Virulence factors and genetic variability of uropathogenic Escherichia coli isolated from dogs and cats in Italy
Clara Tramuta, Daniele Nucera, Patrizia Robino, Sara Salvarani, Patrizia Nebbia* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2011, 제 12권 제 1호 8 49-55 (7 pages)
In this study, the association between virulence genotypes and phylogenetic groups among Escherichia (E.) coli isolates obtained from pet dogs and cats with cystitis was detected, and fingerprinting methods were used to explore the relationship among strains. Forty uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC) isolated from dogs (n = 30) and cats (n = 10) in Italy were analysed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the presence of virulence factors and their classification into phylogenetic groups. The same... -
Immunohistochemical localization of galectin-3 in the granulomatous lesions of paratuberculosis-infected bovine intestine
Juyeon Lee, Changjong Moon, Jihoon Kim, Chanwoo Jung, Keun-Hwa Lee, Hong-Gu Joo, Meejung Ahn, Taekyun Shin* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2009, 제 10권 제 3호 1 177-180 (4 pages)
The presence of galectin-3 was immunohistochemically quantified in bovine intestines infected with paratuberculosis (Johne's disease) to determine whether galectin-3 was involved in the formation of granulation tissue associated with the disease. Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis infection was histochemically confirmed using Ziehl- Neelsen staining and molecularly diagnosed through rpoB DNA sequencing. Galectin-3 was detected in the majority of inflammatory cells, possibly macrophages,... -
All blood, No stool: enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli O157:H7 infection
Jang W. Yoon, Carolyn J. Hovde 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 14 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2008, 제 9권 제 3호 1 219-232 (14 pages)
Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli serotype O157:H7 is a pathotype of diarrheagenic E. coli that produces one or more Shiga toxins, forms a characteristic histopathology described as attaching and effacing lesions, and possesses the large virulence plasmid pO157. The bacterium is recognized worldwide, especially in developed countries, as an emerging food-borne bacterial pathogen, which causes disease in humans and in some animals. Healthy cattle are the principal and natural reservoir of E.... -
The expression of plasmid mediated afimbrial adhesin genes in an avian septicemic Escherichia coli strain
Eliana Guedes Stehling, *, Tatiana Amabile Campos, Marcelo Brocchi, Vasco Ariston de Carvalho Azevedo, Wanderley Dias da Silveira 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2008, 제 9권 제 1호 10 75-83 (9 pages)
An Escherichia coli strain (SEPT13) isolated from the liver of a hen presenting clinical signs of septicaemia had a LD50 of 4.0 × 105 CFU/ml in one-day-old chickens, expressed Ia, Ib, E1, E3, K and B colicins and aerobactin. The strain was ampicillin and streptomycin resistant, and found to have fimA, csgA and tsh DNA related sequences; it could adhere to and invade HEp-2 and tracheal epithelial cells, expressed fimbriae (observed by electron microscopy), and had five plasmids of 2.7, 4.7,... -
Sequence analysis of the S1 glycoprotein gene of infectious bronchitis viruses: identification of a novel phylogenetic group in Korea
Ji-Hyun Jang, Haan-Woo Sung, Chang-Seon Song, Hyuk-Moo Kwon* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2007, 제 8권 제 4호 13 401-408 (8 pages)
Twelve Korean infectious bronchitis viruses (IBVs) were isolated in the field from chickens suspected of being carriers of infectious bronchitis between 2001 and 2003. The S1 glycoprotein genes of these IBV isolates were amplified by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT- PCR) and analyzed by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis. These Korean IBV isolates were classified into three groups according to their RFLP patterns obtained using the restriction enzyme... -
Epigallocatechin-3 gallate prevents cardiac hypertrophy induced by pressure overload in rats
Jia Hao, Chan-Hyung Kim, Tae-Sun Ha, Hee-Yul Ahn 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2007, 제 8권 제 2호 4 121-129 (9 pages)
Pressure overload diseases, such as valvular stenosis and systemic hypertension, manifest morphologically in patients as cardiac concentric hypertrophy. Prevention of cardiac remodeling due to increased pressure overload is important to reduce morbidity and mortality. Epigallocatechin-3 gallate (EGCG) is a major bioactive polyphenol present in green tea which has been found to be a nitric oxide-mediated vasorelaxant and to be cardioprotective in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury. Therefore,... -
Immunohistochemical expression of h-telomerase reverse transcriptase in canine and feline meningiomas
Luciana Mandrioli, Serena Panarese, Alessandro Cesari, Maria Teresa Mandara, Paolo Stefano Marcato, Giuliano Bettini 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2007, 제 8권 제 2호 2 111-115 (5 pages)
a significantly higher expression in cats was noted, while no significant association between h-TERT immunolabelling and sex or histotype was evident in dogs or cats. The telomerase enzyme represents a fundamental parameter of potential malignant transformation, which may occur independently of the signal to proliferate, thereby supplying the cells with unlimited growth capabilities. Telomerase expression could be a prognostic indicator independent of the kinetic parameters, although this should... -
Immunohistochemical study of caveolin-1 and -2 in the rat retina
Heechul Kim, Taeki Lee, Jeeyoung Lee, Meejung Ahn, Changjong Moon, Myung Bok Wie, Taekyun Shin 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2006, 제 7권 제 2호 1 101-104 (4 pages)
The expression of caveolin-1 and -2 in the retina was examined; Western blot analysis showed that both were present. Immunohistochemistry indicated that caveolin-1 was expressed in the majority of retinal layers, including the ganglion cell layer, inner plexiform layer, outer plexiform layer, and in the vascular endothelial cells of the retina. Caveolin-2 was primarily immunostained in the vessels, but in a few other elements as well. This is the first demonstration of caveolin differential... -

and three immunoglobulin subtypes of IgG1, IgG2a and IgG2b in the sera of mice before and after challenge. Titers of IgG1 antibodies were approximately two to three times higher than that of IgG2b antibodies in all the immunized groups as compared to the control group. However, IgG2a antibody level somewhat increased after challenge, indicating T-helper type 1 (Th1) cell response. The results of this study can provide useful information for developing efficacious subunit vaccine against JEV.
