Induction of humoral responses to BHV-1 glycoprotein D expressed by HSV-1 amplicon vectors
Andrea Maria Blanc, Mabel Beatriz Berois, Lorena Magalí Tomé, Alberto L. Epstein, Juan Ramón Arbiza* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2012, 제 13권 제 1호 9 59-65 (7 pages)
Herpes simplex virus type-1 (HSV-1) amplicon vectors are versatile and useful tools for transferring genes into cells that are capable of stimulating a specific immune response to their expressed antigens. In this work, two HSV-1-derived amplicon vectors were generated. One of these expressed the full-length glycoprotein D (gD) of bovine herpesvirus 1 while the second expressed the truncated form of gD (gDtr) which lacked the trans-membrane region. After evaluating gD expression in the infected... -
Cloning and characterization of a selenium-independent glutathione peroxidase (HC29) from adult Haemonchus contortus
Wei Sun, Xiaokai Song, Ruofeng Yan, Lixin Xu, Xiangrui Li* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages

a member of the thioredoxin-like family. Alignment of the nucleic acid and amino acid sequences of HC29 with those of the reported selenium-independent GPX of H. contortus showed that HC29 contained different types of spliced leader sequences as well as dimer interface sites, although the active sites of both were identical. Enzymatic analysis of recombinant prokaryotic HC29 protein showed activity for the hydrolysis of H2O2. These findings indicate that HC29 is a selenium-independent GPX of H.... -
Comparison of four diagnostic methods for detecting rabies viruses circulating in Korea
Dong-Kun Yang*, Eun-Kyung Shin, Yoon-I Oh, Kyung-Woo Lee, Chung-San Lee, Seo-Young Kim, Jeong-A Lee, Jae-Young Song 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2012, 제 13권 제 1호 7 43-48 (6 pages)
It is essential to rapidly and precisely diagnose rabies. In this study, we evaluated four diagnostic methods, indirect fluorescent antibody test (FAT), virus isolation (VI), reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), and rapid immunodiagnostic assay (RIDA), to detect rabies in animal brain homogenates. Out of the 110 animal brain samples tested, 20 (18.2%) were positive for rabies according to the FAT. Compared to the FAT, the sensitivities of VI, RT-PCR, and RIDA were 100, 100,... -
Immunomodulatory effects of human amniotic membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells
Jung Won Kang, Hye Cheong Koo*, Sun Young Hwang, Sung Keun Kang, Jeong Chan Ra, Moon Han Lee, Yong Ho Park* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2012, 제 13권 제 1호 4 23-31 (9 pages)
Human amniotic membrane-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hAM-MSCs) are capable of differentiating into several lineages and possess immunomodulatory properties. In this study, we investigated the soluble factor-mediated immunomodulatory effects of hAM-MSCs. Mitogen-induced peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) proliferation was suppressed by hAM-MSCs in a dose-dependent manner as well as hAM-MSC culture supernatant. Moreover, interferon-gamma and interleukin (IL)-17 production significantly... -
Genotypic characterization of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from bovines, humans, and food in Indonesia
Siti Isrina Oktavia Salasia*, Syarifudin Tato, Ngalijan Sugiyono, Dwi Ariyanti, Feny Prabawati 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2011, 제 12권 제 4호 8 353-361 (9 pages)
The present study determined the genetic relationships between 41 Staphyloccocus (S.) aureus isolates from bovines, humans, and food using a single enzyme amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) technique. We evaluated the prevalence of staphylococcal enterotoxin (SE) genes and other virulence gene determinants by PCR. The identification of S. aureus was based on culturing and biochemical tests, and by amplifying a specific section of the 23S rRNA gene. PCR amplification of the SE genes... -
The critical time of avian leukosis virus subgroup J-mediated immunosuppression during early stage infection in specific pathogen-free chickens
Feng Wang, Xiaowei Wang, Hongbo Chen, Jianzhu Liu, Ziqiang Cheng* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2011, 제 12권 제 3호 6 235-241 (7 pages)
However, the granulocyte cell number was markedly lower in the infected groups than in the control group. In group 1 (day 1 infection) CD4 cells increased during the second week but significantly decreased during the fourth week, while group 2 (day 7 infection) showed the opposite effect. Viral RNA increased significantly by the fourth week. These data identify 3∼4 weeks post-infection as the key time at which the ALV-J virus exerts its immunosuppressive effects on the host. -
Determination of staphylococcal exotoxins, SCCmec types, and genetic relatedness of Staphylococcus intermedius group isolates from veterinary staff, companion animals, and hospital environments in Korea
Jung-Ho Youn, Hye Cheong Koo*, Kuk Ju Ahn, Suk-Kyung Lim, Yong Ho Park* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2011, 제 12권 제 3호 4 221-226 (6 pages)
The Staphylococcus (S.) intermedius group (SIG) has been a main research subject in recent years. S. pseudintermedius causes pyoderma and otitis in companion animals as well as foodborne diseases. To prevent SIG-associated infection and disease outbreaks, identification of both staphylococcal exotoxins and staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) types among SIG isolates may be helpful. In this study, it was found that a single isolate (one out of 178 SIG isolates examined) harbored the... -

This study was conducted to determine the prevalence and characteristics of pathogenic Escherichia (E.) coli strains from diarrheic calves in Vietnam. A total of 345 E. coli isolates obtained from 322 diarrheic calves were subjected to PCR and multiplex PCR for detection of the f5, f41, f17, eae, sta, lt, stx1, and stx2 genes. Of the 345 isolates, 108 (31.3%) carried at least one fimbrial gene. Of these 108 isolates, 50 carried genes for Shiga toxin and one possessed genes for both enterotoxin... -
Virulence factors and genetic variability of uropathogenic Escherichia coli isolated from dogs and cats in Italy
Clara Tramuta, Daniele Nucera, Patrizia Robino, Sara Salvarani, Patrizia Nebbia* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2011, 제 12권 제 1호 8 49-55 (7 pages)
In this study, the association between virulence genotypes and phylogenetic groups among Escherichia (E.) coli isolates obtained from pet dogs and cats with cystitis was detected, and fingerprinting methods were used to explore the relationship among strains. Forty uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC) isolated from dogs (n = 30) and cats (n = 10) in Italy were analysed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the presence of virulence factors and their classification into phylogenetic groups. The same... -

stop to P-gp synthesis. In this study, we examined the full- length coding sequence of the ABCB1 gene in an ivermectin- sensitive Border Collie that lacked the aforementioned deletion mutation. The sequence was compared to the corresponding sequences of a wild-type Beagle and seven ivermectin-tolerant family members of the Border Collie. When compared to the wild-type Beagle sequence, that of the ivermectin-sensitive Border Collie was found to have one insertion mutation and eight single...
