was 2 ng/mL for recombinant p27 and 12.5 × 10 IU/mL for FeLV. When evaluating 252 cat sera samples, the kit was found to have a kappa value of 0.88 compared to polymerase chain reaction (PCR), indicating a significant correlation between data from the rapid diagnostic test and PCR. Sensitivity and specificity of the kit were 95.2% (20/21) and 98.5% (257/261), respectively. Our results demonstrated that the rapid diagnostic test would be a suitable diagnostic tool for the rapid detection of FeLV... -
Comparison of four diagnostic methods for detecting rabies viruses circulating in Korea

the 110 animal brain samples tested, 20 (18.2%) were positive for rabies according to the FAT. Compared to the FAT, the sensitivities of VI, RT-PCR, and RIDA were 100, 100, and 95%, respectively. The specificities of VI, RT-PCR and RIDA were found to be 100, 100, and 98.9%, respectively. Rabies viruses circulating in Korea were isolated and propagated in murine neuroblastoma (NG108-15) cells with titers ranging from 10 to 10 TCID50/mL. Although the RIDA findings did not completely coincide with... -

Blood, saliva, and nail samples were collected from 54 dogs and 151 cats and analyzed for the presence of Bartonella henselae with a novel nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. Bartonella (B.) henselae was detected in feral cat blood (41.8%), saliva (44.1%), and nail (42.7%) samples. B. henselae was also detected in pet cat blood (33.3%), saliva (43.5%), and nail (29.5%) samples and in pet dog blood (16.6%), saliva (18.5%), and nail (29.6%) samples. Nine samples were infected with B.... -

from an animal shelter. Saliva and feces were evaluated by Helicobacter genus-specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Genus-specific PCR positive samples were further evaluated for H. felis and H. pylori using specific primer pairs. Thirty-six of 64 (56.3%) samples from domestic cats and 92 of 101 (91.1%) samples from feral cats were PCR positive; the positive rate of feces samples was higher than that of saliva samples in both groups. H. felis and H. pylori species-specific PCR was uniformly... -
Circadian variations in salivary chromogranin a concentrations during a 24-hour period in dogs
Kazutaka Kanai, Mariko Hino, Yasutomo Hori, Ruriko Nakao, Fumio Hoshi, Naoyuki Itoh, Seiichi Higuchi* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2008, 제 9권 제 4호 13 421-424 (4 pages)
The purpose of this study was to determine if salivary chromogranin a secretion in dogs exhibits a circadian rhythm. Saliva sampling was performed during three different sessions occurring in three nonconsecutive 24-h periods. Sixteen healthy adult beagle dogs (8 males and 8 females) were moved to a sampling room and housed individually in cages. Saliva samples were obtained every 4 h from 12:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. the following day. In the interest of habituation, saliva was obtained hourly from... -
Absence of vertical transmission of Helicobacter pylori in an experimental murine model
Jin-Uk Lee, Kwoni Jung, Okjin Kim 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2006, 제 7권 제 3호 3 225-228 (4 pages)
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is acquired mainly in early childhood but the precise transmission routes are unclear. This study examined the maternal H. pylori infection status in order to determine the potential of perinatal transmission. These issues were investigated using an experimental murine model, the Mongolian gerbil, which has been reported to be the most suitable laboratory animal model for studying H. pylori. Pregnant Mongolian gerbils, infected experimentally with H.... -
Prevalence and Clinical Characterization of Gastric Helicobacter Species Infection of Dogs and Cats in Korea

This study was carried out to evaluate the prevalence and clinical characterizations of gastric Helicobacter spp. infection of dogs and cats in Korea. The prevalence of Helicobacter spp. infection of dogs and cats determined by urease test was 78.4% and 64%, respectively, although Helicobacter genus-specific PCR assay showed that it was 82.3% and 84%. Urease mapping results based on urease test showed that total positive rate of tested tissues from clinically abnormal dogs was significantly... -
Additive Estrogenic Activities of the Binary Mixtures of Four Estrogenic Chemicals in Recombinant Yeast Expressing Human Estrogen Receptor
Yong Soon Lee, Kyung Sun Kang, Sung Dae Cho 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2002, 제 3권 제 1호 1 1-5 (5 pages)
To evaluate the estrogenic activities of several chemicals such as 17beta-estradiol (E2), rho-nonylphenol, bisphenol A, butylparaben, and combinations of these chemicals, we used recombinant yeasts containing the human estrogen receptor [Saccharomyces cerevisiae ER + LYS 8127]. We evaluated E2 was most active in the recombinant yeast assay, followed by rho-nonylphenol, bisphenol A, butylparaben. The combinations of some concentrations of 17-estradiol as a strong estrogen and bisphenol A or... -

and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) and body secretes of healthy dogs. Of the 51 blood samples from dogs clinically suspected of CD, 45 samples were revealed as positive by one-step RT-PCR combined with nested PCR. However, only 15 samples were identified as positive with a single one step RT-PCR. Therefore approximately 60% increase in the efficiency of the diagnosis was observed by the combined method. These results suggested that one step RT-PCR combined with nested PCR could be a...
