Zn2+ Modulates the Responses of Rat Dorsal Horn Neuron to C-Fiber Stimulation and Excitatory Amino Acids
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.6 3 445-453 (9 pages)
WDR cells (70.6%), zinc current-dependently inhibited WDR cell responses to NMDA and in the remaining cells, produced biphasic responses; excitation followed by inhibition. Zinc augmented the responses of WDR cells to iontophoretical application of kainate. The dominant effect of Zn2 on the responses of WDR cells to C-fiber stimulation was excitatory, but inhibition, excitation-inhibition and no change of the responses to C-fiber stimulation were induced. Ca2-EDTA antagonized the... -
Modulation of Ca2+-Activated Potassium Channels by cGMP- Dependent Signal Transduction Mechanism in Cerebral Arterial Smooth Muscle Cells of the Rabbit

(8-pCPT-cGMP, 100μM), a membrane-permeable analogue of cGMP, increased the KCa channel activity in the cell-attached patch configuration, and the effect was removed upon washout of the drugs. In inside-out patches, single-channel current amplitude was not changed by SIN-1 and 8-pCPT-cGMP. Application of ATP (100μM), cGMP (100μM), ATPcGMP (100μM each), PKG (5 U/μl), ATP (100μM)PKG (5 U/μl), or cGMP (100 μM)PKG (5 U/μl) did not increase the channel activity. ATP... -
Effects of Prostaglandin F2α on Membrane Potentials and K+ Currents in Rabbit Middle Cerebral Arterial Cells
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.4 5 301-309 (9 pages)
The purpose of our investigation was to examine the effects of prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) on membrane potentials, Ca2-activated K (KCa) channels, and delayed rectifier K (KV) channels using the patch-clamp technique in single rabbit middle cerebral arterial smooth muscle cells. PGF2α significantly hyperpolarized membrane potentials and increased outward whole-cell K currents. PGF2α increased open-state probability of KCa channels without the change of the open and... -
Changes of the Level of G Protein α-subunit mRNA by Withdrawal from Morphine and Butorphanol

Morphine or butorphanol was continuously infused into cerebroventricle (i.c.v.) with the rate of 26 nmol/ μl/h for 3 days, and the withdrawal from opioid was rendered 7 hrs after the stopping of infusion. The expression of physical dependence produced by these opioids was evaluated by measuring the naloxone- precipitated withdrawal signs. The withdrawal signs produced in animals dependent on butorphanol (kappa opioid receptor agonist) were similar to those of morphine (mu opioid receptor... -
Impaired Endothelium-Dependent Relaxation is Mediated by Reduced Production of Nitric Oxide in the Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.3 11 263-270 (8 pages)
To evaluate the involvement of nitric oxide production on the endothelium-dependent relaxation in diabetes, we have measured vascular and endothelial function and nitric oxide concentration, and the expression level of endothelial nitric oxide synthase in the streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Diabetic rats were induced by the injection of streptozotocin (50 mg/kg i.v.) in the Sprague-Dawley rats. Vasoconstrictor responses to norepinephrine (NE) showed that maximal contraction to... -
Neurotensin Enhances Gastric Motility in Antral Circular Muscle Strip of Guinea-pig

Many reports suggest that neurotensin (NT) in the gastrointestinal tract may play a possible role as a neurotransmitter, a circulating hormone, or a modulator of motor activity. NT exerts various actions in the intestine; it produces contractile and relaxant responses in intestinal smooth muscle. This study was designed to investigate the effect of NT on motility of antral circular muscle strips in guinea-pig stomach. To assess the role of Ca2 influx in underlying mechanism, slow waves... -

to a series of hyperpolarizing and depolarizing current pulses. The intrinsic electrophysiological properties of the rostral NTS (rNTS) neurons were compared among the age groups. Depolarizing current pulses evoked a train of action potentials in all neurons of all age groups. The resting membrane potential and input resistance of the neurons did not show any significant differences during the postnatal 3 weeks. The time constant, however, decreased during the development. Duration of action... -
Regulation of the Contraction Induced by Emptying of Intracellular Ca2+ Stores in Cat Gastric Smooth Muscle
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages

To investigate the mechanism of smooth muscle contraction induced by emptying of intracellular Ca2 stores, we measured isometric contraction and 45Ca2 influx. CaCl2 increased Ca2 store emptying- induced contraction in dose-dependent manner, but phospholipase C activity was not affected by the Ca2 store emptying-induced contraction. The contraction was inhibited by voltage-dependent Ca2 channel antagonists dose dependently, but not by TMB-8 (intracellular... -

of patch clamp techniques under current- and voltage-clamp recording conditions in rat clonal pituitary GH3 cells. Heterogeneous pattern of SAP activities was changed into more regular mode with elongation of activity duration and afterhyperpolarization by treatment of TEA (10 mM). Under this condition, exposure of the class III antiarrhythmic agent E-4031 (5μM) to GH3 cells hardly affected SAP activities. On the other hand, the main GH3 stimulator thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) still... -
Effect of Sedative Dose of Propofol on Neuronal Damage after Transient Forebrain Ischemia in Mongolian Gerbils
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.1 10 73-79 (7 pages)
This study investigated whether propofol, an intravenous, non-barbiturate anesthetic, could reduce brain damage following global forebrain ischemia. Transient global ischemia was induced in gerbils by occlusion of bilateral carotid arteries for 3 min. Propofol (50 mg/kg) was administered intraperitoneally 30 min before, immediately after, and at 1 h, 2 h, 6 h after occlusion. Thereafter, propofol was administered twice daily for three days. Treated animals were processed in parallel with...
