Denis Nnabuike Onah, Yukifumi Nawa 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 3호 6 221-226 (6 pages)
Mucosal mast cell-derived chondroitin sulphates (sulphated proteoglycans) were assayed in gut washings and homogenate of FcRγ-knockout (KO) and wild-type (WT) C57BL/6 mice challenged with Strongyloides venezuelensis in order to assess their possible role in secondary immunity against enteric nematodes. Groups of immune KO and WT mice were challenged by oral gavage with 300 infective larvae (L3 ). Establishment of infection was assessed by daily faecal analysis to determine the number of eggs... -

Eung-Goo Lee, Jae-Hoon Kim, Yong-Seung Shin, Gee-Wook Shin, Yong-Hwan Kim, Gon-Sup Kim, Dae-Yong Kim, Tae-Sung Jung, Myung-Deuk 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 2호 8 139-145 (7 pages)
Identification of expressed protein profiles and antigenic determination are some of the most challenging aspects of proteomics. Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) combined with immunoblot analysis were employed to study the N. caninum proteome. Protein sample preparation was carried out by first conducting sonication, followed by adding lysis buffer containing 7M urea plus 2M thiourea to the purified tachyzoites in order to complete disruption. A total of 335 differentially expressed... -
Biophysical characterization of Japanese encephalitis virus (KV1899) isolated from pigs in Korea
Dong Kun Yang, Byoung Han Kim, Chang Hee Kweon, Jun Hun Kwon, Seong In Lim, Hong Ryul Han 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 2호 6 125-130 (6 pages)
The isolate was further characterized by immuno-fluorescence assay using Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) specific monoclonal antibodies. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) revealed the presence of JE specific conserved sequences in this isolate. The artificially inoculated pigs had HI titer of 320 to 2,560 against JEV at 14 to 42 days post inoculation. We confirmed this isolate as Japanese encephalitis virus. It was the second isolation of JEV in pigs in Korea. -
Mutation and overexpression of p53 as a prognostic factor in canine mammary tumors
Chung-Ho Lee, Wan-Hee Kim, Ji-Hey Lim, Min-Soo Kang, Dae-Yong Kim and Oh-Kyeong Kweon 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 1호 9 63-69 (7 pages)
We concentrated ourselves to evaluate the prognostic significance of the p53 gene mutations, its protein expression and MIB-1 index as a proliferative marker in canine mammary tumors. In the present study, a total of 20 cases were examined, among which there were 5 malignant mixed tumors, 4 mammary gland adenocarcinomas, 1 papillary adenocarcinoma, 8 benign mixed tumors and 2 mammary gland adenomas. Positive immunostaining for p53 with PAb240 antibody was found in 2 benign (20%) and 3 malignant... -
The effects of cyclophosphamide treatment on the pathogenesis of subgroup J avian leukosis virus (ALV-J) infection in broiler chickens with Marek's disease virus exposure
Yongbaek Kim, Thomas P. Brown and Mary J. Pantin-Jackwood 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 1호 7 49-58 (10 pages)
suppression on the pathogenesis of Subgroup J avian leukosis virus (ALV-J) in broiler chickens. Neonatal chickens were treated with cyclophosphamide (CY) or PBS, and then infected with ALV-J (ADOL-7501) at 2 weeks of age. CY treatment induced B cell specific immunosuppression throughout the experiment confirmed by decreased bursal weight, intact lymphocyte mitogenetic activity stimulated by Con A and increased relative subpopulation of CD3-positive cells as measured by flow cytometry. Chickens i... -
Immunomodulatory and antitumor effects in vivo by the cytoplasmic fraction of Lactobacillus casei and Bifidobacterium longum
Jung-Woo Lee, Jung-Gul Shin, Eun Hee Kim, Hae Eun Kang, In Been Yim, Ji Yeon Kim, Hong-Gu Joo and Hee Jong Woo 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 1호 6 41-48 (8 pages)
The immunomodulatory and antitumor effects of lactic acid bacteria (LABs) were investigated. Cytoplasmic fraction of Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei and Bifidobacterium longum were tested for the antiproliferative activity in vitro to SNUC2A, SNU1, NIH/3T3 and Jurkat cell lines by crystal violet assay. All cytoplasmic fraction suppressed proliferation of tumor cells, though L. casei and B. longum were more effective. From these results, cytoplasmic fraction of L. casei and B.... -

genetic and immunological markers that could be used to select for improved disease resistance. In this study we have analyzed the lymphocyte subpopulations of mastitis-resistant and susceptible cows using monoclonal antibodies specific for bovine leukocyte differentiation antigens and flow cytometry. We have also used a microarray typing technique to define the bovine leukocyte antigen (BoLA) class I and class II haplotypes associated with resistance or susceptibility to bovine mastitis. A... -
Inherited canine copper toxicosis in Australian Bedlington Terriers
Changbaig Hyun and Lucio John Filippich 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 1호 4 19-28 (10 pages)
Inherited copper toxicosis in Bedlington Terriers (CTBT) is a copper associated hepatopathy caused by an autosomal recessive genetic defect of gene involving copper metabolism. To compare clinical and histopathological findings with previous reports and to expand our knowledge for future genetic studies, 18 terriers were clinically and histopathologically examined in this study. Pedigree information and dietary history were obtained from the owners before a thorough clinical examination was... -
Effects of cyclosporin A treatment on the pathogenesis of avian leukosis virus subgroup J infection in broiler chickens with Marek’s disease virus exposure
Yongbaek Kim, Thomas P. Brown, Mary J. Pantin-Jackwood 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 11 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2003, 제 4권 제 3호 8 245-255 (11 pages)
CSP induced significant T-cell specific immunosuppression determined by decreased cutaneous basophilic hypersensitivity response and decreased lymphocyte mitogenic activity using concanavalin A. Most of the chickens examined had Marek’s disease virus infection prior to 3 weeks of age. The percentage of antibody-positive birds and antibody titers were similar in infected chickens between both treatment groups. The ratio of viremic chickens was significantly higher in CSP treated group than that... -

16S rRNA genes were amplified by polymerase chain reaction and subsequently digested with the restriction enzymes RsaI and AvaII yielding speciesspecific restriction patterns. Both species were additionally identified by amplifying species-specific parts of the genes encoding the 16S rRNA, the 23S rRNA and the 16S-23S rDNA intergenic spacer region, respectively. The CAMP factor gene cfu, a potential virulence factor of S. uberis, was amplified, corresponding to a phenotypically positive...
