Type II and III Taste Bud Cells Preferentially Expressed Kainate Glutamate Receptors in Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.6 8 455-460 (6 pages)
Glutamate-induced cobalt uptake reveals that non-NMDA glutamate receptors (GluRs) are present in rat taste bud cells. Previous studies involving glutamate induced cobalt staining suggest this uptake mainly occurs via kainate type GluRs. It is not known which of the 4 types of taste bud cells express subunits of kainate GluR. Circumvallate and foliate papillae of Sprague-Dawley rats (45∼60 days old) were used to search for the mRNAs of subunits of non-NMDA GluRs using RT-PCR with specific... -
Electrophysiological Characterization of AMPA and NMDA Receptors in Rat Dorsal Striatum
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.3 11 209-214 (6 pages)
The striatum receives glutamatergic afferents from the cortex and thalamus, and these synaptic transmissions are mediated byՁ-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionate (AMPA) and N-methyl- D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors. The purpose of this study was to characterize glutamate receptors by analyzing NMDA/AMPA ratio and rectification of AMPA and NMDA excitatory postsynaptic currents (EPSCs) using a whole-cell voltage-clamp method in the dorsal striatum. Receptor antagonists were used to... -
Role of Dopamine Receptors on Electroencephalographic Changes Produced by Repetitive Apomorphine Treatments in Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.3 2 147-151 (5 pages)
Repeated psychostimulants induce electroencephalographic (EEG) changes, which reflect adaptation of the neural substrate related to dopaminergic pathways. To study the role of dopamine receptors in EEG changes, we examined the effect of apomorphine, the dopamine D1 receptor antagonist, SCH-23390, and the D2 receptor antagonist, haloperidol, on EEG in rats. For single and repeated apomorphine treatment groups, the rats received saline or apomorphine for 4 days followed by a 3-day withdrawal... -
Forskolin Enhances Synaptic Transmission in Rat Dorsal Striatum through NMDA Receptors and PKA in Different Phases
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2008, Vol.12 No.6 2 293-298 (6 pages)
EPSCs was still observed even in the presence of AP-V. When KT 5720 (5ՌM), a protein kinase A (PKA) inhibitor, was applied through the patch pipette, forskolin (10ՌM) increased corticostriatal EPSCs, but this increase was not maintained. When forskolin was applied together with AP-V and KT 5720, both the increase and maintenance of the corticostriatal EPSCs were blocked. These results suggest that forskolin activates both NMDA receptors and PKA, however, in a different manner. -
Spinal Metabotropic Glutamate Receptors (mGluRs) are Involved in the Melittin-induced Nociception in Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2008, Vol.12 No.5 4 237-244 (8 pages)
Intraplantar injection of melittin has been known to induce sustained decrease of mechanical threshold and increase of spontaneous flinchings. The present study was undertaken to investigate how the melittin-induced nociceptive responses were modulated by changes of metabotropic glutamate receptor (mGluR) activity. Changes in paw withdrawal threshold (PWT), number of flinchings and paw thickness were measured at a given time point after injection of melittin (10Ռg/paw) into the mid-plantar... -
Expression of Endothelin-1 and Its Receptors in Cisplatin-Induced Acute Renal Failure in Mice
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2008, Vol.12 No.4 4 149-154 (6 pages)
Endothelin-1 (ET-1) is unequivocally elevated in the kidney with ischemic acute renal failure (ARF), whereas ET receptors (ETAR and ETBR) are variably expressed. Although renal functional and structural changes are similar between ischemic and nephrotoxic ARF, there are few reports on the alteration in the ET system in nephrotoxic ARF. This study was, therefore, undertaken to investigate changes in renal expression of ET-1 and its receptors in nephrotoxic ARF induced by cisplatin. Mice were... -
Roles of Dopaminergic D1 and D2 Receptors in Catecholamine Release from the Rat Adrenal Medulla

of cholinergic (both nicotinic and muscarinic) receptors and the membrane depolarization from the isolated perfused rat adrenal gland without affecting the basal release, respectively, but both R(+)-SCH23390 and S(-)-raclopride facilitate the CA release evoked by them. It seems likely that the inhibitory effects of SKF81297 and R-(-)-TNPA are mediated by the activation of D1-like and D2-like dopaminergic receptors located on the rat adrenomedullary chromaffin cells, respectively, whereas the... -
Multiple 5-Hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) Receptors Are Involved in the Melittin-induced Nociceptive Responses in Rat I. Role of Peripheral 5-HT Receptor

of peripheral 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) receptors in the melittin-induced nociceptive responses. Changes in mechanical threshold, flinching behaviors and paw thickness were measured in rat intraplantarly injected with melittin (40μg/paw) alone or treated together with melittin and 5-HT receptor antagonists. WAY-100635 (100μg & 200μg/paw), isamoltane hemifumarate (100μg & 200μg/paw), methysergide maleate (60μg, 120μg & 200μg/paw) and ICS-205,930 (100μg & 200μg/paw) were... -
Effects of Nitric Oxide on Inhibitory Receptors of Rod Bipolar Cells of Rat Retina
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.6 6 347-352 (6 pages)
The effects of nitric oxide (NO) on inhibitory neurotransmitter receptors and some types of inhibitory receptors in dissociated rod bipolar cell (RBC) were investigated. In the whole cell voltage-clamping mode, the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) activated current showed both sustained and transient components. GABA activated transient current was fully blocked by bicuculine, a GABAA receptor antagonist. The cis-4-aminocrotonic acid (CACA), a GABAC receptor agonist, evoked the sustained current... -
N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) and Non-NMDA Receptors are Involved in the Production and Maintenance of Nociceptive Responses by Intraplantar Injection of Bee Venom and Melittin in the Rat
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.3 8 179-185 (7 pages)
(WBV) and its major component, melittin, have been reported to induce long-lasting spontaneous flinchings and hyperalgesia. The current study was designed to elucidate the peripheral and spinal mechanisms of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) and non-NMDA receptors by which intraplantar (i.pl.) injection of WBV and melittin induced nociceptive responses. Changes in mechanical threshold and flinching behaviors were measured after the injection of WBV (0.04 mg or 0.1 mg/paw) and melittin (0.02 mg or 0.05...
