The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2001, Vol.5 No.2 7 165-175 (11 pages)
TFA enhanced channel activity in a concentration-dependent fashion. The concentration of TFA for half-maximal activation and the Hill coefficient were 0.03 mM and 1.2, respectively. TFA did not affect the single channel conductance of KATP channels. Analysis of open and closed time distributions showed that TFA increased burst duration and decreased the interburst interval without changes in open and closed time distributions shorter than 5 ms. TFA diminished ATP sensitivity of KATP channels in ... -
The Alteration of Ca2+-activated K+ Channels in Coronary Arterial Smooth Muscle Cells Isolated from Isoproterenol-induced Cardiac Hypertrophy in Rabbit
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2001, Vol.5 No.2 5 147-156 (10 pages)
amplitudes and the slope conductance of coronary KCa channels were decreased without changes of the channel kinetics in isoproterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy; (2) the sensitivity of coronary KCa channels to the changes of intracellular concentration of Ca2 was reduced in isoproterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy. From above results, we suggest for the first time that the alteration of KCa channels are involved in impaired coronary reserve in isoproterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy. -
Increased Expression of Nitric Oxide Synthases in Left and Right Ventricular Hypertrophy

reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blot analysis, respectively. In 2K1C hypertensive rats, the expression of NOS mRNA was increased in parallel with its proteins in the left ventricle, but not in the right ventricle. In MCT-treated rats, the expression of NOS mRNA and proteins were proportionally increased in the right ventricle, but not in the left ventricle. These results suggest that the expression of NOS is specifically increased in association with the ventricular... -
Effect of Lidocaine·HCl on Microviscosity of Phosphatidylcholine Model Membrane
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages

In order to provide a basis for studying the molecular mechanism of pharmacological action of local anesthetics and to develop a fluorescence spectroscopic method which can detect the microviscosity of native and model membranes using intramolecular excimerization of 1,3-di(l-pyrenyl)propane (Py-3-Py), we examined the effect of lidocaine·HCl on the microviscosity of model membranes of phosphatidylcholine fraction extracted from synaptosomal plasma membrane vesicles (SPMVPC). The excimer to... -
Tyrosine Phosphorylation of Paxillin May be Involved in Vascular Smooth Muscle Contraction
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.3 5 211-217 (7 pages)
Paxillin is a regulatory component of the complex of cytoskeletal proteins that link the actin cytoskeleton to the plasma membrane. However, the role of paxillin during smooth muscle contraction is unclear. We investigated a possible role for the membrane-associated dense plaque protein paxillin in the regulation of contraction in rat aortic vascular smooth muscle. The tyrosine phosphorylation of paxillin, which was increased by norepinephrine, reached a peak level after 1 min stimulation and... -
Combined Trial of Fish Oil and Exercise Training Prevents Impairment in Insulin Action on Glucose Transport of Skeletal Muscle Induced by High-Fat Diet in Rats
JiHyunLee, JongYeonKim, YongWoonKim, SoYoungPark, WoonKiYoun, EungChanJang, Deok-IlPark, SuckJunKim, EunJungKim, SuckKangLee 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages

g menhaden oil was substituted for corn oil. Insulin sensitivity was assessed by in vitro glucose transport in the soleus muscle after diet treatment and treadmill running for 4 weeks. While the FO or EX only partially prevented insulin resistance on glucose transport and visceral obesity induced by high-fat diet, these interventions completely corrected hyperinsulinemia and hyperglycemia from the high-fat diet. The rats in the FOEX showed normalized insulin action on glucose transport,... -
Transition Metal Induces Apoptosis in MC3T3E1 Osteoblast Evidence of Free Radical Release
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages

Transition metal ions including Se2, Cd2, Hg2 or Mn2 have been thought to disturb the bone metabolism directly. However, the mechanism for the bone lesion is unknown. In this study, we demonstrated that MC3T3E1 osteoblasts, exposed to various transition metal ions; selenium, cadmium, mercury or manganese, generated massive amounts of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The released ROS were completely quenched by free radical scavengers-N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), reduced... -
Responses of Dorsal Horn Neurons to Peripheral Chemical Stimulation in the Spinal Cord of Anesthetized Cats

Although nociceptive informations are thought to be processed via different neural mechanisms depending on the types of stimuli, sufficient data have not been accumulated yet. We performed a series of experiments to elucidate the possible neural mechanisms as to chemical stimuli such as formalin, capsaicin and ATP. Single unit activity of wide dynamic range (WDR) neurons and high threshold cells were recorded extracellularly from the lumbosacral enlargement of cat spinal cord before and after... -
Hemorrhage- and Restraint-induced Analgesia in Male and Female Conscious Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages

It is well known that stress induces analgesia. This study was designed to demonstrate the stress-induced analgesia by employing hemorrhage and restraint and to investigate its mechanism and sex difference. The degree of pain was assessed by measuring the magnitude of jaw opening reflex produced by a noxious electrical stimulation in the dental pulp and by measuring the latency to withdraw the tail from a heat ray. Restraint showed an antinociceptive response. A significant increase in pain... -
Different Mechanisms for K+-Induced Relaxation in Various Arteries
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 11 Pages

[K]o can be increased under a variety of conditions including subarachnoid hemorrhage. The increase of [K]o in the range of 5∼15 mM may affect tensions of blood vessels and cause relaxation of agonist-induced precontracted vascular smooth muscle (K-induced relaxation). In this study, effect of the increase in extracellular K concentration on the agonist-induced contractions of various arteries including resistant arteries of rabbit was examined, using home-made...
