Antiapoptotic Effect of Paricalcitol in Gentamicin-induced Kidney Injury
SangHeonSuh, KoEunLee, JeongWooPark, InJinKim, OkKim, ChangSeongKim, JoonSeokChoi, EunHuiBae, SeongKwonMa, JongUnLee, SooWanKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages

While the anti-apoptotic effect of paricalcitol has been demonstrated in various animal models, it is not yet clear whether paricalcitol attenuates the apoptosis in gentamicin (GM)-induced kidney injury. We investigated the effect of paricalcitol on apoptotic pathways in rat kidneys damaged by GM. Rats were randomly divided into three groups: 1) Control group (n=8), where only vehicle was delivered, 2) GM group (n=10), where rats were treated with GM (150 mg/kg/day) for 7 days, 3) PARI group... -
Chronic Administration of Baicalein Decreases Depression-Like Behavior Induced by Repeated Restraint Stress in Rats
BombiLee, BongjunSur, JinheePark, Sung-HunKim, SunohKwon, MijungYeom, InsopShim, HyejungLee, Dae-hyunHahm 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 11 Pages

Baicalein (BA), a plant-derived active flavonoid present in the root of Scutellaria baicalensis, has been widely used for the treatment of stress-related neuropsychiatric disorders including depression. Previous studies have demonstrated that repeated restraint stress disrupts the activity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, resulting in depression. The behavioral and neurochemical basis of the BA effect on depression remain unclear. The present study used the forced swimming test... -
Regulation of Ca2+ Signaling in Pulmonary Hypertension
AmyL.Firth, JunYeonWon, WonSunPark 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2013, Vol.17 No.1 1 1-8 (8 pages)
Understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the development and progression of pulmonary hypertension (PH) remains imperative if we are to successfully improve the quality of life and life span of patients with the disease. A whole plethora of mechanisms are associated with the development and progression of PH. Such complexity makes it difficult to isolate one particular pathway to target clinically. Changes in intracellular free calcium concentration, the most common... -
Multiple Signaling Molecules are Involved in Expression of CCL2 and IL-1b in Response to FSL-1, a Toll-Like Receptor 6 Agonist, in Macrophages
KeunsooWon, Sun-MiKim, Sae-ALee, Byung-YongRhim, Seong-KugEo, KoanhoiKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2012, Vol.16 No.6 11 447-453 (7 pages)
TLR6 forms a heterodimer with TLR2 and TLR4. While proinflammatory roles of TLR2 and TLR4 are well documented, the role of TLR6 in inflammation is poorly understood. In order to understand mechanisms of action of TLR6 in inflammatory responses, we investigated the effects of FSL-1, the TLR6 ligand, on expression of chemokine CCL2 and cytokine IL-1Ղ and determined cellular factors involved in FSL-1-mediated expression of CCL2 and IL-1Ղ in mononuclear cells. Exposure of human monocytic... -
Cilostazol Decreases Ethanol-Mediated TNFalpha Expression in RAW264.7 Murine Macrophage and in Liver from Binge Drinking Mice

(6 g/kg) mice model. TNFՁ mRNA and protein decreased in liver from ethanol gavaged mice compared to that from control mice. Pretreatment of mice with cilostazol or pentoxifylline further reduced the TNFՁ production in liver. These results demonstrated that cilostazol effectively decrease the ethanol-mediated TNFՁ production both in murine macrophage and in liver from binge drinking mice and AMPK may be responsible for the inhibition of TNFՁ production by cilostazol. -
Ghrelin Protects Spinal Cord Motoneurons Against Chronic Glutamate Excitotoxicity by Inhibiting Microglial Activation

a model of excitotoxic motoneuron degeneration, to determine if ghrelin prevents microglial activation. Exposure of OSCCs to THA for 3 weeks produced typical motoneuron death, and treatment of ghrelin significantly attenuated THA-induced motoneuron loss, as previously reported. Ghrelin prevented THA-induced microglial activation in the spinal cord and the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor-Ձ and interleukin-1Ղ. Our data indicate that ghrelin may act as a... -
Regulator of Calcineurin 1 Isoform 4 (RCAN1.4) Is Overexpressed in the Glomeruli of Diabetic Mice

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2011, Vol.15 No.5 8 299-306 (8 pages)
Calcineurin (CaN) is activated in diabetes and plays a role in glomerular hypertrophy and extracellular matrix (ECM) accumulation. Here, kidneys from diabetic model mice were investigated for the expression of the regulator of CaN 1 (RCAN1) isoform 4 (RCAN1.4) which had been shown to be transcriptionally upregulated by CaN activation. We found the increased immunoreactivity for RCAN1 in the glomerular cells of db/db mice and streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice. In concordance, the expression of... -
Thrombin-induced Migration and Matrix Metalloproteinase-9 Expression Are Regulated by MAPK and PI3K Pathways in C6 Glioma Cells

Glioblastoma multiforme is one of the most common and aggressive tumors in central nervous system. It often possesses characteristic necrotic lesions with hemorrhages, which increase the chances of exposure to thrombin. Thrombin has been known as a regulator of MMP-9 expression and cancer cell migration. However, the effects of thrombin on glioma cells have not been clearly understood. In the present study, influences of thrombin on glioma cell migration were examined using Boyden chamber... -
Involvement of ROS in Curcumin-induced Autophagic Cell Death

Many anticancer agents as well as ionizing radiation have been shown to induce autophagy which is originally described as a protein recycling process and recently reported to play a crucial role in various disorders. In HCT116 human colon cancer cells, we found that curcumin, a polyphenolic phytochemical extracted from the plant Curcuma longa, markedly induced the conversion of microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 (LC3)-I to LC3-II and degradation of sequestome-1 (SQSTM1) which is a... -
