Involvement of the OsMKK4-OsMPK1 Cascade and its Downstream Transcription Factor OsWRKY53 in the Wounding Response in Rice
The Plant Pathology Journal 10 Pages
7 168-177 (10 pages)
by wounding in vivo. Furthermore, OsMPK1 directly interacted with a rice defense-related transcription factor OsWRKY53. To understand a functional link between MAPK and its target transcription factor, we showed that OsMPK1 activated by the constitutively active mutant OsMKK4 phosphorylated OsWRKY53 in vitro. Taken together, components involving in the wounding signaling pathway, OsMKK4-OsMPK1-OsWRKY53, can be important players in regulating crosstalk between abiotic stress and biotic stress. -
Open Access : Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae RpfE Regulates Virulence and Carbon Source Utilization without Change of the DSF Production
The Plant Pathology Journal 10 Pages
2 364-373 (10 pages)
It has been known that most regulation of pathogenicity factor (rpf ) genes in xanthomonads regulates virulence in response to the diffusible signal factor, DSF. Although many rpf genes have been functionally characterized, the function of rpfE is still unknown. We cloned the rpfE gene from a Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) Korean race KACC10859 and generated mutant strains to elucidate the role of RpfE with respect to the rpf system. Through experiments using the rpfE-deficient mutant... -
Research Articles : RNAseq-based Transcriptome Analysis of Burkholderia glumae Quorum Sensing
The Plant Pathology Journal 11 Pages
4 249-259 (11 pages)
Burkholderia glumae causes rice grain rot and sheath rot by producing toxoflavin, the expression of which is regulated by quorum sensing (QS). The QS systems of B. glumae rely on N-octanoyl homoserine lactone, synthesized by TofI and its cognate receptor TofR, to activate the genes for toxoflavin biosynthesis and an IclR-type transcriptional regulator gene, qsmR. To understand genome-wide transcriptional profiling of QS signaling, we employed RNAseq of the wild-type B. glumae BGR1 with... -
Transcriptome Analysis of Induced Systemic Drought Tolerance Elicited by Pseudomonas chlororaphis O6 in Arabidopsis thaliana
The Plant Pathology Journal 12 Pages
11 209-220 (12 pages)
P. chlororaphis O6-colonized under drought stress plants compared to those of the drought stressed plants without bacterial treatment. Transcripts of the jasmonicacid-marker genes, VSP1 and pdf-1.2, the salicyl acid regulated gene, PR-1, and the ethylene-response gene, HEL, also were up-regulated in plants colonized by P. chlororaphis O6, but differed in their responsiveness to drought stress. These data show how gene expression in plants lacking adequate water can be remarkably influenced by... -
Phyllosticta musarum Infection-Induced Defences Suppress Anthracnose Disease Caused by Colletotrichum musae in Banana Fruits cv Embul
The Plant Pathology Journal 10 Pages
9 77-86 (10 pages)
Anthracnose development by Colletotrichum musae was observed to be significantly less in the fruits of the banana cultivar ``Embul`` (Mysore, AAB) infected with Phyllosticta musarum than in fruits without such infections. Anthracnose disease originates from quiescent C. musae infections in the immature fruit. P. musarum incites minute, scattered spots, referred to as freckles, in the superficial tissues of immature banana peel which do not expand during maturation or ripening. P. musarum does... -
Induced Systemic Drought and Salt Tolerance by Pseudomonas chlororaphis O6 Root Colonization is Mediated by ABA-independent Stomatal Closure
The Plant Pathology Journal 5 Pages
10 202-206 (5 pages)
Pseudomonas chlororaphis O6 in Arabidopsis thaliana Col-0 plants resulted in induced tolerance to drought and salinity caused by halide salt-generated ionic stress but not by osmotic stress caused by sorbitol. Stomatal apertures decreased following root colonization by P. chlororaphis O6 in both wild-type and ABA-insensitive Arabidopsis mutant plants. These results suggest that an ABAindependent stomatal closure mechanism in the guard cells of P. chlororaphis O6-colonized plants could be a key... -
Examination of Correlations Between Several Biochemical Components and Powdery Mildew Resistance of Flax Cultivars
The Plant Pathology Journal 7 Pages
3 149-155 (7 pages)
A field trial was conducted in 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 growing seasons at Giza Agricultural Research Station to examine correlations between some biochemical componets and powdery mildews (PMs) resistance in flax cultivars. Nine flax cultivars could be divided into five distinct groups, i.e., highly susceptible (Cortland and C.I. 2008), moderately susceptible (Giza 7, and Marshall), moderately resistant (Cass), resistant (Koto, Dakota and Wilden), and highly resistant (Ottowa 770B). The... -
Research Notes : Difference in Chemotype Composition of Fusarium graminearum Populations Isolated from Durum Wheat in Adjacent Areas Separated by the Apennines in Northern-Central Italy
The Plant Pathology Journal 6 Pages
8 354-359 (6 pages)
Chemotype composition of Fusarium graminearum strains, isolated from durum wheat kernels from naturally FHB infected fields in Northern and Central Italy, was investigated by multiplex PCR. The different climatic and environmental conditions of the two examined areas separated by the Apennines affected the composition of chemotypes. 15Ac-DON chemotype was predominant in both the sub areas. Nivalneol chemotype was more frequent in the warmer sub area. -
Identification and Transcriptional Analysis of Priming Genes in Arabidopsis thaliana Induced by Root Colonization with Pseudomonas chlororaphis O6

to water withholding. Genes encoding defense proteins in signaling pathways regulated by jasmonic acid and ethylene, such as VSP1 and PDF1.2, were additional genes with enhanced expression in the P. chlororaphis O6-colonized plants. This study indicated that the expression of priming genes, as well as genes involved in jasmonic acid- and ethylene-regulated genes may play an important role in the systemic induction of both abiotic and biotic stress due to root colonization by P. chlororaphis O6. -
Response of Bentgrass Cultivars to Microdochium nivale Isolates Collected from Golf Courses

that there are varying levels of susceptibility in species and cultivars to M. nivale. Host resistance by days of cold hardening was confirmed, by detecting the resistance by 30 days of cold hardening treatments. In field trial, susceptibility of 12 bentgrass cultivars was highly correlated to the results obtained from growth chamber experiments. The positive correlation of the susceptibility between growth chamber experiments and field trials demonstrates that the growth chamber method is a...
