Role of mucosal mast cells in visceral hypersensitivity in a rat model of irritable bowel syndrome
Jun-Ho La, Tae-Wan Kim, Tae-Sik Sung, Hyun-Ju Kim, Jeom-Yong Kim, Il-Suk Yang 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 4호 6 319-324 (6 pages)
The involvement of mucosal mast cells (MMC) in the pathophysiology of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is still controversial. We aimed to re-evaluate the role of MMC in visceral hypersensitivity associated with IBS using a rat IBS model that develops the IBS symptom after a subsidence of acetic acid-induced colitis. No significant difference in the number of MMC was observed between normal rat colon and IBS rat colon. (61.7 ±2.9/mm 2 in normal vs. 88.7 ±13.3/mm 2 in IBS, p > 0.29). However, the... -
Electroacupuncture ameliorates experimental colitis induced by acetic acid in rat
Jeoung-Woo Kang, Tae-Wan Kim, Jun-Ho La, Tae-Sik Sung, Hyun-Ju Kim, Young-Bae Kwon, Jeum-Yong Kim, Il-Suk Yang 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages

The effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on experimental colitis was investigated in Sprague-Dawley rats. Colitis was induced by intracolonic instillation of 4% acetic acid. EA (2 Hz, 0.05 ms, 2 V for 20 min) was applied to bilateral Hoku (LI-4) and Zusanli (ST-36) on 12 hrs and 36 hrs after induction of colitis. EA-treatment significantly reduced the macroscopic damage and the myeloperoxidase activity of colonic samples at 3 days post-induction of colitis. Colitic colon showed a decreased in vitro... -
Changes of gastrointestinal argyrophil endocrine cells in the osteoporotic SD rats induced by ovariectomy

of argyrophil cells were detected in OVX compared to those of Sham except for the pylorus, jejunum and cecum. In pylorus and jejunum, argyrophil cells in OVX dramatically decreased compared to those of Sham but significances were not recorded. In addition, argyrophil cells in cecum of OVX showed similar frequency compared to that of Sham. The endocrine cells are the anatomical units responsible for the production of gut hormones that regulate gut motility and digestion including absorption, and... -
Gastrointestinal impaction by Parascaris equorum in a Thoroughbred foal in Jeju, Korea
Seung-ho Ryu, Jong-duck Jang, Ung-bok Bak, Chang-woo Lee, Hee-jeong Youn, Yonghoon Lyon Lee 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2004, 제 5권 제 2호 14 181-182 (2 pages)
A weanling Thoroughbred foal was admitted to Equine Hospital, Korea Racing Association with signs of colic. On admission the foal was sweating profusely, appeared anxious and exhibiting signs suggestive of abdominal pain. Clinical examination revealed: tachycardia (90 beats/min), tachypnea (50 breaths/min) and congested and slightly cyanotic mucous membranes. No intestinal sounds were auscultated in all 4 abdominal quadrants. Rectal palpation identified concurrent cecum and large colon... -
An immunohistochemical study of the gastrointestinal endocrine cells in the ddY mice
Sae-kwang Ku, Hyeung-sik Lee, Jae-hyun Lee 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages

in the pylorus, duodenum and jejunum with numerous frequencies in the pylorus. Somatostatin-IR cells were detected throughout whole GI tract except for the cecum and rectum and they showed more numerous frequencies in the stomach regions. In addition, glucagon-IR cells were restricted to the fundus, duodenum and jejunum with rare frequencies, and HPP-IR cells were restricted to the rectum only with rare frequency. In conclusion, some strain-dependent unique distributional patterns of... -
Regional Distribution and Relative Frequency of Gastrointestinal Endocrine Cells in Large Intestines of C57BL/6 Mice
Tae-Su Ham 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2002, 제 3권 제 3호 13 233-238 (6 pages)
The regional distributions and relative frequencies of some gastrointestinal endocrine cells in the three portions (cecum, colon and rectum) of the large intestinal tract of C57BL/6 mice were examined with immunohistochemical method using 7 types of specific antisera against chromogranin A (CGA), serotonin, somatostatin, human pancreatic polypeptide (HPP), glucagon, gastrin and cholecyctokinin (CCK)-8. In this study, all 3 types of immunoreactive (IR) cells were identified. Most of these IR... -
Application of pulsed Doppler ultrasound for the evaluation of small intestinal motility in dogs
Yong-joo An, Heechun Lee, Dongwoo Chang, Youngwon Lee, Jai-ki Sung, Mincheol Choi, Junghee Yoon 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2001, 제 2권 제 1호 12 71-74 (4 pages)
The purpose of this study was to verify whether small intestinal peristalsis could be observed and quantitatively assessed using pulsed-Doppler ultrasound. Pulsed-Doppler ultrasound was used to evaluate small intestinal peristalsis after a meal in ten normal dogs and ten sedated dogs. The small intestinal peristalses were measured 0, 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, and 24 hours after a 24-hour fast and after feeding. The number of small intestinal peristalsis were 0.133/min, 0.100/min, 0.033/min, 0.167/min,... -
Using pig biliary system, in vivo propagation of Enterocytozoon bieneusi, an AIDS-related zoonotic pathogen
John Hwa Lee 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 7 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2000, 제 1권 제 2호 7 105-111 (7 pages)
A microsporidian parasite Enterocytozoon bieneusi is the most common microorganism recognized in AIDS patients, and slow scientific progress is attributed to our inability to propagate the parasite. We report upon the development of a system of propagation using the pig biliary system. The parasite spores were continuously detected in the bile samples post onset of spore shedding in the gall bladder, which suggests that this organism maintain persistent infection in the biliary system and that... -
