Research Notes : The RpoS Sigma Factor Negatively Regulates Production of IAA and Siderophore in a Biocontrol Rhizobacterium, Pseudomonas chlororaphis O6
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 7 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2013, 29권 3호 11 323-329 (7 pages)
The stationary-phase sigma factor, RpoS, influences the expression of factors important in survival of Pseudomonas chlororaphis O6 in the rhizosphere. A partial proteomic profile of a rpoS mutant in P. chlororaphis O6 was conducted to identify proteins under RpoS regulation. Five of 14 differentially regulated proteins had unknown roles. Changes in levels of proteins in P. chlororaphis O6 rpoS mutant were associated with iron metabolism, and protection against oxidative stress. The P.... -
Bacterial Traits Involved in Colonization of Arabidopsis thaliana Roots by Bacillus amyloliquefaciens FZB42
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 8 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2013, 29권 1호 7 59-66 (8 pages)
Colonization studies previously performed with a greenfluorescent- protein, GFP, labeled derivative of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens FZB42 revealed that the bacterium behaved different in colonizing surfaces of plant roots of different species (Fan et al., 2012). In order to extend these studies and to elucidate which genes are crucial for root colonization, we applied targeted mutant strains to Arabidopsis seedlings. The fates of root colonization in mutant strains impaired in synthesis of... -
Insight Into Genes Involved in the Production of Extracellular Chitinase in a Biocontrol Bacterium Lysobacter enzymogenes C-3
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 7 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2012, 28권 4호 13 439-445 (7 pages)
is known of the regulation of chitinase production, or its role in antimicrobial activity and biocontrol. In this study, we isolated and characterized chitinase-defective mutants by screening the transposon mutants of L. enzymogenes C-3. These mutations disrupted genes involved in diverse functions: glucose-galactose transpoter (gluP), disulfide bond formation protein B (dsbB), Clp protease (clp), and polyamine synthase (speD). The chitinase production of the SpeD mutant was restored by the... -
Identification and Characterization of Expansins from Bursaphelenchus xylophilus (Nematoda: Aphelenchoididae)
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 9 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2012, 28권 4호 8 409-417 (9 pages)
We identified two novel expansin (EXP) genes in the expressed sequence tag database of Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, designated as Bx-EXPB2 and -EXPB3. Novel Bx-EXPBs encoded 150 amino acids and their similarities in coding sequence were 70.7?84.0% to the previously reported EXPB1 of B. xylophilus. Bx-EXPB2 and Bx-EXPB3 were clustered with Bx-EXPB1 and Bm- EXPB1, respectively, forming the independent phylogeny with other nematode EXPs. All identified Bx-EXPBs contained the signal peptide and were... -
Phylogenetic Analysis of New Isolates of Cucumber mosaic virus from Iran on the Basis of Different Genomic Regions

sequences of the coat protein (CP), movement protein (MP) and 2b of the new isolates, together with that of previously reported isolates, led to the placement of the Iranian isolates in subgroups IA and IB according to CP and MP genes, but in subgroup IA according to the 2b gene. These data suggest that reassortment may have been a major event in the evolution of CMV in Iran, and that the Iranian isolates are derived from a common recent ancestor that had passed through a bottleneck event. -
Mode of Action of Streptomycin Resistance in the Citrus Canker Pathogen (Xanthomonas smithii subsp. citri) in Jeju Island

as a results of chromosomal mutation or through gene acquisition or both. Chromosomal mutations for resistances are point mutations in the rpsL gene, which alter ribosomal protein S12. Acquired resistance has occurred when an SmR plasmid carrying transposon Tn5393 with tandem strA-strB gene is transferred by conjugation. A total of 686 isolates of Xanthomonas smithii subsp. citri causal agent of citrus canker disease were collected from 26 citrus orchards in Jeju Island in 2003 and 2004 seasons.... -
Research Notes : Molecular Evidence of Recombination on Korean Isolates of Tomato yellow Leaf curl virus by Nucleotide Transversions and Transitions

and other TYLCV isolates [Thailand (AF206674), Iran (AJ132711), and Israel (X76319)]. TYLCV Jeju isolate was characterized by two recombination events (E1 and E2) caused by the presence of E1 in ORF V1 and C3, which may seem to be the mutations of the high nucleotide transversion and transition rate. Collectively, our results suggest that the occurrence of nucleotide transversions and transitions in TYLCV DNA-A might have induced novel recombination events within the TYLCV Korea isolates. -

from a silenced green fluorescent protein gene in transient expression assays, while the P19 silencing suppressor of Tomato bushy stunt virus did not. Consistent with the modes of action of HC-Pro in other systems, which have shown that HC-Pro suppresses RNA silencing by preventing the unwinding of duplex siRNAs and inhibiting siRNA methylation, these studies showed that SMV HC-Pro interfered with the activities of RNA-induced silencing complexes, but not the activities of Dicer-like enzymes in... -
RT-PCR Detection of Five Quarantine Plant RNA Viruses Belonging to Potyand Tospoviruses
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 6 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2011, 27권 3호 12 291-296 (6 pages)
yellow spot virus (IYSV) are members of the genus Tospovirus. To design RT-PCR primers, we used reported gene sequences corresponding to the capsid protein and polyprotein for ChiVMV, CDV, and TEV while using nucleocapsid protein regions for CSNV and IYSV. At least two different primer pairs were designed for each virus. Fifteen out of 16 primer pairs were successfully applied in detection of individual quarantine virus with high specificity and efficiency. Taken together, this study provides a... -
The Road to RNA Silencing is Paved with Plant-Virus Interactions
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 10 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2011, 27권 3호 1 197-206 (10 pages)
RNA silencing has had a large impact on biology in general, as well as on our understanding of plantpathogen interactions, especially interactions between plants and viruses. While most of what we know about the mechanism of RNA silencing was deduced in the last 12 years, many of the interactions between plants and viruses, as well as virus-virus interactions in plants, which we now know are manifestations of RNA silencing, were the subject of decades of work from numerous laboratories. These...
