환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2011, Vol.5 No.1 1 3-22 (20 pages)
Countries have implicit cultural beliefs and practices about early childhood education which they tend to undervalue and which, as a result, are endangered. The Preschool in Three Cultures Revisited study includes examples of such implicit cultural beliefs and practices in Chinese, Japanese, and US preschools. The paper argues that early childhood practitioners, policy makers, and scholars should give greater value to these cultural beliefs and practices and think of them as national treasures... -

of diversities, they are united with one goal, that is, providing quality education for the benefit of children that meet their developmental needs. The Chinese concept of “He” or Harmony is instrumental in understanding “unity in diversity”. Harmony presupposes the existence of differences. Early childhood education in the Asian Pacific regions can be different and yet harmonious. By sharing latest research and teaching experience among early childhood professionals in an international... -

outdoor environment. The findings suggest that from a pedagogical perspective, practitioners believe opportunities for risk-taking are important for all aspects of children’s development however the regulatory environment places constraints on their ability to provide sufficiently challenging experiences. The research findings support the call for more flexible enforcement of regulations to allow practitioners to use their professional knowledge to make informed decisions in risk situations. -
