced indole, and did not ferment fructose. They were alpha-glucosidase positive and alpha-galatosidase negative using the APIZYM kit. Using polyclonal antisera raised in rabbits... -
Application of biotechnological tools for coccidia vaccine development
Wongi Min, Rami A. Dalloul, Hyun S. Lillehoj 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages
1 279-288 (10 pages)
host-parasite interactions and protective intestinal immune mechanisms, as well as characterization of host and parasite genes and proteins involved in eliciting protective host responses are crucial for the development of new control strategy. This review will highlight recent developments in coccidiosis research with special emphasis on the utilization of cutting edge techniques in molecular/cell biology, immunology, and functional genomics in coccidia vaccine development. The information will... -
Dose-Incidence Relationships on the Prenatal Effects of Gamma-Radiation in Mice
Sung Ho Kim, Jong Hwan Lee, Yun Sil Lee, Cha Soo Lee, Tae Hwan Kim, Se Ra Kim, Dae Won Bang, Heon Oh 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
2 7-11 (5 pages)
The objective of this investigation was to evaluate dose-incidence relationships on the prenatal effects of gamma-radiation. Pregnant ICR mice were exposed on day 11.5 after conception, coincident with the most sensitive stage for the induction of major congenital malformations, with 0.5-4.0 Gy of gamma- radiations. The animals were sacrificed on day 18 of gestation and the fetuses were examined for mortality, growth retardation, change in head size and any other morphological abnormalities.... -
Influence of gestational age at exposure on the prenatal effects of gamma-radiation
Sung-ho Kim, Se-ra Kim, Yun-sil Lee, Tae-hwan Kim, Sung-kee Jo, Cha-soo Lee 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
6 37-42 (6 pages)
The objective of this investigation was to evaluate the influence of gestational age at exposure on the prenatal effects of gamma-radiation. Pregnant ICR mice were exposed to a single dose of 2.0 Gy gamma-radiation at a gestational 2.5 to 15.5 days post-coitus (p.c.). The animals were sacrificed on day 18 of gestation and the fetuses were examined for mortality, growth retardation, change in head size and any other morphological abnormalities. The only demonstrable effect of irradiation during... -

Tetramethylpyrazine reverses anxiety-like behaviors in a rat model of post-traumatic stress disorder
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 14 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2018, Vol.22 No.5 6 525-538 (14 pages)
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a trauma-induced psychiatric disorder characterized by impaired fear extermination, hyperarousal, and anxiety that may involve the release of monoamines in the fear circuit. The reported pharmacological properties of tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) include anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, anti-atherosclerotic, and neuropsychiatric activities. However, the anxiolytic-like effects of TMP and its mechanism of action in PTSD are unclear. This study measured several... -
Caffeic acid phenethyl ester protects against photothrombotic cortical ischemic injury in mice
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2018, Vol.22 No.1 11 101-110 (10 pages)
In this study, we aimed to investigate the neuroprotective effects of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE), an active component of propolis purified from honeybee hives, on photothrombotic cortical ischemic injury in mice. Permanent focal ischemia was achieved in the medial frontal and somatosensory cortices of anesthetized male C57BL/6 mice by irradiation of the skull with cold light laser in combination with systemic administration of rose bengal. The animals were treated with CAPE (0.5-5...
