in molecular/cell biology, immunology, and functional genomics in coccidia vaccine development. The information will enhance our understanding of host-parasite biology, mucosal immunology, and host and parasite genomics in the development of a practical and effective control strategy against Eimeria and design of nutritional interventions to maximize growth under the stress caused by vaccination or infection. Furthermore, successful identification of quantitative economic traits associated with... -
Effect of β -mercaptoethanol or epidermal growth factor supplementation on in vitro maturation of canine oocytes collected from dogs with different stages of the estrus cycle

which is known to play an important role in protecting the cell or embryos from oxidative damage. Thus, it is suggested that supplementation of canine IVM medium with β-ME or EGF may be of benefit due to its positive role in IVM of various mammalian oocytes and embryo development, including cattle, pigs, rodents and humans. This study investigates the effect of ovarian estrus stage on canine oocyte quality and supplementation of medium with β-ME or EGF on IVM of canine oocytes. As results, a... -
Exposure to genistein does not adversely affect the reproductive system in adult male mice adapted to a soy-based commercial diet

Genistein, a soybean-originated isoflavone, is widely consumed by humans for putative beneficial health effects but its estrogenic activity may affect adversely the development of male reproductive system. Five-week-old ICR mice were purchased and fed with a soybean-based Purina Chow diet until 6 months of age. The animals were exposed by gavage to genistein (2.5 mg/kg/day) or 17β-estradiol (7.5μg/kg/day) for five weeks. Corn oil was used for the negative control. The animals were fed the... -
Molecular characterization of full-length genome of Japanese encephalitis virus (KV1899) isolated from pigs in Korea

대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 3호 3 197-205 (9 pages)
We have determined the complete nucleotide and deduced amino acid sequences of the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) strain KV1899, isolated from a fattening pig in Korea. In comparison with 22 fully sequenced JEV genomes currently available, we found that the 10,963- nucleotide RNA genome of KV1899 has a 13-nucelotide deletion in the 3' non-translated variable region and 53 unique nucleotide sequences including 3' non-translated region (NTR). Its single open reading frame has a total of 28... -
B6C3F1 mice exposed to ozone with 4-(N-methyl-Nnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone and/or dibutyl phthalate showed toxicities through alterations of NF-κB, AP-1, Nrf2, and osteopontin
Min Young Kim, Kyung Suk Song, Gun Ho Park, Seung Hee Chang, Hyun Woo Kim, Jin Hong Park, Hwa Jin, Kook Jong Eu, Hyun Sun Cho, G 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 2호 7 131-137 (7 pages)
Toxic effects of ozone, 4-(N-methyl-N-nitrosamino)-1-(3- pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK), and/or dibutyl phthalate (DBP) were examined through NF-kB, AP-1, Nrf2, and osteopontin (OPN) in lungs and livers of B6C3F1 mice. Electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) indicated that mice treated with combination of toxicants induced high NF-kB activities. Expression levels of p105, p65, and p50 proteins increased in all treated mice, whereas IkB activity was inhibited in NNK-, DBP-, and combination-treated... -
Comparative study of PM2.5 - and PM10 - induced oxidative stress in rat lung epithelial cells

rat lung epithelial cell in order to provide basic data for the risk assessment of PM2.5. PM2.5 showed higher cytotoxicity than PM10. Also, PM 2.5 induced more malondialdehyde (MDA) formation than PM10. In Hoechst 33258 dye staining and DNA fragmentation assay, apopotic changes were clearly detected in PM2.5 treated cells in compared to PM10. Expression of catalase mRNA was increased by PM2.5 rather than PM10. PM2.5 induced higher Mth1 mRNA than PM10. In pBR322 DNA treated with PM2.5, production... -
The Effects of Korean Red Ginseng (Ginseng Radix Rubra) on Liver Regeneration after Partial Hepatectomy in Dogs
Young-sam Kwon, Kwang-ho Jang, In-ho Jang 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2003, 제 4권 제 1호 13 83-92 (10 pages)
We investigated the effects of the oral administration of Korean red ginseng (KRG) on morphologic change and function of liver in dogs. Fifteen adult mongrel dogs (n=15) were divided into three groups: a control group (40% hepatectomy, untreated), a 250 group (40% hepatectomy, 250 mg/kg of KRG, PO), and a 500 group (40% hepatectomy, 500 mg/kg of KRG, PO). The liver regeneration, histologic findings, CBC (WBC, RBC, PCV, and PLT), and liver function tests (AST, ALT, GGT, ALP, LDH, and T-bil) were... -

as a non-treated control. Proportions of expressing CD2+ and CD8+ cells increased significantly (p<, 0.05) at 8-week post-application. Mean antibody titers of each group against HCV gradually increased to higher levels after vaccination and with challenge of the virulent virus. In conclusion, the IAMC-treated diets can be helpful for the improvement of growth in pigs with proper vaccination program, while the IAMC-treated diets have no effects on the clinical protection against hog cholera. -
Prior Ischemic Treatment Renders Kidney Resistant to Subsequent Ischemia
Kwon-Moo Park and Ho-Jae Han 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2002, 제 3권 제 2호 9 115-122 (8 pages)
Prior ischemia leads to resistance against subsequent ischemic insults. The mechanisms that underlie this adaptive response remain unidentified. Thus, we studied whether the reduced susceptibility of mice previously subjected to the ischemia to ischemia/ reperfusion injury is related with altered inflammatory responses. Thirty minutes of bilateral kidney ischemia results in significantly increased plasma creatinine and blood urea nitrogen levels in BALB/c male mice. There is severe disruption of... -
Efficacy of Purified Vi Polysaccharide Typhoid Vaccine
Jong-Hwan Park, Jung-Joo Hong, Eun-Sil Choi, Jin-Won Leeand Jae-Hak Park 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2002, 제 3권 제 2호 2 67-70 (4 pages)
This experiment was conducted to assess the efficacy of typhoid vaccine newly produced by purifying Vi antigen of Salmonella typhi. With Karber method, LD50 of challenging organism (S. typhi ty2) was determined as 6.31 CFU/mouse, and then the organism was used for the study. With Probits method, ED50 of the vaccine was determined as 0.016 microg / 0.5 ml / mouse. The ELISA titer (0.50970.0606) was 4 times in the group treated with high dose (0.25 microg/0.5ml) as in control (0.11130.0110). Six...
