The effects of low-level laser therapy in patients with wrist pain
Jerrold S. Petrofsky, Wendy Chung, Lesley De Fazio, Holly Harris, Michael Laymon, Ha-neul Lee 물리치료재활과학회 Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Science 6 Pages
1 1-6 (6 pages)
Objective: Low level laser treatment (LLLT) is widely used in physical therapy practice. It is combined with physical therapy or LLLT alone. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of LLLT on patients’ perception of general wrist pain. Design: Longitudinal study. Methods: Forty-eight subjects with wrist pain who were in the age range of 18-70 years old were examined. The subjects were asked, via an interview and a visual analog scale, to grade their wrist pain. They were... -

Non-invasive quantification of hepatic fat content in healthy dogs by using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy and dual gradient echo magnetic resonance imaging

The objective of the present study was to describe two non-invasive methods for fat quantification in normal canine liver by using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and spectroscopy. Eleven adult beagle dogs were anesthetized and underwent magnetic resonance examination of the cranial abdomen by performing morphologic, modified Dixon (mDixon) dual gradient echo sequence, and proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H MRS) imaging. In addition, ultrasonographic liver examination was performed,... -
Comparative aspects of microRNA expression in canine and human cancers
Kabiru Sahabi, Gayathri T. Selvarajah, Rasedee Abdullah, Yoke Kqueen Cheah, Geok Chin Tan 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages
2 162-171 (10 pages)
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have important roles in all biological pathways in multicellular organisms. Over 1,400 human miRNAs have been identified, and many are conserved among vertebrates and invertebrates. Regulation of miRNA is the most common mode of post-transcriptional gene regulation. The miRNAs that are involved in the initiation and progression of cancers are termed oncomiRs and several of them have been identified in canine and human cancers. Similarly, several miRNAs have been reported to be... -
Tarantula cubensis extract alters the degree of apoptosis and mitosis in canine mammary adenocarcinomas
Nilgun Gultiken, Tolga Guvenc, Duygu Kaya, Ali Reha Agaoglu, Serhan Serhat Ay, Ibrahim Kucukaslan, Birten Emre, Murat Findik, Sa 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
11 213-219 (7 pages)
In the present study, 13 clinical cases of canine mammary adenocarcinoma were evaluated in order to understand the effect of Tarantula cubensis extract (TCE) on tumor tissue. Punch biopsies were taken from the tumors before treatment with TCE. Subcutaneous injections of TCE were administered three times at weekly intervals (3 mL per dog). Between days 7 and 10 after the third injection, the tumor masses were extirpated by complete unilateral mastectomy. Pre- and post-treatment tumor tissues were... -
β-irradiation (Ho patch)-induced skin injury in mini-pigs: effects on NF-κB and COX-2 expression in the skin
Joong-Sun Kim, Kyung-Jin Rhim, Won-Seok Jang, Sun-Joo Lee, Yeonghoon Son, Seung-Sook Lee, Sunhoo Park, Sang Moo Lim 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
1 1-9 (9 pages)
injury was modeled in mini-pigs by exposing the animals to 50 and 100 Gy of β-emission delivered by Ho patches. Clinicopathological and immunohistochemical changes in exposed skin were monitored for 18 weeks after β-irradiation. Radiation induced desquamation at 2∼4 weeks and gradual repair of this damage was evident 6 weeks after irradiation. Changes in basal cell density and skin depth corresponded to clinically relevant changes. Skin thickness began to decrease 1 week aft... -
An overview of calf diarrhea - infectious etiology, diagnosis, and intervention
Yong-il Cho, Kyoung-Jin Yoon* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 17 Pages
1 1-17 (17 pages)
Calf diarrhea is a commonly reported disease in young animals, and still a major cause of productivity and economic loss to cattle producers worldwide. In the report of the 2007 National Animal Health Monitoring System for U.S. dairy, half of the deaths among unweaned calves was attributed to diarrhea. Multiple pathogens are known or postulated to cause or contribute to calf diarrhea development. Other factors including both the environment and management practices influence disease severity or... -
Differential expression of thymic DNA repair genes in low-dose-rate irradiated AKR/J mice
Jin Jong Bong, Yu Mi Kang, Suk Chul Shin, Seung Jin Choi, Kyung Mi Lee, Hee Sun Kim 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
6 271-279 (9 pages)
determined that AKR/J mice housed in a low-dose-rate (LDR) (Cs, 0.7 mGy/h, 2.1 Gy) γ-irradiation facility developed less spontaneous thymic lymphoma and survived longer than those receiving sham or high-dose-rate (HDR) (Cs, 0.8 Gy/min, 4.5 Gy) radiation. Interestingly, histopathological analysis showed a mild lymphomagenesis in the thymus of LDR-irradiated mice. Therefore, in this study, we investigated whether LDR irradiation could trigger the expression of thymic genes involved in the DNA... -
Fast neutron irradiation deteriorates hippocampus-related memory ability in adult mice
Miyoung Yang, Hwanseong Kim, Juhwan Kim, Sung-Ho Kim, Jong-Choon Kim, Chun-Sik Bae, Joong-Sun Kim, Taekyun Shin, Changjong Moon* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
1 1-6 (6 pages)
Object recognition memory and contextual fear conditioning task performance in adult C57BL/6 mice exposed to cranial fast neutron irradiation (0.8 Gy) were examined to evaluate hippocampus-related behavioral dysfunction following acute exposure to relatively low doses of fast neutrons. In addition, hippocampal neurogenesis changes in adult murine brain after cranial irradiation were analyzed using the neurogenesis immunohistochemical markers Ki-67 and doublecortin (DCX). In the object...
