brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB), and phosphorylated cAMP response element-binding protein (p-CREB), western blotting and immunohistochemistry analyses were performed. In behavioral analysis, nociception tests showed that pain threshold was significantly decreased in the FM group compared to that in the control group. Western blot and immunohistochemical analyses of medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) and hippocampus showed downregulation of BDNF... -
JS-III-49, a hydroquinone derivative, exerts anti-inflammatory activity by targeting Akt and p38

activities of Src and Syk, which are upstream kinases of Akt, in LPSstimulatedRAW264.7 cells. Moreover, JS-III-49 suppressed the nuclear translocation of c-Fos, one of the components of AP-1, by specifically targeting p38, an upstream mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) in the AP-1 pathway in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. These results suggest that JS-III-49 plays an anti-inflammatory role in LPS-stimulated macrophages by targeting Akt and p38 in the NF-κB and AP-1 pathways, respectively. -
Activation of transient receptor potential vanilloid 3 by the methanolic extract of Schisandra chinensis fruit and its chemical constituent γ-schisandrin

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2017, Vol.21 No.3 5 309-316 (8 pages)
Transient receptor potential vanilloid 3 (TRPV3) is a non-selective cation channel with modest permeability to calcium ions. It is involved in intracellular calcium signaling and is therefore important in processes such as thermal sensation, skin barrier formation, and wound healing. TRPV3 was initially proposed as a warm temperature sensor. It is activated by synthetic small-molecule chemicals and plantderived natural compounds such as camphor and eugenol. Schisandra chinensis (Turcz.) Baill... -
Quercetin induces apoptosis and cell cycle arrest in triple-negative breast cancer cells through modulation of Foxo3a activity

but also inhibited cell cycle progression. Moreover, quercetin increased FasL mRNA expression and p51, p21 and GADD45 signaling activities. We also observed that quercetin induced protein level, transcriptional activity and nuclear translocation of Foxo3a. Knockdown of Foxo3a caused significant reduction in the effect of quercetin on cell apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. In addition, treatment of JNK inhibitor (SP 600125) abolished quercetin-stimulated Foxo3a activity, suggesting JNK as a... -
Activation of autophagy at cerebral cortex and apoptosis at brainstem are differential responses to 835 MHz RF-EMF exposure
JuHwanKim, Da-HyeonYu, HakRimKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2017, Vol.21 No.2 5 179-188 (10 pages)
With the explosive increase in exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) emitted by mobile phones, public concerns have grown over the last few decades with regard to the potential effects of EMF exposure on the nervous system in the brain. Many researchers have suggested that RF-EMFs can effect diverse neuronal alterations in the brain, thereby affecting neuronal functions as well as behavior. Previously, we showed that long-term exposure to 835 MHz RF-EMF induces autophagy in... -
Effect of subcutaneous treatment with human umbilical cord blood-derived multipotent stem cells on peripheral neuropathic pain in rats

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2017, Vol.21 No.2 2 153-160 (8 pages)
In this study, we aim to determine the in vivo effect of human umbilical cord blood-derived multipotent stem cells (hUCB-MSCs) on neuropathic pain, using three, principal peripheral neuropathic pain models. Four weeks after hUCBMSC transplantation, we observed significant antinociceptive effect in hUCB-MSC– transplanted rats compared to that in the vehicle-treated control. Spinal cord cells positive for c-fos, CGRP, p-ERK, p-p 38, MMP-9 and MMP 2 were significantly decreased in only CCI... -
Neuroprotective effect of lithium after pilocarpine-induced status epilepticus in mice
NamgueHong, Yun-SikChoi, SeongYunKim, HeeJungKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2017, Vol.21 No.1 15 125-131 (7 pages)
Status epilepticus is the most common serious neurological condition triggered by abnormal electrical activity, leading to severe and widespread cell loss in the brain. Lithium has been one of the main drugs used for the treatment of bipolar disorder for decades, and its anticonvulsant and neuroprotective properties have been described in several neurological disease models. However, the therapeutic mechanisms underlying lithium’s actions remain poorly understood. The muscarinic receptor... -
TonEBP suppresses adipocyte differentiation via modulation of early signaling in 3T3-L1 cells

in differentiation of several cell types such as myocytes, chondrocytes, and osteocytes. In this study, we investigated the roles of TonEBP during adipocyte differentiation in 3T3-L1 cells. TonEBP mRNA and protein expression was dramatically reduced during adipocyte differentiation. Sustained expression of TonEBP using an adenovirus suppressed the formation of lipid droplets as well as the expression of FABP4, a marker of differentiated adipocytes. TonEBP also inhibited the expression of PPARγ,... -
The effects of paeoniflorin injection on soluble triggering receptor expressed on myeloid-1 (sTREM-1) levels in severe septic rats

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2016, Vol.20 No.6 2 565-571 (7 pages)
Paeoniflorin (PAE) is the most abundant compound in Xuebijing injection widely used to treat sepsis. We aimed to investigate effect of PAE on expression of soluble triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 (sTREM-1) in a rat model of sepsis. Wistar rats were divided into Normal, Model, and PAE groups (n=20 each). Endotoxin was administrated at 5 mg/ml/kg in Model and PAE rats to establish rat sepsis model. 1 h after endotoxin administration, PAE was administrated at 4 ml/kg in PAE group... -

Myometrial relaxation of mouse via expression of two‐pore domain acid sensitive (TASK) channels was studied. In our previous report, we suggested that two‐pore domain acid‐sensing K+ channels (TASK-2) might be one of the candidates for the regulation of uterine circular smooth muscles in mice. In this study, we tried to show the mechanisms of relaxation via TASK-2 channels in marine myometrium. Isometric contraction measurements and patch clamp technique were used to verify...
