and 1/half-time. At 22oC CCh induced sustained elevations in all parameters. 1/half-time depended on both myoplasmic [Ca2+] and MRLC phosphorylation. The steady-state dependence of stress on MRLC phosphorylation was very steep at 37oC in the CCh- or K+-depolarized tissue and reduced temperature flattend the dependence of stress on MRLC phosphorylation compared to 37oC. These data suggest that phasic smooth muscle also exhibits latch behavior and latch is less prominent at lower temperature. -
Influence of Exposure to Extremely Low Frequency Magnetic Field on Neuroendocrine Cells and Hormones in Stomach of Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2011, Vol.15 No.3 3 137-142 (6 pages)
Extremely low frequency magnetic fields (ELF-MF) have the ability to produce a variety of behavioral and physiological changes in animals. The stomach, as the most sensitive part of the neuroendocrine organ of the gastrointestinal tract, is crucial for the initiation of a full stress response against all harmful stress. Thus, the purpose of this study was to examine whether ELF-MF stimuli induce changes in the activity of neuroendocrine cells, considering their involvement in endocrine or... -
Functional Expression of TRPV4 Cation Channels in Human Mast Cell Line (HMC-1)

(TRPV) subfamily in the human mast cell line (HMC-1) using whole-cell patch clamp techniques. The temperature of perfusate was raised from room temperature (RT, 23∼25oC) to a moderately high temperature (MHT, 37∼39oC) to activate TRPV3/4, a high temperature (HT, 44∼46oC) to activate TRPV1, or a very high temperature (VHT, 53∼55oC) to activate TRPV2. The membrane conductance of HMC-1 was increased by MHT and HT in about 50% (21 of 40) of the tested cells, and the I/V curves showed weak outwar... -
The Role of the Pattern Edge in Goldfish Visual Motion Detection
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.6 10 413-417 (5 pages)
To understand the function of edges in perception of moving objects, we defined four questions to answer. Is the focus point in visual motion detection of a moving object: (1) the body or the edge of the object, (2) the leading edge or trailing edge of the object, (3) different in scotopic, mesopic and photopic luminance levels, or (4) different for colored objects? We measured the Optomotor Response (OMR) and Edge Triggering Response (ETR) of goldfish. We used a square and sine wave patterns... -
Response of IKr and hERG Currents to the Antipsychotics Tiapride and Sulpiride
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.5 9 305-310 (6 pages)
The human ether-a-go-go-related gene (hERG) channel is important for repolarization in human myocardium and is a common target for drugs that prolong the QT interval. We studied the effects of two antipsychotics, tiapride and sulpiride, on hERG channels expressed in Xenopus oocytes and also on delayed rectifier K+ currents in guinea pig cardiomyocytes. Neither the amplitude of the hERG outward currents measured at the end of the voltage pulse, nor the amplitude of hERG tail currents, showed any... -
Losartan Inhibits Vascular Smooth Muscle Cell Proliferation through Activation of AMP-Activated Protein Kinase
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.5 8 299-304 (6 pages)
Losartan is a selective angiotensin II (Ang II) type 1 (AT1) receptor antagonist which inhibits vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) contraction and proliferation. We hypothesized that losartan may prevent cell proliferation by activating AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) in VSMCs. VSMCs were treated with various concentrations of losartan. AMPK activation was measured by Western blot analysis and cell proliferation was measured by MTT assay and flowcytometry. Losartan dose- and... -
Effect of the Heat-exposure on Peripheral Sudomotor Activity Including the Density of Active Sweat Glands and Single Sweat Gland Output

ACH, was performed to determine directly activated (DIR) and axon reflex-mediated (AXR) sweating during ACh iontophoresis. The sweat rate, activated sweat gland density, sweat gland output per single gland activated, as well as oral and skin temperature changes were measured. The post exposure activity had a short onset time (p<0.01), higher active sweat rate [(AXR (p<0.001) and DIR (p<0.001)], higher sweat output per gland (p<0.001) and higher transepidermal water loss (p<0.001) compared... -
Identification of Differentially Expressed Genes in Bovine Follicular Cystic Ovaries
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.5 3 265-272 (8 pages)
Follicular cystic ovary (FCO) is one of the most frequently diagnosed ovarian diseases and is a major cause of reproductive failure in mammalian species. However, the mechanism by which FCO is induced remains unclear. Genetic alterations which affect the functioning of many kinds of cells and/or tissues could be present in cystic ovaries. In this study, we performed a comparison analysis of gene expression in order to identify new molecules useful in discrimination of bovine FCO with follicular... -
Redox Factor-1 Inhibits Cyclooxygenase-2 Expression via Inhibiting of p38 MAPK in the A549 Cells
DaeGoonYoo, CukSeongKim, SangKiLee, HyoShinKim, EunJungCho, MyoungSooPark, SangDoLee, JinBongPark, ByeongHwaJeon 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.3 4 139-144 (6 pages)
In this study, we evaluated the role of apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease1/redox factor-1 (Ref-1) on the tumor necrosis factor-Ձ (TNF-Ձ) induced cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression using A549 lung adenocarcinoma cells. TNF-Ձ induced the expression of COX-2 in A549 cells, but did not induce BEAS-2B expression. The expression of COX-2 in A549 cells was TNF-Ձ dose-dependent (5∼100 ng/ml). TNF-Ձ-stimulated A549 cells evidenced increased Ref-1 expression in a... -
Modulation of Presynaptic GABA Release by Oxidative Stress in Mechanically-isolated Rat Cerebral Cortical Neurons

Reactive oxygen species (ROS), which include hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), the superoxide anion (O2−·), and the hydroxyl radical (OH·), are generated as by-products of oxidative metabolism in cells. The cerebral cortex has been found to be particularly vulnerable to production of ROS associated with conditions such as ischemia-reperfusion, Parkinson's disease, and aging. To investigate the effect of ROS on inhibitory GABAergic synaptic transmission, we examined the electrophysiological...
