Virtual otoscopy for evaluating the inner ear with a fluid-filled tympanic cavity in dogs
Youngkwon Cho, Jimo Jeong, Haebeom Lee, Minsu Kim, Namsoo Kim, Kichang Lee* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2012, 제 13권 제 4호 12 419-424 (6 pages)
The feasibility of virtual otoscopy (VO) imaging was evaluated in five dogs with experimentally induced otitis media, two control dogs, and two canine patients with otitis media. VO images of the tympanic cavity and ossicles were generated with commercially available software using raw computed tomography (CT) data. Eight out of 10 ears inoculated with pathogen exhibited obvious clinical signs associated with otitis externa. CT images revealed soft tissue density material occupying the tympanic... -
Improved assessment of frozen/thawed mouse spermatozoa using fluorescence microscopy

embryos or spermatozoa is a common approach for protecting these lines from being lost or to store them in a repository. A mutant line can be taken out of a breeding nucleus only if sufficient numbers of samples with an appropriate level of quality are cryopreserved. The quality of different donors within the same mouse line might be heterogeneous and the cryopreservation procedure might also be error-prone. However, only limited amounts of material are available for analysis. To improve the... -
Comparing the osteogenic potential of canine mesenchymal stem cells derived from adipose tissues, bone marrow, umbilical cord blood, and Wharton's jelly for treating bone defects
Byung-Jae Kang, Hak-Hyun Ryu, Sung Su Park, Yoshihisa Koyama, Masanori Kikuchi, Heung-Myong Woo, Wan Hee Kim, Oh-Kyeong Kweon* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 12 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2012, 제 13권 제 3호 12 299-310 (12 pages)
Alternative sources of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for replacing bone marrow (BM) have been extensively investigated in the field of bone tissue engineering. The purpose of this study was to compare the osteogenic potential of canine MSCs derived from adipose tissue (AT), BM, umbilical cord blood (UCB), and Wharton's jelly (WJ) using in vitro culture techniques and in vivo orthotopic implantation assays. After canine MSCs were isolated from various tissues, the proliferation and osteogenic... -
Assessment of glomerular filtration rate with dynamic computed tomography in normal Beagle dogs

of contrast material (iohexol, 1 mL/kg, 300 mgI/mL). Time attenuation curves were created and contrast clearance per unit volume was calculated using a Patlak plot analysis. The CT-GFR was then determined based on the conversion of contrast clearance per unit volume to contrast clearance per body weight. At the renal hilum, CT-GFR values per unit renal volume (mL/min/mL) of the right and left kidneys were 0.69 ± 0.04 and 0.57 ± 0.05, respectively. No significant differences were found... -
Efficacy of nano-hydroxyapatite prepared by an aqueous solution combustion technique in healing bone defects of goat

a scaffold for new bone growth across the defect, and the quality of healing of the bone defect was almost indistinguishable from the control group, in which the defect was more or less similar, although the newly formed bony tissue was more organized when HAp was used. Histologic methods showed complete normal ossification with development of Haversian canals and well-defined osteoblasts at the periphery in group II, whereas the control group had moderate fibro-collagenization and an adequate... -
Matricaria chamomilla CH12 decreases handling stress in Nelore calves

'control' was not. Animals in both groups were maintained unstressed for 30 days to adjust to the feeding system and pasture, and were then stressed by constraint on the 31th, 38th, 45th and 60th experimental days. Blood samples were taken on these days after animals had been immobilization in a trunk contention for 5 min. Stress was followed by analyzing serum cortisol levels. These peaked on the 45th day and then decreased, but not to baseline, on the 60th day. On the 45th day cortisol levels... -

Molecular analysis of hprt mutation in B6C3F1 mice exposed to ozone alone and combined treatment of 4-(N-methyl-N-nitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone and/or dibutyl phthalate for 32 and 52 weeks

h per day for 32- and 52-wk showed increases in the frequencies of TG rlymphocytes compared to the control groups. Additive interactions were noted from two combination groups compared to the ozone alone in both sexes of 32- and 52-wk studies. The most common specific mutation type in the hprt genes of test materials-treated male and female mice was transversion with very few transition. The results indicate that such dominant transversion may be responsible for toxicity and combined exposure to... -
Effect of probiotic containing Saccharomyces boulardii on experimental ochratoxicosis in broilers: hematobiochemical studies
S. B. Agawane, P. S. Lonkar 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 4호 12 359-367 (9 pages)
In the present investigation, the toxicopathological effects of ochratoxin A of 0.5 ppm on hematobiochemical parameters of broilers were studied with efficacy of dietary concentration of probiotic containing yeast culture Saccharomyces boulardii of 10 mg/kg of feed. One hundred twenty day old chicks were randomly divided into four groups, thirty chicks each. Groups A and C chicks were offered normal feed and that added with probiotic Saccharomyces boulardii respectively. The birds in group B... -
B6C3F1 mice exposed to ozone with 4-(N-methyl-Nnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone and/or dibutyl phthalate showed toxicities through alterations of NF-κB, AP-1, Nrf2, and osteopontin
Min Young Kim, Kyung Suk Song, Gun Ho Park, Seung Hee Chang, Hyun Woo Kim, Jin Hong Park, Hwa Jin, Kook Jong Eu, Hyun Sun Cho, G 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 2호 7 131-137 (7 pages)
Toxic effects of ozone, 4-(N-methyl-N-nitrosamino)-1-(3- pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK), and/or dibutyl phthalate (DBP) were examined through NF-kB, AP-1, Nrf2, and osteopontin (OPN) in lungs and livers of B6C3F1 mice. Electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) indicated that mice treated with combination of toxicants induced high NF-kB activities. Expression levels of p105, p65, and p50 proteins increased in all treated mice, whereas IkB activity was inhibited in NNK-, DBP-, and combination-treated...
