KOH-activated graphite nanofibers as CO2 adsorbents
Hui Yuan, Long-Yue Meng, Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.19 12 99-103 (5 pages)
Porous carbons have attracted much attention for their novel application in gas storage. In this study, porous graphite nano-fiber (PGNFs)-based graphite nano fibers (GNFs) were prepared by KOH activation to act as adsorbents. The GNFs were activated with KOH by changing the GNF/KOH weight ratio from 0 through 5 at 900°C. The effects of the GNF/ KOH weight ratios on the pore structures were also addressed with scanning electron microscope and N2 adsorption/desorption measurements. We found that... -
Yield enhancement of matrix precursor in short carbon fiber reinforced randomly oriented carbon/carbon composite
Thakur Sudesh Kumar Raunija, Sharad Chandra Sharma, Anil Verma 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 9 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.19 7 57-65 (9 pages)
Isroaniso matrix precursor synthesized from commercially available petroleum pitch was stabilized in air. The influence of oxygen mass gain during stabilization on the yield of matrix precursor was studied. Additionally, the influence of pressure on the yield of the stabilized matrix precursor in a real system was studied. The fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), yield, yield rate, and yield impact were used to check the effect of stabilization and... -
Carbon rich fly ash and their nanostructures
Numan Salah, Sami S. Habib, Zishan H. Khan, Ahmed Alshahrie, Adnan Memic, Attieh A. Al-ghamdi 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 9 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.19 3 23-31 (9 pages)
Carbon rich fly ash was recently reported to have compositions that are ideal for use as a precursor and catalyst for carbon nanotube growth. This fly ash powder is mostly composed of pure carbon, predominantly present as sp2. In this work, the effect of sonication time on the morphology and structural properties of carbon rich fly ash particles is reported. The obtained results show that ultrasound treatment is an effective tool for producing ultrafine particles/fragments with higher porosity,... -
Cu²? ion reduction in wastewater over RDF-derived char
Hyung Won Lee, Rae-su Park, Sung Hoon Park, Sang-Chul Jung, Jong-Ki Jeon, Sang Chai Kim, Jin Do Chung, Won Geun Choi, Young-Kwon Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 7 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.18 8 49-55 (7 pages)
Refuse-derived fuel (RDF) produced using municipal solid waste was pyrolyzed to produce RDF char. For the first time, the RDF char was used to remove aqueous copper, a representative heavy metal water pollutant. Activation of the RDF char using steam and KOH treatments was performed to change the specific surface area, pore volume, and the metal cation quantity of the char. N2 sorption, Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometer (ICP-AES), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy... -
A review: role of interfacial adhesion between carbon blacks and elastomeric materials
Min-Joo Kang, Young-Jung Heo, Fan-Long Jin, Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 10 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.18 1 1-10 (10 pages)
Carbon blacks (CBs) have been widely used as reinforcing materials in advanced rubber composites. The mechanical properties of CB-reinforced rubber composites are mostly controlled by the extent of interfacial adhesion between the CBs and the rubber. Surface treatments are generally performed on CBs to introduce chemical functional groups on its surface. In this study, we review the effects of various surface treatment methods for CBs. In addition, the preparation and properties of CB-reinforced... -
Stabilization of pitch-based carbon fibers accompanying electron beam irradiation and their mechanical properties
Mi-Seon Park, Yoonyoung Ko, Min-Jung Jung, Young-Seak Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 6 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.2 8 121-126 (6 pages)
Carbon fibers are prepared by stabilizing pitch fibers accompanying electron beam (E-beam) irradiation. The carbon fibers pretreated by E-beam irradiation achieve a higher stabilization index than the carbon fibers that are only heat-stabilized. In addition, the carbon fibers subjected to E-beam irradiation in the stabilization step exhibit a comparable tensile strength to that of general purpose carbon fibers. The carbon fibers pretreated with an absorbed dose of 3000 kGy have a tensile... -
Overlook of carbonaceous adsorbents and processing methods for elemental mercury removal
Kyong-Min Bae, Byung-Joo Kim and Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 9 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2014, Vol.15 No.4 2 238-246 (9 pages)
People have been concerned about mercury emissions for decades because of the extreme toxicity, persistence, and bioaccumulation of methyl Hg transformed from emitted Hg. This paper presents an overview of research related to mercury control technology and identifies areas requiring additional research and development. It critically reviews measured mercury emissions progress in the development of promising control technologies. This review provides useful information to scientists and engineers... -
Superhydrophobic carbon-based materials: a review of synthesis, structure, and applications
Long-Yue Meng, Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 16 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2014, Vol.15 No.2 5 89-104 (16 pages)
Materials with appropriate surface roughness and low surface energy can form superhydrophobic surfaces, displaying water contact angles greater than 150°. Superhydrophobic carbon-based materials are particularly interesting due to their exceptional physicochemical properties. This review discusses the various techniques used to produce superhydrophobic carbon-based materials such as carbon fibers, carbon nanotubes, graphene, amorphous carbons, etc. Recent advances in emerging fields such as...
